Dorothy E. Gardiner
Funeral for Dorothy E. Gardiner, 84, of Garden City, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, Garden City. Larry Steadman, deacon, will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Gardiner died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Feb. 11, 1917, at Ozona, Texas, the daughter of Everett E. and Samantha (Patrick) Finigan.
On Jan. 12, 1937, she married Allen D. Burns. On April 22, 1960, she married Ralph Gardiner at Liberal. He died May 3, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a brother, a great-granddaughter and a stepson.
A Garden City resident since 1957, moving from Lakin, she a sales clerk for the Vogue Shop in Garden City. In 1972, she and her husband moved to Pampa, Texas, where they co-managed the Pampa Country Club. They retired in 1975 and returned to Garden City in 1995.
Mrs. Gardiner was a member of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, a former member of Order of the Eastern Star in Lakin, and enjoyed her noontime lunches with friends at the local Dillons store.
She is survived by two daughters, Pat LeClerc, Garden City, and JoAnn VanKoughnet, Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepdaughter, Sally Gardiner, Longmont, Colo.; a stepson, Robert R. Gardiner, Wichita; a sister, Louise Reischling, San Antonio; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
David G. Hayes
INGALLS - David G. Hayes, 59, of Ingalls, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 18, 1942, at Cimarron, the son of Joseph Charles and Golda (Buchanan) Hayes.
A lifetime resident of Ingalls, he worked in the fertilizer department of the Ingalls Co-op. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include two brothers, Eldon, Guymon, Okla., and Allen, Ingalls; two sisters, Lela Hedrick, Garden City, and Carol Morrow, Dodge City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joseph Wayne Hayes.
Private family services will be conducted. There will be no public visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Kansas Soldiers Home, in care of Burkhart's Gray County Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 786, Cimarron, KS 67835.
Helen C. Chipley
A private family graveside service for Helen C. Chipley, 72, was conducted today in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Chipley died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born April 3, 1929, at Boonville, Mo., the daughter of Romeo and Rosella (Baker) Brown.
A Garden City resident since 1973, moving from Overland Park, she was a homemaker. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Garden City.
On Dec. 25, 1947, she married Robert E. Chipley at Boonville. He died Feb. 15, 2000, at Garden City.
She is survived by a son, Larry E. Chipley, Manhattan, N.Y.; a daughter, Pamela Sue Chipley, Garden City; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.
Friends who would like to share their love, support and memories with the family are invited to the Chipley residence, 1701 Old Manor Road, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Helen C. Chipley Memorial Fund, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.
Robert Spencer Gordon Sr.
COPELAND - Robert Spencer Gordon Sr., 81, of Copeland, died today, Dec. 19, 2001, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
He was born Sept. 17, 1920, at Atlanta, Kan., the son of Clyde Marion and Etta Isophene (Hindman) Gordon. He received his education in the Cedarvale schools.
On Oct. 20, 1946, he married Ellen Fay Hensley at Yates Center. After farming 19 years in eastern Kansas, the family moved to Copeland where he became an employee of Sublette Feeders feedlot until his retirement. Following a stroke in July 1990, he entered Bethel Home in Montezuma in February 1991.
Mr. Gordon was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion, both at Copeland, and the VFW in Dodge City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, as an ambulance driver in Italy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert Spencer Gordon Jr., Copeland, and Daniel Ray Gordon of Howard; two daughters, Crystal Ellen Spanier of Howard and Cherisse Elaine Jantz, Copeland; a brother, E.C. "Bill" Gordon, Owasso, Okla.; two sisters, Iola Pettigrew, Dexter, and Gladys Kerr, Winfield; two stepsisters, Marion Langius of Texas and Carolyn Marietta, Quechee, Vt.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, F.L. "Curly" Gordon; and an infant step half brother.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Copeland, with the Rev. Warren Cico officiating. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home, in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
Thomas Edwin Frazer
Thomas Edwin Frazer, 47, of Salida, Colo., died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at St. Joseph, Mo., from injuries suffered in an elevator accident.
Born in Garden City on June 17, 1954, he was the son of Edwin "Jack" and Evelyn (Powell) Frazer.
A 1973 graduate of Pratt High School, he worked for several years for Cromer Farms before moving to the Garden City area where he farmed for Gigot Irrigation. He then moved to Salida where he was manager of Monarch Mountain Lodge before beginning work as an elevator engineer.
Mr. Frazer was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church at Overland Park, the Motorized Vehicle Coalition of Colorado and the National Rifle Association, and was a strong supporter of the Department of Conservation and Colorado Forest Service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and rafting.
On Dec. 30, 1978, he married Mary Jo Godsey at Wichita. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Samuel Edwin; four sisters, Karen Nixon, Overland Park, Cathy Blasi and Sandy Foster, both of Pratt, and Patricia Minet, Dodge City; his mother and father-in-law, Harvey and Betty Godsey, Independence; a brother-in-law, David Godsey, Fayetteville, Ark.; six nieces; six nephews; two grandnieces; and two grandnephews.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, with the Rev. Randy Beeman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. A memorial service is scheduled at a later date in Salida, along the Arkansas River.
Visitation hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sam Frazer Education Fund, in care of the mortuary or The People's Bank of Pratt.
Sendy Muneton
Rosary for Sendy Muneton, 23, of Garden City, will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Funeral will take place later in Tetillas, Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico, with burial in Cemetery
Calvarios in Tetillas.
She died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
Born March 9, 1978, at Tetillas, she was the daughter of Pablo and Maria De La Luz (Escobedo) Muneton.
Miss Muneton had worked at La Playa Azul. She attended the Adult Learning Center and St. Mary Catholic Church.
She is survived by her parents, two brothers, Rosendio and Julian Muneton, and a sister, Myda Muneton, all of the home; and several uncles and aunts.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Isadore A. "Izzy" Salm
CIMARRON - Funeral for Isadore A. "Izzy" Salm, 78, of Dodge City, was 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with Anthony Lyons officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
Mr. Salm died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Western Plains Regional Hospital in Dodge City.
He was born June 15, 1923, at Cimarron, the son of Henry J. and Margaret (Burkhart) Salm. He graduated from Cimarron High School and attended the University of Kansas.
Mr. Salm was employed at a lumber yard in Cimarron before working for KGNO Radio for 42 years as an announcer, sales manager and general manager. After retiring, he worked at Ace Hardware.
He was a past president of the Dodge City Cowboy Band and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis and Dodge City Centennial Committee, all at Dodge City, and the Kansas Association of Broadcasters advisory board. He played in many local bands, including Rhythm Aces Band, Cliff Hawley Band, Freddie Esquibel Band, Irma Johnson Band, St. Mary's Area Band, Cimarron High School Band and Cimarron Coronet Trio.
On Jan. 8, 1945, he married Marjory Sydenstricker. She died Dec. 8, 1999.
He is survived by four sons, Bob, Richard and Glenn, all of Dodge City, and David, Los Lunas, N.M.; two daughters, Beth Watson, Topeka, and Martha Kenton, Dodge City; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Dodge City Cowboy Band, in care of the funeral home.
