Phillip Hoang
Phillip Hoang, 35, of Garden City, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born May 4, 1967, in Vietnam, the son of Lan Hoang and Huong Le.
A Garden City resident since May 25, 1994, he worked as a computer and scale technician for IBP. He attended Faith Baptist Church in Garden City, and enjoyed fixing television sets and VCR's and programming computers.
He is survived by his wife, Hoanh Ho, and a son, Khanh Ho, both of Vietnam; his parents, Garden City; three brothers, Kenny Hoang, Dalton, Ga., James Hoang, Garden City, and Peter Hoang, Wichita; and two sisters, Van Hoang, Vietnam, and Shayla Hoang, Garden City.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Southern Baptist Church, Garden City, with the Revs. Thomas Tran and Patrick Nath assisting. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.
Faye Thompson Hall
SATANTA - Faye I. Thompson Hall, 89, of Hugoton and formerly of Satanta, died today, May 10, 2002, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton.
She was born July 25, 1912, at Chase, the daughter of Dayton George and Sarah I. Adams Fortna. When she was young, the family moved to Satanta, a community they relocated to a couple of times. While in Satanta, her parents ran various businesses on the main street, including a bakery, restaurant and restaurant/hotel. She graduated from Satanta Grade School and began high school in Satanta.
In January 1929, she married Marvin E. "Ted" Thompson, who was engaged in the gas station business, including bulk gas delivery, and in farming. He preceded her in death as did her parents; two brothers, George and David Fortna; a sister, Dorothy Linville; and a son, Joe Dean Thompson. She was later married to Robert Hall for six years before they divorced.
A homemaker, Mrs. Hall enjoyed her family activities, visiting with friends and relatives, gardening and her flowers. She was a member of the Christian Church of Chase. In Satanta, she attended the United Methodist Church and had taught Sunday School classes there when her son was young. She was a longtime member of the Santee Club, served for a brief time on the Dudley Township Library Board, and in her later years, she enjoyed the help and fellowship of the Happy Agers in Satanta.
She is survived by a son, Robert L. Thompson, Denver; a daughter, Doris Ann Lewis, Caldwell, Texas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta.

Carrie Goff
Funeral for Carrie Goff, 90, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Martin Gauby officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Goff died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 26, 1911, in Anderson County, the daughter of Edward and Atena Babcock Hasting.
A Garden City resident since 1954, moving from Kincaid, she was a homemaker. She enjoyed country and western music, especially Alan Jackson and Elvis Presley, and also enjoyed craft work and watching professional wrestling.
On Feb. 14, 1931, she married Albert Goff. He died in February 1971. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Becky Bunting; two brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Albert Goff Jr., Fort Worth, Texas, and Norman Goff, Hutchinson; nine daughters, Betty Jackson, Nellie Goff and Beverly Goff, all of Garden City, Rosie Seeger, Hutchinson, Dora Newby, Chautauqua, Edna Goff, Lawrence, Maudie Seeger, Lakin, Dotty Schrimp and Barbara Goff, both of South Hutchinson; 30 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
M. Elaine Oberheim
LEOTI - M. Elaine Oberheim, 66, of Leoti, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born March 17, 1936, at Scott City, the daughter of Louie and Eva Crouch Baum. She graduated from Wichita County High School in Leoti in 1954.
A homemaker, she had been a lifetime resident of Leoti and was a member of Parks Presbyterian Church in rural Wichita County. She provided child care for many years and, until her recent illness, she could be found visiting with some of those now grown-up children. She especially enjoyed being with her family and her grandchildren.
On March 18, 1956, she married Donald L. Oberheim at Leoti. He survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Tawna B. Denton, Garden City, and Sheri Loy, Leoti; two sisters, La Verne Kiefer, Topeka, and Faye Krenzel, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Paul McNall officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.

Elsie Mae Koehn
COPELAND - Elsie Mae Koehn, 77, a former Copeland resident, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where she had been a resident since March 16, 1998.
She was born May 16, 1924, at Copeland, the daughter of Lincoln and Elda (Unruh) Unruh.
A lifetime resident of Copeland, she was a homemaker and belonged to Salem Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Copeland.
On Aug. 25, 1942, she married Leslie Koehn at Copeland. He died Dec. 30, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Norma Koehn; and a brother, Ezra Unruh.
Survivors include 10 sons, LaVern, Calvin, Perry, Max and Ricki Koehn, all of Copeland, Earl Koehn, Brooksville, Miss., Dale Koehn, Montezuma, Harley Koehn, Detroit, Texas, Oran Koehn, Hartley, Texas, and Kim Koehn, Liberal; two daughters, Sharon Koehn, Garden City, and Illa Wedel, Galva; eight brothers, Marvin Unruh, Quinter, Leslie and Arnold Unruh, both of Copeland, Orlan Unruh, Dodge City, Norman Unruh, Macon, Miss., Charles Unruh, Ulysses, Delbert Unruh, Scio, Ore., and Gary Unruh, Hartley; seven sisters, Irene Koehn, Galva, Lorene Nichols, Ladean Nightengale and Berniece Koehn, all of Copeland, Celesta Koehn and Geneva Nightengale, both of Brooksville, and Nora Friesen, Aberdeen, Miss.; 27 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland. James Koehn, Sam Unruh Jr. and Verle Yost, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Cemetery, Copeland.

Carrie M. Armbruster
Prayer service for Carrie Marie Armbruster, 87, of Ellis, will be 7 tonight at Wasinger Funeral Chapel, Ellis. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Ellis, with the Rev. Randy Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Armbruster died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Ellis Good Samaritan Center.
She was born June 29, 1914, in rural Trego County, the daughter of Jacob and Katherina Kerth Armbruster. She attended Pleasant Ridge School in Trego County, was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church.
On Aug. 1, 1937, she married Henry E. Armbruster at Ellis. They lived on a farm in northwest Ellis County until moving into Ellis in 1973. He died Oct. 24, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ernest; a sister, Edna Weber; a half brother, Chris; two half sisters, Jennie Claycamp and Barbara Kneiling; and a stepgreat-granddaughter.
Mrs. Armbruster was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 26 years and was in the ladies' organization. She was also interested in young people having served as a sewing leader in 4-H and babysitting after moving to town.
She is survived by three sons, Larry and Darrell, both of Ellis, and Jerry, Garden City; a brother, Fritz Armbruster, Ellis; four sisters, Eva Williams, WaKeeney, Martha Mai, Wichita, Viola Mopen, Genesee, Idaho; and Lorreta Wilson, Mankato; six grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours are until 8:30 tonight at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church or the Ellis Good Samaritan Center, both in care of the funeral chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637.
Philip S. Bolinger
HUGOTON - Philip S. Bolinger, 88, of Hugoton, died today, May 9, 2002, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
He was born March 6, 1914, in Stevens County, the son of Emmett and Martha Ann Netherly.
A lifetime resident, he worked for Panhandle Eastern, Hugoton, retiring after 32 1/2 years, and was a member of the VFW in Hugoton. He enjoyed walking and visiting with his many friends and also enjoyed going to the Kentucky Derby.
Mr. Bolinger served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Oct. 14, 1944, he married Belle Roulette at Ulysses. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Daryl Bolinger, Olpe; a daughter, Linda Banker, Hugoton; a brother, Amos Bolinger, Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Marion Condren, Hugoton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dale, Harry and Doug Bolinger; two sisters, Elaine Bolinger and Juanita Brough; and a grandson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Vets Group.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.
Marie Louise Dewey
Marie Louise Dewey, 82, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
She was born June 22, 1919, at New Orleans, the daughter of Paul David and Marie Louise Stoll Bellocq.
A Garden City resident since 1945, moving from Waco, Texas, she had been an executive secretary for many years with Production Credit Association of Garden City.
Mrs. Dewey was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Baker-Fisher Circle, P.E.O. Chapter X and the Salmagundi Club, all at Garden City.
On June 28, 1942, she married Alvin Dewey Jr. at New Orleans. He died Nov. 6, 1987, at Garden City. She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Alvin Dewey III, Yachats, Ore., and Paul Dewey, Bend, Ore.; a sister, Theda Heckman, Salem, Ore.; two cousins; two nieces, Joslyn Dewey, Garden City, and Margaret Redetzke, Cimarron; and a sister-in-law, Doris Carter, Syracuse.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
