Lorene M. Yost
MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Lorene M. Yost, 75, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma. Charles Schmidt, Glen Yost and Ron Ensz, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in North Mennonite Cemetery, Montezuma.
Mrs. Yost died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
She was born Jan. 25, 1927, at Hillsboro, the daughter of Aaron and Marie (Martens) Nikkel.
Mrs. Yost worked in the obstetrics department at the Montezuma Clinic taking care of mothers and their babies. She was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, loved spending time with her family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and liked to camp in Woodland Park, Colo.
She is survived by her husband, Archie Yost, Montezuma; a son, Edward Yost, St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Charlene Dirks, Leoti; a brother, Delbert Nikkel, Moundridge; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steven Keith Yost; and a great-granddaughter.

Vayla L. Palmer
Funeral for Vayla L. Palmer, 87, of Bella Vista, Ark., will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial is scheduled for Thursday in Woodbery Forest Cemetery
in Madill, Okla.
Mrs. Palmer died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Bella Vista Care Facility.
She was born Jan. 1, 1915, at Medicine Lodge, the daughter of John L. and Grace (Coleman) Tincher.
On July 30, 1937, she married Guy D. Palmer at Medicine Lodge. They founded Palmer Welding and Tank Co. in Garden City. He died in June 1987. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jasper Tincher; and a sister, Maxine Shirley.
Mrs. Palmer had been a longtime resident of Garden City, living here from 1944 until retiring to Lake Texhoma, Okla., in 1966. She moved to Topeka in 1988 and to Bella Vista in August 2001.
She is survived by a brother, John C. Tincher of Lyndon, and several nieces and nephews.

Rosie M. Rupp
Vigil service for Rosie M. Rupp, 80, will be 8 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by Daughters of Isabella rosary. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Rupp died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at her home in Garden City.
She was born March 29, 1921, at Liebenthal, the daughter of Jacob and Agatha (Herrman) Brungardt. When she was young, the family moved to a farm near Holcomb and she attended schools there.
On May 17, 1938, she married John F. Rupp at Garden City. They lived on the farm until moving to Garden City in 1979. He died Aug. 10, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, Martin, Adam, Albert, Tony, Frank, Herman, Joe and Benny Brungardt; and a sister, Susan Hermann.
A homemaker, Mrs. Rupp also enjoyed singing and at one time she sang on the radio. She also enjoyed playing the piano, playing bingo, bridge and Yatzee, dancing, cooking, making bierocks, gardening, ceramics and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and VFW Auxiliary and a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include five sons, LeRoy and Larry Rupp, both of Garden City, Robert and Johnny Rupp, both of Holcomb, and Alan Rupp, Colby; three daughters, Juanita Walck and Arlene Rowley, both of Holcomb, and Ruth Jackson, Las Vegas; two sisters, Barbara Matza, Garden City, and Mary Hert, Chicago; 38 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 6:30 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the St. Mary School Endowment Fund, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Thelma L. Vycital
ALAMOTA - Funeral for Thelma L. Vycital, 100, was to be 10:30 this morning at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating. Burial was to be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Vycital died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center in Jetmore.
She was born Dec. 22, 1901, at Gem, the daughter of Henry and Sylvia (Thompson) Deimer.
A resident of Rexford until moving to Alamota in 1923, she was a homemaker. She belonged to the United Methodist Church of Dighton, was a 75-year member and past matron of Order of the Eastern Star No. 241 of Dighton, a charter member of P.E.O. and belonged to the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed playing bridge, crocheting, reading and cooking.
On July 1, 1923, she married Winslow F. Vycital at Salina. He died April 10, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
She is survived by a daughter, Joan Trebilcock, Alamota; a son, Jim Vycital, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Alton R. Foster
Alton R. Foster, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 22, 1920, at Texarkana, Ark., the son of Alton Rhea Sr. and Patricia Lowry (Carstarphen) Foster. He grew up in Hot Springs, Ark., graduated from high school in Little Rock, Ark., and then earned a degree in music from Hendrix College in Conway, Ark.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. After his discharge from the service, he received his master's degree in music from Wichita State University.
Mr. Foster served as band director at Great Bend High School for five years. In 1951, he moved to Garden City where he was the owner and operator of Foster Music Store until retiring in 1987.
He and his wife, Martha Mae (Edwards) Foster, whom he had married on Nov. 27, 1942, at Conway, moved to Bella Vista, Ark., after their retirement. She died July 19, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Foster had recently returned to Garden City. He was a member of Bella Vista Community Church, belonged to the church choir and church quartet, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Bella Vista. His special interests were golf, his family activities and athletics. An accomplished musician, he played the trombone in the Bella Vista Big Band and the Bella Vista Community Band, and also gave music lessons.
He is survived by three sons, Rhea Foster, Stillwater, Okla., Lowry Foster, Little Rock, and Jim Foster, Garden City; two daughters, Mary Beth Spellman, Garden City, and Jane Hollingsworth, Oklahoma City; two brothers, LeRoy Foster, Ashland, Ore., and Jim Foster, Harrison, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Bella Vista Community Church, with the Rev. David McKay officiating.

Mary Gaylord
Mary Gaylord, 88, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Oct. 14, 1913, at Nekoma, the daughter of Fred and Hazel (Friend) Gardner. The family lived in the Eminence area of Finney County, and she attended rural schools and Ingalls Grade School.
Mrs. Gaylord lived in the Finney County and Garden City area for most of her life, with the exception of a period spent in California. Since 1987, she has spent her time between Garden City and Wichita. She had been employed at Boeing in Wichita, worked as a seamstress, and retired from USD 457 in Garden City in the 1970s.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Garden City, the Senior Center of Finney County and the Good SAM R.V. Club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, canning, spending time in the country, cooking, fishing, camping, traveling and dancing.
On Sept. 26, 1932, she married Vernon H. Gaylord at Garden City. He died Aug. 16, 1961. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a son, Vernon Gaylord Jr., Denair, Calif.; a daughter, Nelva Eastman, Wichita; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 4 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
