Bernard Michael "Ben" Herrman
Rosary for Bernard Michael "Ben" Herrman, 59, of Quinter, will be 7 tonight at St. Aloysius Church, Ransom. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be in Ransom Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by Ransom VFW.
Mr. Herrman died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born Dec. 23, 1942, at Utica, the son of Albert and Isabel (Lefort) Herrman. In 1970, he married L. Susan Franklin at Utica.
Mr. Herrman was a city maintenance worker for the city of Quinter. He belonged to St. Michael's Catholic Church at Park and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by his mother, Ransom; three brothers, Joseph, Garden City, Robert, Utica, and Ralph, St. Joseph, Mo.; and two sisters, Rosanna Haug, Ransom, and Veronica Reddig, Salina. He was preceded in death by his father in 1977; a sister, Loretta Perkins, in 1995; and an infant brother in 1941.
Visitation hours are until 4 tonight at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, and at the church this evening and until service time Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home, Box 96, Ness City, KS 67560.
Charles Irwin Hager
Charles Irwin Hager, 88, a former Garden City resident, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Olathe, after a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 10, 1913, at Halley's Bluff, Mo., the son of C.C. and Maude May (Paulk) Hager. He graduated from Chase High School in Chase in 1933, and attended Bresee College at Hutchinson and McPherson College.
A longtime resident of both Dodge City and Garden City, he had lived in Hutchinson for 10 years before moving to Olathe in September 2001. He was a retired Realtor, had previously managed a lumber yard, and was a land developer, builder and farmer.
Mr. Hager was a member of Church of the Nazarene for 77 years, was a soloist for his high school graduating class, sang for weddings and funerals, and served as church choir director.
On Aug. 10, 1934, he married Lucile A. Boldt at Chase. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Fayra L. Eckley, Olathe; a son, Eldon D. Hager, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; a sister, Ida Belle Dothage, Jefferson City, Mo.; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Stewart.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Memorial Park, Hutchinson.
Visitation hours will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Charles Hager Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of MidAmerica Nazarene University, 2030 College Way, Olathe, KS 66062.

Raymond J. Cruz
Vigil service for Raymond J. Cruz, 62, was 8 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass was to be 10:30 this morning at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Cruz died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born March 7, 1939, at Clayton, N.M., the son of Ben and Benita (Leal) Cruz.
A Garden City resident since April 1956, moving from Clayton, he worked for Oswalt Butler for 30 years and most recently was a bus driver for the Senior Center of Finney County.
Mr. Cruz was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, serving as Eucharistic Minister, Stephen Minister and Mass server. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for 15 years, liked to play golf and bingo, and enjoyed old cars and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
On Oct. 15, 1956, he married Alice A. Mendoza at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Tim Cruz, Garden City, and Anthony Cruz, Holcomb; two daughters, Juanita Blackwell, Garden City, and Debra Olivas, Arkansas City; five brothers, Sam and Alfred Cruz, both of Garden City, Regnaldo Cruz, Wichita, Frank Cruz, Plattsburg, Mo., and Larry Cruz, Hutchinson; five sisters, Alice Aragon, Albuquerque, N.M., Rose Valdez, Raton, N.M., Adelina Ritz and Isabel Aguilera, both of Garden City, and Carol Orrantia, Lansing; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Della.

Alice H. Weatherred
DEERFIELD - Funeral for Alice H. Weatherred, 91, a Deerfield resident before recently moving to Lakin, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peacock Funeral Home, Lamar, Colo., with Ken Gunter co-officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
Mrs. Weatherred died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
She was born Aug. 19, 1910, at Syracuse, the daughter of George and Eliza (Lester) Benedict.
Survivors include her children, Lois W. Venn, Ault, Colo., Caryol Heckman, McClave, Colo., and Bob Weatherred, Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter-in-law; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.V. "Rusty" Weatherred; a son, Duane Weatherred; a daughter, Anna Lee Weatherred; her parents; seven brothers; and four sisters.

A. Alline Dougherty
Funeral for A. Alline Dougherty, 79, of Findlay, Ohio, was 11 a.m. Monday at Routson Funeral Chapel, Findlay, with the Rev. Dan Young officiating. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Dougherty died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Winebrenner Village.
She was born April 21, 1922, at Agra, Okla., the daughter of Ervin W. and Maida M. (Merritt) Gosnell.
Mrs. Dougherty had various jobs throughout her life, including working as a truck scaler, as a lab technician at NW Ohio Sugar, and doing alterations at Alice Beauty Shop from 1960 to 1961 in Findlay. A homemaker, she was past president of the Senior Citizens Center in Findlay, had volunteered with Meals on Wheels in the past and belonged to Women of the Moose since 1979.
On June 23, 1939, she married Hubert L. Dougherty at Garden City. He died May 8, 1976. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Pugh; five brothers, Ray, Roy, Hershel, Frank and Otis Gosnell; and three sisters, Zellie Gosnell, Nina Cook and Leona Newell.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra "Sue" Schirtzinger, Pawleys Island, S.C., and Louise "Elaine" VanAtta, Findlay; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Hollenbeck, Canyon City, Colo., and Joyce Gildea, Blackwell, Okla.

Frank A. Jordan
DIGHTON - Funeral for Frank A. Jordan, 75, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Richmond Graham officiating. Burial will be in Shields Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 190, Dighton.
Mr. Jordan died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born June 24, 1926, at Ellisville, Miss., the son of Leon Cooper and Carrie Oralene (Allen) Jordan.
A longtime resident of Lane and Gove counties, he worked in the fertilizer department at the Farmers Co-op Elevator in Dighton. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Dighton and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. His special interests were camping, traveling, fishing and yard work.
On May 3, 1947, he married Von Davidson at Goodland. She died May 1, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Craig and Teron Jordan; a grandson; two sisters, Elouise and Helen Jean; and a brother, Leon Cooper Jordan Jr.
He is survived by three sons, R.C. Jordan, Jetmore, Charles and Franklin D. Jordan, both of Dighton; two daughters, Jodene Lafferty, Weatherford, Texas, and Susan Sisco, Garden City; a brother, Charles Jordan, and a sister, Margaret Norton, both of Ellisville; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to Lane County Long Term Care or First Baptist Church, both in care of the funeral home.
Faye Dicks
Funeral for Faye Dicks, 91, will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Dicks died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 16, 1910, at Howard, the daughter of John and Nellie (Powers) Eaton. She grew up in Hutchinson, graduated from Hutchinson High School and later attended Salt City Business College.
In 1930, she moved to a farm near Pierceville. She moved to Garden City in 1933. A homemaker, she also worked as a bookkeeper for the family business, Dicks Dairy, for 36 years, retiring in 1973.
Mrs. Dicks was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City and the United Methodist Women, and was a charter member of Banner E.H.U. and of the Aurora Club. She enjoyed sports and the rodeo.
On July 31, 1933, she married Raymond Dicks at Cimarron. He died Jan. 21, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Willie Eaton.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlene Burke, Sabetha; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
