Richard F. Wilmore
ULYSSES - Richard F. Wilmore, 72, of Spearville, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
He was born April 20, 1929, the son of John and Margaret (Ellis) Wilmore.
A Spearville resident since 1992, moving from Dodge City, he was the manager of the Dodge City Co-op fertilizer department until retiring in 1996.
On Oct. 22, 1949, he married Margaret Tull. She died June 27, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include two sons, Rick Wilmore, Ulysses, and John Wilmore, Moore, Okla.; three daughters, Bobbi Doll and Sheli Wilmore, both of Spearville, and Becki Jo An Salm, Dodge City; two sisters, Janita Blasdel, Topeka, and Arlene Stahlheber, San Diego; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with the Rev. Lloyd Swindler officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Memorials to the Richard Wilmore Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Raymond J. Cruz
Vigil service for Raymond J. Cruz, 62, will be 8 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Cruz died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born March 7, 1939, at Clayton, N.M., the son of Ben and Benita (Leal) Cruz.
A Garden City resident since April 1956, moving from Clayton, he worked for Oswalt Butler for 30 years and most recently was a bus driver for the Senior Center of Finney County.
Mr. Cruz was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, serving as Eucharistic Minister, Stephen Minister and Mass server. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for 15 years, liked to play golf and bingo, and enjoyed old cars and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
On Oct. 15, 1956, he married Alice A. Mendoza at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Tim Cruz, Garden City, and Anthony Cruz, Holcomb; two daughters, Juanita Blackwell, Garden City, and Debra Olivas, Arkansas City; five brothers, Sam and Alfred Cruz, both of Garden City, Regnaldo Cruz, Wichita, Frank Cruz, Plattsburg, Mo., and Larry Cruz, Hutchinson; five sisters, Alice Aragon, Albuquerque, N.M., Rose Valdez, Raton, N.M., Adelina Ritz and Isabel Aguilera, both of Garden City, and Carol Orrantia, Lansing; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Della.

John A. Kutz
Funeral for John A. Kutz, 66, of Garden City, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Sawyer, with the Rev. Jan E. Blasi officiating. Burial will follow in Ellenwood Cemetery
in Sawyer.
Mr. Kutz died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
He was born Feb. 2, 1935, at Glendale, in Pratt County, the son of Harry W. and Elsie L. (Wilcox) Kutz. He attended Sawyer schools.
An electrician, Mr. Kutz was employed with KG&E in Newton from 1967 to 1982. He then moved to Garden City and was employed with Wheatland Electric before retiring in March 2001. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sawyer.
On Oct. 25, 1953, he married Ida Marie Wait at Sawyer. She survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Debby Roberts, Guymon, Okla., Teresa Miller, Newton, and Jackie Stoy, Garden City; a son, David Kutz, Garden City; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald Kutz, Pratt, and Darryl Kutz, Wichita. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Kutz.

Brenda S. Dunlap
SATANTA - Funeral for Brenda S. Dunlap, 52, of Colorado Springs, Colo., will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Prairie Church Of God, Satanta, with the Revs. Fred M. Hauck II and Fred Stifel officiating. Burial will be in Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta.
Mrs. Dunlap died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Pikes Peak Hospice, Colorado Springs, where she had been a resident since May 29, 2001.
She was born April 20, 1949, at Garden City, the daughter of Orval and Mayola (Stephenson) Jones. She graduated from Satanta High School in 1967 and attended Friends University at Wichita.
A Wichita resident from 1967 to 1979, she moved to Colorado Springs, then to Divide, Colo., and to Woodland Park, Colo. The past 10 years she had lived in Denver before moving back to the farm in rural Satanta in 1999 due to ill health.
She had worked for Southwestern Bell & Mountain Bell Telecommunications until 1987 and then worked for 10 years for Nortel Networks, Denver, as district sales manager.
Mrs. Dunlap was a member of Pleasant Prairie Church Of God. She loved her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Her many hobbies included volleyball, white water rafting, traveling, scuba diving, theater and concerts.
She is survived by a daughter, Amy Suits, Colorado Springs; a stepson, Donald Dunlap, Arizona; two stepdaughters, Julie Lundgren, Leadville, Colo., and Karen Boone, Colorado Springs; her parents, Satanta; two brothers, Dr. Randy Jones, Yakima, Wash., and James Jones, Ulysses; a granddaughter; and four stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Charles M. Walter
Charles M. Walter, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Oct. 8, 1918, at Alamota, the son of Edward William and Minnie Ellen (Smith) Walter, and grew up in Lane County. He graduated from Dighton High School, attended Hutchinson Junior College and graduated from Wichita Barber College. He served in the U.S. Army during the World War II era from 1946 to 1947.
Mr. Walter had been a Garden City resident since 1948. A self-employed barber, he owned and operated Walter's Barber Shop in Garden City for 29 years, retiring in 1984. He also worked at one time as a farmer and in the oil refinery.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a life member of the Optimist Club and belonged to Tyrian Masonic Lodge No. 246, all at Garden City, he served as President from 1968 to 1970 with the American Master Barbers and Beauticians Association of Kansas, belonged to the Senior Center of Finney County and was involved with the local Boy Scouts. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, gardening, cooking, playing Santa Claus for the Optimist Club, telling jokes and taking care of string instruments for USD 457.
On Sept. 12, 1948, he married Winifred J. Smith at Bentley. She died Sept. 9, 1991. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Maurice Walter; a stepson, Dennis Smith; five brothers; and four sisters.
On Aug. 25, 1992, he married Marian Smith at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Dean Alan Walter, Liberal; two daughters, Dr. Gail Elizabeth Walter, Lawrence, and Carol Maxine Franz, Garden City; a stepson, Walynn Smith, Cheyenne, Wyo.; a stepdaughter, Roxie Thompson, Garden City; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Martha Baker
SYRACUSE - Martha Baker, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at the Hamilton County Extended Care Facility in Syracuse.
She was born Dec. 21, 1912, at Catharine, the daughter of Joe and Rosa (Browne) Peters, and grew up in Victoria. She was the youngest of 16 children and was the only daughter. Known as "The Pie Baker," she was baking pies by the time she was 5 and continued throughout her career in the restaurant industry.
Mrs. Baker worked as a cook in Victoria, Ulysses and Garden City before going to work for Paul Gaddish at the Capri Restaurant in Syracuse in 1969. She operated that restaurant herself for five years, calling it Capri No. 2, and continued to work for various restaurant owners at the same location, which was later known as the Ramble-N Restaurant. She was a cook, waitress and owner/operator before retiring in October 2000.
A Syracuse resident for more than 40 years, she was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. She enjoyed her dog, D.J., and her cat, Tammy.
On May 27, 1954, she married George Hiram Baker at Ulysses. He died June 15, 1967. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her special friends, Donna Tedder, Mary Ann Fair and LeAnn Hess, all of Syracuse.
A memorial rosary and vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. MST Monday at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Syracuse. Memorial funeral Mass will start at 10 a.m. MST Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Mike Helms as celebrant. Graveside inurnment will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
