Wreatha N. Etling
Wreatha N. Etling, 84, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born July 23, 1917, at Copeland, the daughter of Peter E. and Charlotte G. (Lemon) Hesser.
A Garden City resident since 1950, moving from Pratt, she was a homemaker. She belonged to First Christian Church.
On July 14, 1940, she married Hoy B. Etling at Copeland. He survives. She is also survived by a son, James Etling, Garden City; two daughters, Sharon Cook, Garden City, and Sheryl Etling, Vermillion, S.D.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Arnold, Harley, Leslie, Donald and Wayne Hesser; and two sisters, Natalie Malone and Beulah Erwin.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Ray Lawrence Perkins
SYRACUSE - Graveside service for Ray Lawrence Perkins, 90, was to be 10 MT this morning in Syracuse Cemetery.
Mr. Perkins died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born March 13, 1911, in the Ivanhoe rural community in Beaver County, Okla., the son of Perry Bert and Effie Delila (Woodworth) Perkins. He attended rural schools in Oklahoma.
Mr. Perkins worked in Beaver County as a farmer and in bridge construction, made and sold signs throughout the western part of the United States, operated a cafe in Liberal and a motel in Guthrie, Okla., was a ranch cook in New Mexico, and worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita from 1942 to 1945.
He was a service-station proprietor in Syracuse from 1937-1942 and 1945-1960, owned and operated the Perkins Park Zoo, Pet Shop, Campground & Gift Shop in Syracuse (where he had the world's largest collection of squirrels) from 1953 to 1965, and was a dog breeder and dog show trainer from 1960 to 1974. He continued to operate a campground in Syracuse until his retirement in 1984. He loved animals and pets and especially enjoyed his dogs.
On July 17, 1930, he married Neva Scobee at Laverne, Okla. She died Jan. 3, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Crystal Pearl Goosey, Olive Fox, Rachel Viola McVicker and Lillian Mae Munzesheimer; four brothers, Clarence Morgan Perkins, Ivan Perry Perkins, Mark Earl Perkins and George Oliver Perkins; and a daughter-in-law.
He is survived by a son, Noel Perkins, Syracuse; a brother, William Everett Perkins, Monroe, Wash.; two sisters, Iva Marie Fullerton, Wichita, and Ruth Delila Sugg, Tulsa, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen Faye Hitz
Helen Faye Hitz, 86, of Bucklin, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Hill Top House Nursing Home in Bucklin.
She was born July 10, 1915, in Bloom Township in Ford County, the daughter of Maurice and Lillian (Livingston) Shufelberger.
A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Progressive Club, both at Kingsdown, and was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
On Nov. 9, 1934, she married Glen J. Hitz at Dodge City. He died May 20, 1987.
She is survived by two sons, Richard and his wife, Jody, of Pratt, and Leonard and his wife, Nancy, of Garden City; a brother, Dale Shufelberger, Manhattan; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church, Kingsdown, with the Rev. Orlando Jantz officiating. Burial will be in Bucklin Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Minnis Mortuary, Bucklin. Memorials are suggested to Hill Top House or the church, both in care of the mortuary, Box 516, Bucklin, KS 67834.
Alma E. Hoffman
Funeral for Alma E. Hoffman, 79, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with Dr. Richard P. Frederick officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.
Mrs. Hoffman died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born July 31, 1922, at WaKeeney, the daughter of Jacob and Magdalena (Mai) Stoppel. She grew up in WaKeeney and attended schools there until the family moved to Garden City in the mid-1930s.
A homemaker, Mrs. Hoffman enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.
On Sept. 27, 1941, she married John "Jack" Hoffman at Hugoton. He died Aug. 10, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ernest Stoppel; and a grandson.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Deaver and Beverly Kraus, both of Garden City; three brothers, Edward and Alvin Stoppel, both of Sublette, and Arthur Stoppel, Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Delmar Rogers Danielson
THEODOSIA, Mo. - Delmar Rogers Danielson, 79, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at his home in Theodosia, Mo. He was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Canton, Okla., the son of Earl and Hattie Rogers Danielson.
On July 7, 1943, he married Josephine Marie Domme in Dodge City. They divorced.
On Aug. 17, 1967, he married Beulah Orene Gooden in Garden City. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Edwin B. Danielson, Austin, Texas, Gary L. Danielson, Gulfport, Miss., Laverne R. Danielson, Middleton, Md.; two stepsons, Archie Gooden, Garden City, Tony Gooden, Antonito, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Orene Crawford, Joplin, Mo., seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was a service repairman for the Dodge City Newkirk Appliance Store and moved to Theodosia in the 1970s.
There, he opened his own appliance repair business, which he operated until his retirement. While in Theodosia, he was instrumental in starting the volunteer fire department, water department and rejuvenating the golf course.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Theodosia.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home. Rev. Gary Don Newman will be officiating the service. There will be no calling times.

Donald Allen Nordyke Jr.
Donald Allen Nordyke Jr., 47, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at his home in Dodge City.
He was born June 28, 1954, at Garden City, the son of Donald Allen Sr. and Marguerite (Cherry) Nordyke. He lived in Deerfield and attended Deerfield Grade School before the family moved to Sterling, Colo., where he attended junior high, high school and Northeastern Junior College.
In 1977, he moved to Ashland. He began working for Dodge City Toyota as a Toyota master technician. In the mid-1980s, he moved to Dodge City. He enjoyed reading, animals (especially cats), traveling and visiting historical sites.
He is survived by his mother, Lakin; two brothers, Noel C. Taylor, Deerfield, and Bob C. Taylor, Liberal; two sisters, Marianne Nordyke, Garden City, and Martha Farris, Lakin; five nephews; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. A private family burial will take place later.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Darlene M. Dickson
LAKIN - Funeral for Darlene M. Dickson, 61, of Lakin, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Lakin Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Lakin Cemetery.
Mrs. Dickson died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born July 2, 1940, at Ulysses, the daughter of Sylvester T. and Opal M. (Dunsworth) Hildreth Oliver.
A Lakin resident since 1959, Mrs. Dickson was a cosmetologist, owning and operating Darlene's La Boutique in Lakin from 1970 to 1978. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Kansas Cosmetology Association, was a former 4-H leader and enjoyed bowling.
On Nov. 29, 1959, she married Robert C. Dickson at Ulysses. He died July 6, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a grandson.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Dickson, Holcomb; two daughters, Kim Ansel, Kersey, Colo., and Judy Dickson, Garden City; two brothers, Elmer Oliver, Dayton, Texas, and Leland Oliver, Houston; two sisters, Betty Brent, Ulysses, and Velda Holsten, Ensign; her stepfather, James Hildreth, Ulysses; and 10 grandchildren.
