Marie M. Montney
Vigil service for Marie M. Montney, 77, will be 7 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Montney died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Sept. 17, 1924, at Cheney, the daughter of Charles O. and Viola E. (Charter) Gatlin.
A resident of Garden City, recently of Ulysses, she had moved from Reno County in 1930. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
On July 12, 1944, she married Vern I. Montney at Garden City. He died Sept. 19, 1992, at Colorado Springs, Colo. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Hazel Gatlin.
She is survived by five sons, Gordon Montney of Lawrence, Wayne Montney, Springfield, Ill., Gerald Montney, Colorado Springs, Timothy Montney, Birmingham, Ala., and Rodney Montney, Topeka; three daughters, Edith Oxford, Ulysses, Virginia Hammersmith, Lawrence, and Susan Purcell, Satanta; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Larry Lee Pauley
Larry Lee Pauley, 52, a former Garden City resident, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
He was born Oct. 24, 1949, the son of J.F. "Bud" and Margie Pauley.
He is survived by a daughter, Sheila Bennington, Wichita; a son, Justin, U.S. Marine Corps, Quantico, Va.; a brother, Lanny Pauley, Garden City; and three sisters, Cheri Renick, Ingalls, Linda Mader and Vicki Salyer, both of Las Vegas, Nev. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are planned at George Boone Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Lillie Belle Egbert
CIMARRON - Lillie Belle Egbert, 94, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron.
She was born April 27, 1907, at Copeland, the daughter of Alva and Elva (Dye) Frazier. She grew up in the Salem Valley community and graduated from Copeland High School in 1924. After graduating with a teaching degree from Fort Hays State University, she taught in a one-room school in Gray County.
In 1933, she married Gilbert W. Egbert. They lived in Gray County, working in farming and ranching. A homemaker, Mrs. Egbert was a member of Ingalls Community Bible Church and P.E.O. at Cimarron.
She is survived by a son, Gilbert W. Egbert Jr., Pacific Palisades, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Kay Egbert, Ingalls; two granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters, four brothers and a son, Robert Egbert.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Cimarron Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Whalen officiating.
Visitation hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials are suggested to The Shepherd's Center or Ingalls Community Bible Church, both in care of the funeral chapel.
Sharon L. Gillispie
Funeral for Sharon L. Gillispie, 64, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Jon Becker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Gillispie died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at her home in Garden City.
She was born July 13, 1937, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of William Frank and Gertrude Leona (Powers) Thornbrugh. She attended schools in Kalvesta and Garden City.
Mrs. Gillispie had worked at Monfort, Val-Ag and IBP. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Holcomb, and enjoyed bingo, reading, watching television, fishing and dancing.
Survivors include a son, Michael Gillispie, Pueblo, Colo.; a daughter, Becky Larsen, Ashland; a brother, Robert Thornbrugh, Thayer, Mo.; two sisters, Laura Goodnight and Juanita Hahn, both of Garden City; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Terry Lee and Robert William Jr.; and two brothers, William E. Thornbrugh and Lynn Allen Thornbrugh.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Eardie A. "Butch" Norton
Graveside service for Eardie A. "Butch" Norton, 49, of South Hutchinson, will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson.
Mr. Norton died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Hospice Residential Care Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1952, at WaKeeney, the son of Eardie and Lola (Green) Norton. He was a self-employed carpenter and artist.
On June 23, 2001, he married Dorothy Collier at South Hutchinson. She survives. He is also survived by four sons, Jerry, Tug, Jake and Sam Norton; three stepsons, Richard Woodyard, Garden City, Matthew Collier, Hutchinson, and Victor Burkholder, McPherson; a stepdaughter, Krystal Burkholder, South Hutchinson; a sister, Joyce Unruh, Garden City; his parents, Garden City; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kelly Norton.
Visitation hours are from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, Hutchinson. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Reno County, in care of the funeral home.
Floyd V. Pinnick
ULYSSES - Floyd V. Pinnick, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at his home in Yuma, Ariz.
He was born June 11, 1913, at Fowler, the son of Thomas V. and Cora (Guffey) Pinnick. He graduated from Ensign High School and Kansas State University.
Mr. Pinnick was president of Grant County Bank from 1954 to 1984 and served as chairman of the board until his death. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Ulysses Rotary Club and served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II, being discharged as a lieutenant colonel.
On Sept. 26, 1936, he married Virginia E. "Peggy" Pinnick at Manhattan. She died Dec. 23, 2000. He was also preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas J. Pinnick, Ulysses, and Dr. Robert V. Pinnick, Bend, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Ulysses, with Dr. Max Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Norman J. Meyeres
Parish vigil for Norman J. Meyeres, 67, of Ness City, was 7:30 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City. Funeral Mass was to be 10:30 this morning at the church, with the Rev. Gregory LeBlanc officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ness City, with military graveside rites conducted by the Ness City American Legion.
Mr. Meyeres died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at his home in Ness City.
He was born March 14, 1934, at Beaver, the son of Nick and Marie (Frenzel) Meyeres.
Mr. Meyeres was a welder and worked for the oil industry. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the American Legion, both at Ness City, and Ransom VFW and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
On Nov. 3, 1954, he married Dorothy Schreweis at Odin. She died April 27, 1995. He was also preceded in death by his mother and a daughter, Kristi Meyeres.
On Aug. 23, 1997, he married Beth Bryant at Ness City. She survives. He is also survived by his father, Hoisington; a son, Steven Meyeres, Garden City; two daughters, Kathy Kohls, Garden City, and Nancy Renner, Dodge City; a stepdaughter, Rene Borden, Bartlesville, Okla.; a brother, John Meyeres, Bazine; three sisters, Flossie Ptacek, Great Bend, Betty Tauscher, Larned, and Lea Zorn, Falcon, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
