Vera E. Wilkerson
Funeral for Vera E. Wilkerson, 86, of Garden City, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Manter Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Seuser officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilkerson died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Stanton County, the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Henry) Conard. She grew up in Manter, attending rural schools in Stanton County and in Manter.
A homemaker, she also worked as a cook at the cafe in Manter until she was 81 years old. She moved to Garden City in 1996 and enjoyed crocheting, baking and animals.
In January 1931, she married Roy Wilkerson at Springfield, Colo. He died in January 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lydell Wilkerson; a granddaughter, Penny Combs; and three sisters.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Johnson, Johnson City, Dixie Black, Joplin, Mo., and Deborah "Lynn" Rodriquez, Garden City; two brothers, Frank Conard, Colorado City, Texas, and Bob Conard, Cassville, Mo.; a sister, Fern Burns, Lamar, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Vera E. Wilkerson Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
John Morton Anderson
Vigil service for John Morton Anderson, 77, will be 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. Cremation will follow the Mass, with a private family burial at a later date in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Anderson died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born July 20, 1924, at Clay Center, the son of Fred P. and Josephine H. (Pirotte) Anderson. He grew up in Clay Center.
After graduating from Clay Center High School in 1942, he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II from 1943 to 1946. After the service, he attended Emporia State University, graduating in 1949.
On May 26, 1949, he married Wilmetta Wilson at Sacred Heart Church in Emporia. They moved to Garden City in 1949.
Mr. Anderson taught school for two years and then sold insurance for a few years before working with Meschke's Men's and Boy's Wear, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Southwind Country Club. He enjoyed sports, golfing, singing, dancing and playing cards, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark and his wife, Lisa, Garden City, and Chris and his wife, Susan, Alpharetta, Ga.; a daughter, Sue Robson, and her husband, Pat of Abilene; two brothers, Wilfred I. Anderson, Tampa, Fla., and Bernard E. Anderson, Naperville, Ill.; two sisters, Helen L. Sweet, Garden City, and Sister Pia of Carmelite Monastery in San Diego; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert L. Anderson; and two sisters, Joann Anderson and Lucy A. Nelson.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St. Dominic Parish Center, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Raymon F. Fuller
HUGOTON - Funeral for former Hugoton resident Raymon F. Fuller, 71, of Liberal, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary Chapel, Liberal, with Bill Moore officiating. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.
Mr. Fuller died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Liberal Good Samaritan Center.
He was born Aug. 14, 1930, at Turkey, Texas, the son of John and Agnes Fuller. He attended schools in Canadian, Texas.
Mr. Fuller had been a resident of Liberal since 1960. He owned and operated Gulf Oil Station at Canadian for 11 years, owned and operated Liberal Laundry and Linen Service at Liberal, and later was a route salesperson for Admiral Linen Supply of Amarillo, Texas, for many years. After moving to Hugoton, he worked for Halliburton Energy Services and later worked for the Stevens County Road Department, retiring in 1992.
In 1951, he married Wanda Grant at Matador, Texas. He married Elsie R. Downs Riggens in 1982 at Liberal.
He is survived by three sons, Terry, Kinsley, Randy and Johnny, both of Turpin, Okla.; a daughter, Dana Parker, Elizabeth, Ind.; a brother, Donald, Canadian; a sister, Edna Perry, Ardmore, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 8 a.m. to service time Saturday at the mortuary.
Herman Brown
Graveside service for Herman Brown, 85, of Hollister, Mo., was to be 10 this morning in Bookwilders Cemetery, Knoxville, Tenn.
Mr. Brown, a former Garden City resident, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Point Lookout (Mo.) Village Care Center after a lengthy illness.
A retired vendor of Brownie Music & Vending, he had lived in Garden City before moving to Kansas City. He moved to Rockaway Beach, Mo., in 1994.
Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 2nd Ranger Division. During World War II, he parachuted over Normandy and was there more than 200 days. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Concord, Tenn., was a past governor and life member of the Moose Lodge of Garden City, and was a life member of American Legion Post No. 637 at Kimberling City, Mo., and the VFW of Garden City.
He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Scott, Branson West, Mo.; a brother, James Brown, Knoxville; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Adeline L. Wetmore
MONTEZUMA - Adeline L. Wetmore, 95, of Montezuma and formerly of Meade, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at Bethel Home Inc., Montezuma.
She was born May 26, 1906, at Durham, the daughter of Abraham E. and Lena (Becker) Unruh.
The family moved to Montezuma when she was young.
She attended schools in Durham and Montezuma, had been employed as a clerk for the postal service and worked in her father's grocery store in Montezuma.
On Aug. 9, 1938, she married Joseph Wetmore at Montezuma.
After their marriage, they moved to the Fowler community and lived on a farm for 25 years. After his death on March 29, 1995, she moved into Bethel Home.
Mrs. Wetmore was a member of Meade United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by a sister, Evelyn Latta, Montezuma; a sister-in-law, Goldie Unruh, Tucson, Ariz.; three nephews; two nieces; and three great-nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Archie, Walter and Irvin Unruh.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Montezuma Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Eshleman officiating.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Saturday, 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc. or Meade United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
Jeannette Havergal (Saunders) Jones
Johnson CITY - Graveside service for Jeannette Havergal (Saunders) Jones, 88, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Denver, will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann officiating.
Mrs. Jones, a homemaker, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, in Denver.
She was born July 24, 1913, at Stonington, Colo.
On Dec. 14, 1941, she married Justin Jones. He preceded her in death, as did a son, Thomas Paul Jones.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Kay Heffernan, Denver, and Cynthia Ann Reedy, Colorado Springs; four grandsons; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
