Amy McCombs Roquemore

Amy McCombs Roquemore, 86, a former southwest Kansas resident, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Corpus Christi, Texas.

She was born July 20, 1915, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of J.S. and Louise (Gillespie) McCombs.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at All Saint's Episcopal Church, Corpus Christi.

Memorials are suggested to the American Red Cross or the donor's choice, both in care of Seaside Funeral Home, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, TX 78412.

Vera E. Williams

SCOTT CITY - Vera E. Williams, 87, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at her home in Scott City.

She was born Sept. 3, 1914, at Saffordville, the daughter of Walter R. and Rosa May (Hayward) Crook.

A Scott City resident since 1948, moving from Wichita, she was an elementary school teacher in Scott City until her retirement in 1980.

Mrs. Williams was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, American Legion No. 183 and Order of the Eastern Star, all at Scott City, and was a lifetime member of the National Education Association.

On March 18, 1939, she married Daniel Vernon Williams at Reading. He survives. Other survivors are a daughter, Sandra Thompson, Denver; a granddaughter; three grandsons; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Helen Larson; and four brothers, John, George, Charles and Albert Crook.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Mike McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Vera E. Williams Memorial Fund, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.

Salvador P. Rodriquez

Vigil service for Salvador P. Rodriquez, 79, of Dodge City, will be 7 p.m. Friday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral, Dodge City, with the Rev. Ted Skalsky officiating. Military services will be conducted by Howard Gotschall VFW Post No. 1714.

Mr. Rodriquez died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born Dec. 4, 1922, at Dodge City, the son of Cayetano and Rafaela (Padilla) Rodriquez, and attended Roosevelt School.

He joined the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the European Theater, earning the Bronze Star.

Mr. Rodriquez worked for Fairmont Dairy, the A.T. Santa Fe Railroad and the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in 1982. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

On Dec. 27, 1942, he married Rosella Sanchez at Dodge City. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Manuel, Riverside, Calif., Nick and Richard, both of Dodge City; five brothers, E.P. Rodriquez, Dodge City, Cecil Rodriquez, Nickerson, Ganzalo Rodriquez, Kansas City, David Rodriquez, Glenwood, Ill., and Maurice Rodriquez, San Bernadino, Calif.; three sisters, Nina Rodriquez, Garden City, Mary Cervantes, Sacramento, Calif., and Rita Gomez, Dodge City; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Irene Garcia.

Cremation is planned. Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Purdue House, both in care of the funeral home.

Larry Burns

LAKIN - Funeral for Larry Burns, 31, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wesleyan Church, Lakin, with the Rev. Frank Salinas officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.

Mr. Burns died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Aug. 11, 1970, at Ulysses, the son of George and Karen (Sauer) Burns, and attended Lakin schools. During his school years, he played on the Kenneth Henderson Middle School football team in Garden City and was on the Lakin High School rodeo team.

Mr. Burns had worked as a feedlot cowboy and farmer before becoming a truck driver for Golden Grain Enterprises of Lakin. He was a member of the Syracuse Saddle Club, Lakin Saddle Club and Lakin Gun Club. He enjoyed helping at rodeos, working with horses and roping, searching for and collecting arrowheads, hunting, and spending time with his eight nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his parents, Lakin; a brother, Brett Burns, Scott City; a sister, Tanya Carter, Dighton; and his grandmothers, Virginia Salem, Lakin, and Geraldine Sauer, Ulysses. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Edna Burns, and George Sauer.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials to the Larry Burns Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Ione F. Dunn

SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Ione F. Dunn, 76, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of Christ, Scott City, with Cody Damron officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mrs. Dunn died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

She was born Aug. 2, 1925, at Cambridge, the daughter of Leo L. and C. Adeline (Overturf) Sevier. She graduated from Emporia State University with a master's degree and a taught school in the Wichita school district until her retirement.

A Scott City resident since September 1998, moving from Wichita, she was a member of Church Of Christ at Scott City, FCE at Wichita, and the Kansas National Education Association.

On Dec. 24, 1944, she married Robert L. Dunn at Wonsevu. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Eddie L. Dunn, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Daniel R. Dunn, Scott City; a daughter, Renee E. Ebel, Parker, Colo.; a sister, Lorene Conklin, Greensburg; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Burton R. Lisk

Burton R. Lisk, 78, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

He was born Jan. 4, 1923, at Vernon, Conn., the son of Benjamin and Emma (Menzel) Lisk.

He served in the Army Air Corp., as a flight engineer during World War II, serving in the China, Burma and India Theatre.

On Oct. 31, 1946, he married Ruth Coe at Bridgeport, Conn. They lived in Vernon until moving to Loveland, Colo., in 1985. In 1993, they moved to Garden City. Mr. Lisk worked as a life insurance agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1983. He was also a Certified Life Underwriter.

Mr. Lisk was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Harry H. Renick Post No. 9, both at Garden City, Masonic Lodge No. 50 at Loveland and Fayette Masonic Lodge No. 69 in Connecticut, and was a former member of First Congregational Church and American Legion No. 15, both at Loveland. He enjoyed watercolor painting, fly fishing, reading and gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Martha Lisk, of the home; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Coe, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. David Sweley officiating.

There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Heart Association, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh St.

Ruby Minnie Unruh

COPELAND - Ruby Minnie Unruh, 74, a former Copeland resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at North Valley Hospital in Tonasket, Wash.

She was born April 27, 1927, at Lansing, Mich., the daughter of Sam L. and Katherine B. (Mininger) Fricke.

She moved to this area when she was young. A homemaker, she was a member of Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Copeland.

On Jan. 28, 1945, she married Cecil Unruh at Cimarron. He survives. She is also survived by four sons, Galen Unruh, Galva, Stanley Unruh, Sedan, N.M., Steve and Richard Unruh, both of Copeland; a daughter, Jolene Koehn, Texline, Texas; two brothers, Sam L. Fricke Jr., Ontario, Calif., and Obed Maynard Fricke, Montezuma; six sisters, Annabel Smith, Salem, Ore., Gertrude J. Unruh, Copeland, Mary Friesen, Cumberland, Wis., Johanna Schmidt, El Campo, Texas, Helen Koehn, Ingalls, and Clara Koehn, Montezuma; 24 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Ruth Friesen.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland. Wayne Amoth, Sam Unruh and Verle Yost, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Mennonite Cemetery, Copeland.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Montezuma Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Salem Valley Christian School at Copeland, in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
