Humberto Pena
DEERFIELD - Humberto Pena, 27, of Deerfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident north of County Road near Deerfield.
He was born March 20, 1974, at La Cienega De Ahumadas, Jalisco, Mexico, the son of Jose Concepcion and Francisca Pena (Ibarra) Pena.
A Deerfield resident since April 2001, moving from California, he was employed at Dairy Oz.
Survivors include his parents, Jalisco; several brothers and sisters, all of Mexico; as well as an aunt, uncles, nephews and nieces.
Funeral and burial is planned at a later date in La Cienega Ahumadas.
There will be no visitation. Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, is in charge of arrangements.
Moses R. Torres
TRIBUNE - Moses R. Torres, 24, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Greeley County.
He was born Dec. 10, 1977, at Leoti, the son of Ernest J. and Josephine (Rubio) Torres.
A Tribune resident since 1998, he was a construction contractor and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Tribune Bowling League and the VFW.
On Feb. 14, 2001, he married Skyler Olson at Tribune. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Sebastian Zane Torres, of the home; his parents, Leoti; two brothers, Ernest Torres Jr., Aurora, Colo., and Isaac, Leoti; three sisters, Glenda Ledesma, Austin, Texas, Alicia Torres, Commerce City, Colo., and Elizabeth Torres, Lakewood, Colo.; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lionicio Torres, Leoti.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. CST Monday at Christ Covenant Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Dave Brogren officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials to the Sebastian Z. Torres Education Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Esther Tuxhorn
LEOTI - Funeral for Esther Tuxhorn, 76, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Melvin Walton officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Tuxhorn died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at Hospice Residential Care Center in Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 31, 1925, at Ransom, the daughter of J.H. and Eva E. (Kraft) Stricker. She graduated from Ransom High School and Salt City Business School.
A resident of the Hutchinson and Partridge area since 1943, she was a retired parts manager with Consolidated Manufacturing. She was a member of First Christian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Joleen Mickelsen, Idaho Falls, Idaho; a stepson, Larry Tuxhorn, Emporia; a stepdaughter, Jean Tuxhorn, Hutchinson; a brother, David Stricker, WaKeeney; a sister, Mary Marcy, Leoti; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church or Hospice of Reno County, in care of the mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Victor A. Vsetecka
SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Victor A. Vsetecka, 69, of Great Bend, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith Community Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. Fred Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.
Mr. Vsetecka died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus, Great Bend.
He was born Oct. 16, 1932, at Ash Valley, the son of Emil F. and Amelia M. (Zaboj) Vsetecka.
A Great Bend resident for 30 years, he was an electrician for Vic's Electric, Great Bend. He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service.
Mr. Vsetecka was a member of the VFW, Eagles Lodge and American Legion, all at Great Bend, and the Air Force Sergeants Association.
On Oct. 14, 1954, he married Delores Ann Tuzicka at Loretto. She survives. He is also survived by a son, John, Great Bend; four brothers, Joseph, WaKeeney, William, Hutchinson, B.F., Scott City, and Leonard, Brunswick, Ga.; and a sister, Helen Suchy, Great Bend. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Emil and Edward.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to the DAV or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.
Elsie F. Kruse
Elsie F. Kruse, 94, formerly of Garden City, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Trinity Manor Nursing Home in Dodge City.
She was born Aug. 22, 1907, at Dorchester, Neb., the daughter of John "Ben" and Margaret S. (Sehnert) Oetken.
Mrs. Kruse had been a Dodge City resident since November 2000, moving from Garden City where she had lived since moving from Las Vegas in 1994. She was the owner and operator of the Women's Fashion House in West Chicago, Ill.
She was a member of the Religious Science Church and was a past treasurer for the Friendship Club, both at Las Vegas, and was a past matron of the Henrietta Chapter No. 162 Order of the Eastern Star of West Chicago.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Darr, Las Vegas; a sister, Lou (Golightly) Spadafore, Mayer, Ariz.; and a grandson.
A memorial service is planned for a later date. Inurnment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
There will be no visitation. Memorials to the Elsie Kruse Memorial Fund may be sent in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.
Pearl L. Plank
HUGOTON - Funeral for Pearl L. Plank, 92, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bethel Friends Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Eric Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Hugoton.
Mrs. Plank died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton.
She was born March 9, 1909, at Lyons, the daughter of Fred E. and Margaret E. (Klinefelter) Babcock.
A homemaker, she was a member of Bethel Friends Church, Gideons Auxiliary and EHU of Coldwater. She enjoyed quilting.
On June 18, 1930, she married Marvin D. Plank at her parent's home in Lyons. He died April 6, 1996. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Byron and Henry Babcock; two sisters, Elizabeth Bratton and Margaret Cool; a nephew; a niece; and a grandchild.
Survivors include a son, John Plank, Hugoton; four daughters, Ellen Winters, Guymon, Okla., Dorothy Burkhall, Coldwater, Barbara Hecht, Newton, and Phyllis Kinser, Ulysses; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one nephew.

Kathryn Nottingham
SCOTT CITY - Graveside service for Kathryn Nottingham, 86, a former Scott City resident, was to be 1 p.m. today in Sunset Cemetery, Coos Bay, Ore.
She died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at a nursing home in Boise, Idaho.
She was born March 4, 1915, at Oso, Wash. Her family moved to Montana where, in 1924 after her mother and father died, she was adopted into the family of Nelle and Ralph Beach. When the Beach family moved from Montana to western Kansas, she went to cosmetology school in Wichita.
After her schooling, she became a beauty operator in Scott City. She later moved to North Bend, Ore., where she owned and operated the Shangrila Beauty Shop. Later, she moved to Boise to be with her nieces.
She married Wayne Crowl and they had a son, Leon.
In addition to her son, she is survived by a sister, Mildred Corn of Garden City, and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sisters.
