Edna Lorene Farmer

Funeral for Edna Lorene Farmer, 63, will be 10 this morning at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. Private family burial will take place later in Texas.

Mrs. Farmer died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Feb. 21, 1938, at Seymour, Texas, the daughter of Earl and Nell (Manley) Slawson. When she was 12, the family moved to Lubbock, Texas.

On Oct. 12, 1951, she married Bill Farmer at Littlefield, Texas. They lived in Lubbock, moved to Garden City in 1961, returned to Lubbock in 1968, and moved back to Garden City in 1988.

Mrs. Farmer worked for Texas Instruments for about 10 years while living in Texas and worked for three years at Acra in Garden City. She enjoyed camping, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband; four sons, Donny Farmer, Wolfforth, Texas, Billy Farmer, Fargo, Okla., John Farmer, Wichita, and Darrin Farmer, Garden City; a daughter, Patricia Rieger, Wolfforth; three sisters, Patricia Prindle, Lubbock, Wanda Christianson, Garden City, and Lavern Foiler, California; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Margaret E. Wilken

Margaret E. Wilken, 76, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Feb. 20, 1926, at Lakin, the daughter of G.C. and Sara (Oliver) Whitaker.

A former resident of Lakin and Leoti, she had lived in Garden City since 1989. She was a homemaker and belonged to the Presbyterian Church and the Tuesday Afternoon Ladies Social Club, both at Garden City.

On Sept. 15, 1944, she married Elmer H. Wilken at Garden City. He died April 22, 1990, at Garden City. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Survivors include three sons, Harold Wilken, Garden City, William Wilken, Lakin, and James Wilken, Amarillo, Texas; three daughters, Carol Gross, Denver, Gayle Gomez, Emporia, and Sheryle Pollan, Wichita; three sisters, Edith Spencer, Lakin, Esther Kuhlman, Great Bend, and Betty Kash, Idaho; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Dave Sweley officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. today and Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Margaret E. Wilken Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.

Carlos Martinez

Vigil service for Carlos Martinez, 49, will be 6 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Carlos Garcia Pena officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mr. Martinez died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Sept. 25, 1952, at Juarez, Mexico, the son of Antonio and Elda (Yu) Martinez Robles. The family moved from Juarez to Garden City in 1994.

Mr. Martinez was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading, watching television and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his mother, Elda Martinez, of the home; a brother, Antonio Martinez, El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Elda Caro and Vicky Frias, both of Garden City; and several nieces and nephews. His father died June 19, 1998.

Visitation hours are until 5 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.

Louise Annabell Harbison

SYRACUSE - Funeral for Louise Annabell (Chamberlin) Harbison, 71, will be 1 p.m. MST Saturday at Southern Baptist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Richmond Graham officiating. Graveside committal service will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.

Mrs. Harbison died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

She was born April 3, 1930, at Canton, Okla., the daughter of Edwin Richard and Florence Matild (Gray) Chamberlin. She attended school in Oklahoma and then moved to Texas and Missouri.

A Syracuse resident since 1982, she worked as a beautician and was an Avon representative before her retirement. She had been a Sunday School teacher and was a member of Rebekah Lodge. She collected salt and pepper shakers and angels, did crocheting, embroidery and other crafts, enjoyed growing roses, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Wesley Harbison Jr., Texas, and Earnest Harbison Sr., Missouri; three daughters, Barbara Helton, Syracuse, Eleen Neeley, Fort Collins, Colo., and Gail Banks, Sherwood, Ark.; nine siblings; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Julia J. Edwards, Bernice R. DeGraff and Mary H. Gordon.

Visitation hours are until 7 MST tonight at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse, and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Garden Valley Retirement Village of Garden City, the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice, all in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878-1253.

Anna H. 'Ann' Littlechild

Prayer vigil for Anna Henrietta "Ann" Littlechild, 78, of Garden City, will be 8 p.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church, WaKeeney. Burial will be in Christ the King Catholic Cemetery, WaKeeney.

Mrs. Littlechild died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

She was born March 19, 1923, in Trego County, the daughter of Prudentius J. and Barbara (Windholz) Denning.

A Garden City resident for more than 20 years, Mrs. Littlechild had been employed as secretary/bookkeeper for KN Energy for several years. She attended St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City. Her special interests included bowling, crossword puzzles and reading, especially Agatha Christie novels.

In August 1942, she married Myron Littlechild at Cherryvale. He died in 1981. She was also preceded in death by a son, Steven M. Littlechild; three sisters, Elaine Newcomer, Helen Denning and Clara Schoenberger; and four brothers, Wilfred, Marcellus, Edmond and Martin Denning.

She is survived by five children, Myralea J. Staab, Hays, Michael A. "Mike" Littlechild, Edmond, Okla., Kathleen M. "Kathy" Fleury and Dana A. Hamilton, both of Garden City, and Kim M. Weeks, Omaha; four brothers, Joseph Denning, Hill City, Louis Denning, Tooele, Utah, Leonard Denning, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Francis Denning, Blackwell, Okla.; a sister, Evelyn Denning, Denver; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney or St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City.

Emma Marie Bean

Emma Marie Bean, infant daughter of Mike and Angela Bean, Salina, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her grandparents, Kenneth Bean of Garden City, Barbara Bean of Salina, and Steve and Sherilyn Pientka of Abilene; and her great-grandparents, Ruby Bean of Sedalia, Mo., Geraldine White of Kansas City, Kan., John and Edna Pientka and Vernon and Dorcas Brandt, all of Abilene.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Abilene.

Memorials may be made in care of Geisendorf-Rush Smith Funeral Home, 401 W. Iron, Salina 67401.

There will be no visitation.

Willie M. Marinez

Rosary for Willie M. Marinez, 30, will be 7 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating.

Mr. Marinez died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Nov. 30, 1971, at Garden City. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1990 and was a member of the 1990 GCHS wrestling state championship team.

He moved to Fayetteville, N.C., and was vice president of First Security Mortgage for four years, retiring due to ill health. He returned to Garden City in November 2001.

Survivors include his daughter, Tahlia Paige Marinez, Woodridge, Va.; his mother and stepfather, Sulema and Jesse Montemayor, Garden City; a brother, Jesse Montemayor Jr., and a sister, Grace Juarez, both of Garden City; two nephews; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Narcissa and Lucas Martinez; and a brother, Clemente Montemayor.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials to the Willie M. Marinez Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Mary Adah Stiles

LEOTI - Mary Adah Stiles, 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Wichita County Long Term Care Unit in Leoti.

She was born Nov. 27, 1909, in Marion County, the daughter of Seth Bert and Blanche (Davidson) Hodges. She graduated from Roxbury High School, Hutchinson Business School and Sterling College.

An elementary school teacher, first in McPherson County, she later taught in Leoti from 1960 until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Leoti.

On Oct. 22, 1932, she married Barry Clay Hart in McPherson County. She married Oliver Stiles on Aug. 11, 1962, at Leoti. He survives. She also is survived by a daughter, Jan Archer, Leoti; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Just officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 6 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the Leoti Emergency Medical Technicians or the Wichita County Long Term Care Home, both in care of the funeral home.

Eva (Dies) Minks

DIGHTON - Eva Dies Minks, 95, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.

She was born July 5, 1906, at Lehigh, the daughter of Henry and Christina (Bouda) Dies. She attended schools in Marion County, Kan., and Harper County, Okla.

A homemaker, she moved to Dighton in 1944 and had lived in Scott City since 1991. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery and painting and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

On July 13, 1924, she married Leslie Ray Minks Sr. at Selman, Okla. He died July 31, 1967. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Leona Joy Minks; a son, Louis Vern Minks; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; seven sisters; and five brothers.

She is survived by six daughters, Ida Florence Parker, Fairview, Okla., Eva May Thomas, Alamota, Hazel Ruth Sisco, Dighton, Ila Jean Head, Garden City, Christina Faye Fairbank, Cimarron, and Mildred Dean Rand, Omaha, Ark.; two sons, Lee Roy Minks of Portis, and Leslie Ray Minks Jr., St. John; 27 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Revs. Mike Grogan and Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to Park Lane Nursing Home or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.
