Cledith N. Crist
FRIEND - Cledith N. Crist, 79, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
She was born March 9, 1922, in Haskell County, the daughter of Elmer and Rowena (Rutledge) Barlow. She graduated from Holcomb High School and attended Garden City Community College.
A resident of Finney County since 1930, moving from Haskell County, she was a homemaker. She belonged to Prairie View Church of the Brethren at Friend, and was a Sunday School teacher and church board member. She also belonged to Friend School PTA, was a 4-H member and leader for Friend Flyers and was a charter member of the HGL Club of Scott County.
On March 14, 1943, she married Raymond Crist in northwest Finney County. He survives. She also is survived by three daughters, Donita Billings, Holcomb, Marie Crist-Fulk, Denver, and Judi Vulgamore, Scott City; a son, Skip Crist, Holcomb; four sisters, Edith McDaniel, Holcomb, Thelma O'Dell of Marion, Leona McDaniel, Lamar, Colo., and Donna Jean Miller, Eads, Colo.; two brothers, Frank Barlow, Lamar, and Donald Barlow, Denver; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Clyde, Merle, Gerald and Lee Roy; and a sister, Beulah Barlow.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Prairie View Church of the Brethren, Friend, with the Rev. Martin Gauby officiating. Burial will be in Prairie View Church Cemetery, Friend.
Visitation hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Alta Stormont
DIGHTON - Funeral for Alta Stormont, 49, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Revs. Mike Grogan and Kerry Grogan officiating.
Mrs. Stormont died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.
She was born March 18, 1952, at Russell, the daughter of Lawrence Edward and Eleanor D. (Weigel) Wenger. She graduated from high school at Russell and graduated from the nursing program at Garden City Community College in 1990.
A Dighton resident since 1973, she worked as a registered nurse at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City and the Ness County Hospital in Ness City.
Mrs. Stormont was a member of First Christian Church of Dighton and enjoyed reading, crocheting, fishing and being around her grandchildren.
On Dec. 8, 1973, she married Edwin D. Stormont at Ellsworth. He survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Nicci Rowe, Dighton; a stepdaughter, Terri Bernstein, Gilbert, Ariz.; two stepsons, Alan Stormont, Kansas City, Mo., and Daryn Stormont, Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Ron Wenger, Westminister, Colo., and Don Wenger, Clarksville, Tenn.; a sister, Ella Strode, Ellsworth; a half brother, Dee Wenger, Westfall; a half sister, Delinda Hernandez, Ulysses; a stepbrother, Wayne Butler, Florence, Colo.; a stepsister, Patty Gillen, Ulysses; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.
Connie Duquette
Funeral Mass for Connie Duquette, 67, a former elementary school teacher in the Garden City public school system, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Las Vegas, Nev., with burial at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City, Nev. A memorial service is planned for March 9 at St. Sylvesters Church in Warren, Mich.
Mrs. Duquette died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at her home in Las Vegas.
She was born Feb. 5, 1935, at Detroit, the 11th child of Stanley and Stella Rembelski. She graduated from the Felician Academy in Detroit and earned a bachelor's degree from Madonna College in Livonia, Mich., and a master's degree from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich.
She taught in Garden City from 1977 until moving to Las Vegas in 1990. In addition to teaching here, she had taught in Catholic and public schools in Michigan, Ohio and Nevada. She was a substitute teacher in the Las Vegas public school system after retiring from full-time teaching in June 2001.
She is remembered as a dedicated teacher and an outgoing, friendly person who enjoyed traveling, making ceramics and her pet dogs.
Survivors include her husband, Charles "Duke" Duquette; her siblings, Arthur Rembelski, Josephine Bologna, Dolores Jiovani, Mike Rembelski and Joan Bieda; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Roman, Alexander, Chester and the Rev. Benedict Rembelski; and two sisters, Lucille Yukon and Kay O'Brien.
Rienhold Henry Hamann
Funeral for Rienhold Henry Hamann, 81, of Perry, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Perry, with the Rev. Walter J. Wehmeir officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Hamann died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
He was born April 8, 1920, at Perry, the son of Heinrich and Karoline (Karcher) Hamann.
Mr. Hamann was a veteran of the U.S. Army with the rank of technical sergeant. He served during wartime with European, North Africa and Middle Eastern campaigns and had earned the Bronze Star and other campaign medals and accommodations.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee and elder and belonged to the men's club. He was a former president of the Aid Association for Lutherans and was active in the Lutheran Laymens League. He enjoyed his church and work.
On March 28, 1942, he married Virginia L. Pitts at San Bernardino, Calif. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Dwight R. Hamann of Perry, and Steve E. Hamann, Garden City; a sister, Ann Hanyka, Billings, Okla.; four grandchildren; a niece; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wilhelm Hamann.

Margaret (Mitchell) DeHart
HUGOTON - Margaret (Mitchell) DeHart, 57, of Springfield, Mo., and formerly of Hugoton, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
She was born Jan. 5, 1945, at Dodge City, the daughter of Dwight E. and Dorothy (Renfro) Mitchell.
A Springfield resident for three years, she worked for H & R Block and belonged to Assembly Of God Church, both in Springfield. She enjoyed doing fancy work and making afghans and giving them away.
Survivors include an uncle, Eugene Renfro, Hugoton; and five aunts, Shirley Brown, Harrisburg, N.C., Marilyn Wilson, San Angelo, Texas, Gladys Renfro, Ruth Polster and Julia Shank, all of Hugoton. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, with the Rev. Jeff Aenk officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home.
Marlin H. Krehbiel
LAKIN - Marlin H. Krehbiel, 79, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
He was born Oct. 26, 1922, at Halstead, the son of David S. and Elsie (Schroeder) Krehbiel. When he was 4, the family moved to Deer Creek, Okla., where he grew up on the farm. After graduating from Deer Creek High School, he received a bachelor's degree from Bethel College in North Newton in 1948.
He began his teaching career in Lakin in the fall of 1949. Following his first year of teaching at Lakin, he married Velora Schmidt on July 20, 1950, at Goessel. He later earned a master's degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Touching many lives throughout his 39 years with Lakin High School, his primary role was teaching mathematics although he also wore a coach's hat for many of his early years with USD 215. He served one year as principal and several years as assistant principal. In the years after his retirement from the classroom, he enjoyed serving the school in the summers by mowing and helping care for the school grounds.
Mr. Krehbiel was inducted into the Kansas State Teachers Hall of Fame. Also established in his name is the Marlin Krehbiel Scholarship Fund. He served as an elder and a Sunday School teacher and was in the church choir at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Dean Krehbiel, Lakin; two daughters, Sharon Ingram, Wichita, and Nancy Kessler, Lakin; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elton Krehbiel; and two sisters, Ruth Schmidt and Velma Jean Balzer.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, Lakin, with the Rev. Linda Bolz officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.

James Thomas "Tom" Wesley
James Thomas "Tom" Wesley, 47, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 at Veteran's Administration Hospital in Wichita.
He was born Sept. 24, 1954 at Plainview, Tex., the son of William Lee and Maudie Helen (Morris) Wesley.
Wesley moved to Garden City in 1968, and attended Abe Hubert Junior High and Garden City High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the early 1970s and was stationed in Germany.
After his discharge he attended Garden City Community College.
He married Sue Pedigo on Oct. 19, 2000 in Wichita.
He served as an assistant manager of a lumber yard in Hugoton, night watchman at Gotsch Feedyard in Deerfield, truck driver and had a tree trimming service.
He volunteered at the Veteran's Administration and enjoyed camping, fishing, outdoor activities and family activities. His special interest was his 1948 Panhead Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
He is a member of Harry H. Renick American Legion Post of Garden City.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert Lee Wesley and George Wesley.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, James Wesley, Joesph Wesley, Joshua Wesley and two daughters, Abby Wesley and Ashlie Wesley, all of Garden City.
Other survivors include three brothers, W.L. Wesley, Coats, Wiley Wesley and Davey Wesley, Garden City, five sisters Margaret Pierce, El Paso, Tex., Patsy McDaniel, Tyrone, Okla., Gean Oerbaugh, Ashland, Denise Denton, Ingalls, and Ada West, New Orleans.
The funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Pastor Gene Price will be officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Tom Wesley Memorial Fund, in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Calling times are 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home.
Betty Smith
Funeral for Betty Smith, 71, of Garden City, was to be 10 this morning at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Garden City. Brother Don Largent was to officiate. Graveside service was to begin at noon in Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Liberal.
Mrs. Smith died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born March 2, 1930, at Vineland, N.J, the daughter of Norman and Frances (Clark) White.
A Garden City resident since 1997, moving from Pinellas Park, Fla., she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Garden City. Due to health problems, she was no longer able to reach people door to door or house to house (Acts 20: 20), but her love for God and neighbors compelled her to continue teaching God's word by telephone.
She is survived by four daughters, Janine Lunn, Tampa, Fla., Loretta Sims, Holcomb, Lanette Lundblade, Garden City, and Julie Long, Kinsley; a brother, Bill White, Bostic, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James H. Smith; and a daughter, Darlene Dee Smith.
Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, was in charge of arrangements.
