Valeria M. Estes
Valeria M. Estes, 88, of Stafford, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Leisure Homestead in Stafford.
She was born Oct. 1, 1913, at St. John, the daughter of William and Hettie Fry.
A homemaker, she was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Garden City.
Survivors include a son, Donald Sligar, Garden City; a stepson, Lloyd Estes, St. John; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Her first husband, Howard Sligar, died on July 14, 1945. Her second husband, Orvin Lloyd Estes whom she married on April 14, 1947, died on Jan. 14, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Minnis Chapel Inc., St. John, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church of Garden City, in care of the chapel.
Stanley R. Packer
HUGOTON - Funeral for Stanley R. Packer, 60, of Milford and formerly of Hugoton, was to be 10 this morning at Johnson Funeral Chapel, Junction City, with the Rev. Dr. Bert Buurman officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Ballard Cemetery
at Bernice, Okla.
Mr. Packer died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City.
He was born Dec. 29, 1940, at Liberal, the son of Robert and Edna (Brown) Packer. He attended one year of college in Panhandle, Okla., and one year of business college.
In 1970, Mr. Packer moved from Hugoton to Bernice, where he was the owner and operator of the Bernice Point Resort for 14 years. He then was the owner and operator of Riverside Amoco & Muffler Mart, and Stan's Amoco.
He was a member of the Grand Lake Association in Oklahoma and the Morning Optimist Club and a former member of the CVB Board.
On April 15, 1961, he married Barbara Dolecek at Ellsworth. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Mike Packer, Junction City; two daughters, Vicki Link, Webb City, Mo., and Pamela Foster, Miami, Okla.; his mother, Shattuck, Okla.; two sisters, Carole Love, Laverne, Okla., and Kathryn Cobourn, Tulsa, Okla.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
Nellie D. Hall
Funeral for Nellie D. Hall, 90, will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Dave Sweley officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Hall died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Dec. 30, 1910, at Windom, the daughter of William A. and Rhoda E. (Myers) Krebbs.
A Garden City resident since 1942, moving from Abilene, she had been a secretary at Fansler Tires and later with the school district, both in Garden City.
Mrs. Hall was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Church Women's Association, the Senior Center of Finney County, the Finney County Historical Society and was a lifetime member of the Friends of the Lee Richardson Zoo. She was a volunteer for the Belles of St. Catherine, held membership in the Finney County Republican Women's Association and in the Cultura Study Club, all at Garden City.
On May 21, 1932, she married Henry Edwin Hall at Hutchinson. He survives. She is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Krebbs, McPherson; four nephews; and a number of close friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Marvin and Howard Krebbs; a sister, Jennie Jennings; and two nephews.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Marcella B. Vermes
ULYSSES - Marcella B. Vermes, 84, of Ulysses, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born July 14, 1917, near Lake Superior, Wis., the daughter of George and Flosie Welch.
A Ulysses resident since 1989, she was a retired civil employee of the U.S. government having worked as a management analyst. She had earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois.
Mrs. Vermes was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Ulysses Chapter No. 471 of Order of the Eastern Star.
On Sept. 28, 1943, she married Edward Daniel Vermes at Pleasant Hill, Ohio. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Edward D. Vermes Jr., La Crosse, Wis., and Joseph Robert Vermes, Annapolis, Md.; a daughter, Martha Hamilton, Florida; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Flosie.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.

Roy Eldon ”Tub’ May
MOSCOW - Graveside service for Roy Eldon ”Tub’ May, 71, of Moscow, will be 2 p.m. Friday in Moscow Cemetery, with the Revs. Larry Bradford and Bill Ripley officiating.
Mr. May died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita.
He was born July 30, 1930, at Moscow, the son of Roy and Bessie (Stevens) May.
A lifetime resident of the Moscow community, he was a retired farmer. He belonged to the United Methodist Church of Moscow.
On Dec. 21, 1957, he married Shirley Davis at Liberal. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Davis, Doug and Daryl May, all of Moscow; two daughters, Sheila Snyder, Moscow, and Sharlene May, Ulysses; a sister, Cleo Barton, Great Bend; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Shari May; and four sisters, Lila, Vera Turner, Madge Leonard and Maxine May.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to the Emphysema Fund, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
Cecil Lorimor
SCOTT CITY - Cecil Lorimor, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
He was born May 16, 1918, at Calvert, the son of Roy Earl and Amy Cecil (Bieber) Lorimor.
Mr. Lorimor had been a resident of Scott City since 1968, moving from Norton, and had worked at several jobs including as building inspector in Scott City for 10 years. He helped start Barber Sheet Metal where he worked with heating and air conditioning for many years.
He was a member of VFW Lodge No. 7773 and American Legion Post No. 183, both at Scott City. A veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, having served in the Navy, Air Force and Army, he was a master sergeant with many decorations.
On Oct. 15, 1945, he married Ritsuko Ito in Tokyo. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, James F. Lorimor, Dighton, Gary J. Lorimor, Norton, and John C. Lorimor, Rose Hill; two nephews, including Raymond Griswold of Scott City; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Janet L. Lorimor.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, with the Rev. Lynne Smith officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Norton Cemetery.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.
Duane ”Smoky’ Moore
Duane ”Smoky’ Moore, 84, of Mullinville, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge.
He was born May 13, 1917, at Coldwater, the son of adoptive parents Clyde and Lydia Moore. A longtime area resident, he was a ranch hand.
He is survived by a son, Donald, Mullinville; and two daughters, Frances Young, Lakin, and Patricia McClery, Ulysses.
There will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Fort Dodge Soldiers Home, in care of Minnis Mortuary, Bucklin.
