Louis Weber Jr.
SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Louis Weber Jr., 67, was to be 10:30 this morning at First Baptist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Lynne Smith officiating.
Burial was to be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Mr. Weber died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at North Bay Hospital in Aransas Pass, Texas.
He was born April 13, 1934, at Hays, the son of Louis Sr. and Elizabeth (Klotz) Weber.
A Scott City resident since 1957, moving from Russell Springs, he had worked as a mechanic for Henderson Inc., Scott City, for 44 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Fiddlers and Pickers, both at Scott City, and the Kansas Fiddlers and Pickers.
On Nov. 16, 1952, he married Wilda J. Brown in Logan County.
She survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Karen J. Glick, Peabody; four sons, Marvin W. and Darwin K., both of Denver, Brian K., Greeley, Colo., and Van A., Pueblo, Colo.; his mother, Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Delmar and David Weber, both of Denver; two sisters, Delores Weber, Denver, and Betty Piercy, Omaha; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and three sons.
Memorials to the Louis Weber Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.
George Marvin Nichols
ULYSSES - George Marvin Nichols, 58, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born June 22, 1943, on the Nichols farm in Gray County, the son of George Obert and Mildred Marie (Dalgarn) Nichols.
He attended school in Fowler, graduating in 1960.
A farmer, he had received numerous Conservation Awards.
He lived and worked on the farm until 1980 when he moved to Dodge City.
He then moved to Jetmore and later to Ulysses, becoming a resident at Western Prairie Care Home.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.
He also enjoyed sail boating and was said to have a great sense of humor.
He is survived by a brother, Wilbert O. Nichols, Ulysses; a sister, Ruth Edmonds, Mullinville; a sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Gerald and Elvin Nichols; and a sister, Lela Nichols.
Graveside memorial service and inurnment will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Fowler Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Western Prairie Care Home or the Multiple Scleroses Foundation, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Orron Gay
HOLCOMB - Orron Gay, 87, a former Holcomb resident, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at a Topeka nursing home.
He was born March 17, 1914, at Cimarron, the son of John L. and Bertha (Warren) Gay.
He graduated from Cimarron High School in 1935.
Mr. Gay was a farmer and stockman in the Holcomb community from 1950 until his retirement in 1978.
He lived in Holcomb from 1978 until moving to Topeka in 1999.
He was a life member of VFW John Haskell Post No. 2279 at Garden City and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific.
On March 27, 1935, he married Harriet E. Dewey at Dodge City.
She survives.
He is also survived by a son, Eldon L. Gay, Topeka; a foster daughter, Geraldine Shaffer, Garden City; and four nephews.
Graveside service was 1:30 p.m. Dec. 26 in Cimarron Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to VFW John Haskell Post No. 2279 or the donor's choice, both in care of Newcomer Family Funeral Home, Topeka.
Mary Levens
SYRACUSE - The family of Mary Levens, 96, will have a private funeral Thursday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse, with private burial to follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
Mrs. Levens died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born Dec. 6, 1905, at Preston.
Survivors include a daughter, E. Rogene Glenn, Wichita; a daughter-in-law; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, William Hoff, Pueblo West, Colo.; and a sister, Pauline Potter, Syracuse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Levens; a son, Manuel Levens; two brothers, Henry and Louis Hoff; and two sisters, Juva Levens and Annabell Levens.
Visitation hours are until 8 MST tonight at the funeral home.
Family and friends will gather at noon Thursday for lunch at the Christian Church in Syracuse.
