Elsie "Billye" Louk Finlay
KENDALL - Elsie "Billye" Louk Finlay, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at her rural home near Kendall.
She was born Feb. 18, 1917, at Quincy, the daughter of Charles and Hattie (Naylor) Louk.
She attended school in eastern Kansas before moving to Hamilton County in 1939.
On May 15, 1940, she married Millard Finlay at Garden City.
They were wheat farmers and had cattle.
A homemaker, Mrs. Finlay did cross stitch and gardening, and enjoyed tulips, traveling, watching "Matlock" on television and spending time with her family.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Syracuse.
Her husband died Dec. 28, 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Vern and John Louk; three sisters, Hazel Urton, Elizabeth Darland and Grace Puckett; a grandson; an infant granddaughter; and a daughter-in-law.
She is survived by two sons, Larry and Ronald Finlay, both of Kendall; two daughters, Llynde Lacey, Trenton, Neb., and Sheree Finlay, Kansas City; a sister, Bea Cummrine, Yates Center; a granddaughter-in-law; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. MST Saturday at First Christian Church, Syracuse.
A graveside committal service will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 4 to 8 MST tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST Friday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse.

Oma Jane Lappin
HUGOTON - Oma Jane Lappin, 98, of Hugoton, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
She was born Feb. 9, 1903, at Licking, Mo., the daughter of August and Celia Friend.
She moved from Jetmore to Hugoton in 1935, moved to Larned in 1957 and returned to Hugoton in the early 1990s.
A homemaker, she also worked as a restaurant cook and was a member of the Baptist Church in Missouri.
In 1923, she married James Preston Hamblin at Houston, Mo.
He died in October 1948.
She married George Lappin in October 1957 at Clayton, N.M. He died in July 1964.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James Leland Hamblin and Everett Dean Hamblin; four brothers, John, Henry, Charlie and Sherman Friend; a sister, Goldie Friend; and three grandsons.
She is survived by two sons, Russell Hamblin, Hugoton, and James A. Hamblin, Laverne, Okla.; a daughter, Evelyn Florence Hauf, Hugoton; two sisters, Minnie Renick, Licking, and Mandy Venable, Houston, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, with the Rev. Gaylon Cox officiating.
Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery, Jetmore, at 4 p.m.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at the funeral home.

Anna Ellen Barnett
Graveside service for Anna Ellen Barnett, 89, of Dodge City, was 2 p.m. Dec. 20 in Hawkeye Cemetery, northeast of Rexford, with the Rev. Gary Taylor officiating.
Mrs. Barnett died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born June 23, 1912, at the family farm home near Selden, the only daughter of four children born to Allen and Rena (Janssen) Cheney.
She grew up in the Hawkeye community and attended Fairview School.
On July 3, 1930, she married Harry A. Barnett.
They resided on a farm in Rawlins County before moving to a farm near Rexford. Mrs. Barnett was a homemaker.
Her husband died Jan. 14, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Blanche Barnett; and two brothers, Bill and Carl Cheney.
In 1996, Mrs. Barnett moved to Dodge City to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and Carroll Smith.
They survive, along with two sons, Dale Barnett, Rexford, and Harold Barnett, Pahrump, Nev.; another daughter, Harriet Jeffries, Bayfield, Colo.; a brother, Jim Cheney, Rexford; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul's Funeral Home, Selden, was in charge of arrangements.
Manuel Garcia
COPELAND - Manuel Garcia, 88, a former Copeland resident, died this morning, Jan. 3, 2002, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma, where he had been a resident since Aug. 18, 1998.
He was born May 21, 1913, at Chihuahua, Mexico, the son of Cruz and Cayethana (Olivas) Garcia.
A rancher and cowboy, he retired in 1991.
On June 9, 1945, he married Guadelupe Marquez at Col. Albaro Obregon, Chihuahua.
She survives.
He is also survived by five sons, Jesus Garcia, Spearman, Texas, Mario Garcia, Chihuahua, Cruz Garcia, Columbus, N.M., Guadalupe Garcia, El Mirage, Ariz., and Miguel Garcia, Eden, Texas; four daughters, Consepcion Garcia and Diva Withers, both of Copeland, Cayetana Antillon, Albuquerque, N.M., and Lourdes Mendoza, Los Lunas, N.M.; a brother, Cruz Garcia, Chihuahua; 36 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Juan Ramon Garcia; a sister, Librada Garcia; a brother, Encarnacion Garcia; and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland. Sam Unruh Jr., Steve Unruh and Verle Yost, ministers, will officiate.
Burial will be in Salem Church Cemetery, Copeland.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Montezuma Funeral Home.

Alma Burr
SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Alma Burr, 87, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Scott City, with the Revs. Richard Kaczor and John Riebhoff officiating.
Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Mrs. Burr died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
She was born Dec. 11, 1914, at Red Bird, Mo., the daughter of Henry and Marie (Zuchanbueler) Brueggemann.
A Scott City resident since the early 1930s, she was a homemaker and belonged to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
On Sept. 9, 1940, she married Gottfried "Fritz" Burr at Scott City. He died June 2, 1983, at Scott City.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, two sisters and a grandson.
Survivors include a son, Don Burr, Scott City; a grandson; and two sisters, Dora Epler, Ness City, and Mindy Krug, Lake Havasu, Ariz.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church or Park Lane Nursing Home, both in care of the funeral home.
