Beulah Anna Gardner
Vigil service for Beulah Anna Gardner, 94, of Porterville, Calif., will be 5 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Gardner died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, in Porterville.
She was born Sept. 5, 1907, at Castleton, the daughter of George and Mae Bergkamp.
On April 9, 1929, she married Dr. Arlie B. Gardner at Garden City. They lived in Garden City until moving to Porterville in 1956. He died April 26, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Oscar Bergkamp; a grandson, Nick Rome; and a son-in-law, Pete Rome.
A homemaker, Mrs. Gardner enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church at Porterville and volunteered at the Porterville Developmental Center.
She is survived by two daughters, Beulah Jean Hays, Porterville, and Patricia Rome, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary School, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Wilma R. Urbanek
Wilma R. Urbanek, 75, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at her home in Topeka.
She was born Dec. 3, 1925, at Garden City, the daughter of Luther and Marnie (Moore) Largent. She attended and graduated from school in Garden City.
Mrs. Urbanek had worked for Ed Marling Stores for 28 years, retiring March 31, 1989. She was an active volunteer for the Kansas Historical Society, Treasures of The Czars, St. Francis Hospital's Gift Shop and The Discovery Shop, was an officer and committee member in the Topeka Christian Women's Club, was active in TPAC and belonged to First Southern Baptist Church. She enjoyed exploring the world through her reading, and traveling with her sister and friends after her retirement.
On Nov. 24, 1948, she married Frank D. Urbanek at Lincoln, Neb. He survives. She is also survived by three daughters, Joan E. Scripter, Albuquerque, N.M., Karen Urbanek Gibbs, Piedmont, Calif., and Denise K. Urbanek, Topeka; a son, Rod D. Urbanek, Westland, Mich.; two sisters, Jean Fitzgerald, Wheatridge, Colo., and Fae Critchlow, Las Vegas; a brother, L.M. Largent, Garden City; and a granddaughter.
Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka. Cremation is planned.

Patrick Alan Patterson
Patrick Alan Patterson, 41, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at his home in Marietta, Ga.
Born in Garden City on Oct. 28, 1960, he was the son of John William and Johanna Katherine (Meier) Patterson. He grew up in Garden City, attended grade school in Ingalls, and attended Garden City High School. After moving to Dodge City, he attended Dodge City Area Technical Center.
In 1987, he moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., to attend school to work as a Harley Davidson motorcycle repair technician and a Marine engine repair technician. In the early 1990s, he moved to Atlanta where he worked as an auto body repair technician. He had recently moved to Marietta.
Mr. Patterson was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. He enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his parents, Garden City; a brother, Michael A. Patterson, Maple Hill; five sisters, Constance A. Ginest and Victoria J. Jones, both of Hutchinson, Paula M. Kinkade, Garden City, Kathleen E. Herschberger, Arvada, Colo., and Johnita M. Patterson, Mahaska; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John William Patterson Jr. and Charles Andrew Patterson.
Vigil service and rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Heloise Jenilee Fehrenbach
CIMARRON - Funeral for Heloise Jenilee Fehrenbach, 87, of Dodge City, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with the Rev. Jo Clipson officiating. Burial will be in Silent Land Cemetery, north of Spearville.
Mrs. Fehrenbach died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center in Dodge City.
She was born Nov. 22, 1913, at Stafford, the daughter of David H. and Lulu (McMillian) Johnson. She attended Jetmore High School.
A longtime resident of Hodgeman County, formerly of Brawley, Calif., she was a homemaker. She was a member of Jetmore Presbyterian Church and the Sew and Sew Club at Jetmore.
On Feb. 17, 1930, she married John B. Fehrenbach at Garden City. He died May 16, 1974. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Bernard, Kenneth and John; two daughters, Mary Fehrenbach and Marilyn Sue Maltbee; two sisters, Erma Owens and Veryl Johnson; a brother, Ralph Johnson; and a grandson, Charlie Burge.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Warkentin, Victorville, Calif.; two sisters, Ruth Phipps, Cimarron, and Lois Hill, Brawley; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Center or the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, both in care of the funeral home.
Robert Neil Nagel
ULYSSES - Funeral for Robert Neil Nagel, 61, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Dennis Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.
Mr. Nagel died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Sept. 28, 1940, at LaCrosse, the son of Elmer and Gertrude (Kahler) Nagel. He grew up on a farm north of LaCrosse. After graduating from LaCrosse High School in 1958, he graduated from Fort Hays State University.
Mr. Nagel worked for LaCrosse Lumber and Belknap Hardware Co., and had been employed by Pioneer Communications for the past 34 years, working as bookkeeper, office manager, and director of settlements and tariffs. He also directed the long-distance department and supervised the directory publishing department.
A Ulysses resident since 1968, he served as a board member for the Home Products Committee, Grant County Recreation, Western Prairie Care Home and Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital, and was treasurer of Grace Lutheran Church of Ulysses and the Ulysses Lions Club. He was the founder of TASK, an organization for telephone company accountants, and served on committees in OPASTCO and SITA, the national and state organizations for rural independent telephone companies. He enjoyed working with stained glass, woodworking, traveling, sports, and spending time with his family and friends.
On Aug. 21, 1966, he married Sharon Eilrich at Hays. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Cory, Ulysses, and Shawn, Bemidji, Minn.; a grandson; a sister, Connie Walters of Catherine; three nephews, and several cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Zoie B. Gates
LEOTI - Funeral for Zoie B. Gates, 2, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church, Anthony, with the Rev. John Schnelle officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Anthony.
Zoie died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Anthony.
She was born March 18, 1999, at Leoti, the daughter of Jay and Britt (Hedlund) Gates.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Chris Hedlund and Janie Hedlund, both of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Rex Gates and Janie Gates, both of Anthony; her great-grandparents, Hal and Zoa Hedlund, Montezuma; and her great-great-grandmother, Izel Dunning of Anthony.
Memorials are suggested to the Anthony Christian Church Youth Group, in care of Elliott Mortuary, Anthony.
Agnes Elaine Newcomer
Funeral for Agnes Elaine Newcomer, 69, of WaKeeney, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, WaKeeney, with the Rev. Donald Pfannenstiel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Newcomer died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001.
She was born Sept. 17, 1932, in rural Trego County, the daughter of Prudentius J. and Barbara (Windholz) Denning. She attended Pleasant Ridge School in rural Trego County and was a 1950 graduate of Trego Community High School.
A homemaker, Mrs. Newcomer was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Altar Society and parish council. She also belonged to Eta Nu Sorority and Eagles Auxiliary.
On Sept. 25, 1950, she married Duane Newcomer. He survives. She is also survived by six sons, David D., Haven, Randy M., Tulsa, Okla., Keevin C. and Steven K., both of WaKeeney, Brian J., St. Louis, and Eric J., San Antonio; a daughter, Sandra L. French, Salina; four brothers, Joseph Denning, Hill City, Louis Denning, Tooele, Utah, Leonard Denning, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Francis Denning, Blackwell, Okla.; two sisters, Evelyn Denning, Denver, and Ann Henrietta Littlechild, Garden City; 25 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and a niece, Kathy Fleury, Garden City. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Denning and Clara Schoenberger; and four brothers, Wilfred, Marcellus, Edmond and Martin Denning.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight with a prayer service and rosary at 7 tonight at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Trego County chapter of the American Cancer Society.
