Helen Josephine Staples
HUGOTON - Funeral for Helen Josephine Staples, 85, of rural Guymon, Okla., will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hugoton. Keith Jarvis, president, will officiate. Additional services will take place in Bends, Ore.
Mrs. Staples died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at her daughter's home in Texas County, Okla.
She was born Feb. 11, 1916, in Newton County, Mo., the daughter of Samuel Marion and Minnie Lee (Erskin) Gillmore.
A homemaker, she enjoyed her family. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hugoton.
On Dec. 30, 1931, she married Joseph Ralph Johnson. They had four children. On Dec. 11, 1965, she married Kenneth Elwyn Staples. He died Jan. 29, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Samuel Glen Johnson; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Donald Johnson, Weslaco, Texas, and Robert Wayne Johnson, Paso Robles, Calif.; a daughter, Lila Jane Nelson, Guymon; 12 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.
Marie Rich
HUGOTON - Marie Rich, 76, of Hugoton, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Satanta Long Term Care Unit.
She was born Oct. 10, 1924, at Atchinson, the daughter of William and Maude (Farris) Jackson.
On Aug. 31, 1955, she married Howard Rich at Leavenworth. They moved from Atchinson to Hugoton in 1958. A homemaker, she helped many people in the Hugoton area. She was a member of Church of God and the Women of the Church of God, both at Hugoton.
Her husband died Oct. 30, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a twin sister, Elizabeth Williams; two nieces; and one nephew.
Survivors include two nieces, Dixie Ridgnal, Kansas City, Kan., and Carolyn Dunn, Denver; three nephews, Robert Lee, Linden, Neb., Eugene Lee and Harold Monday Jr., both of Kansas City, Mo.; and 24 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Church of God, Hugoton, with the Rev. Bill Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today through Friday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.
Elizabeth M. Hodson
Memorial service for Elizabeth M. Hodson, 87, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Garden Valley Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Steve Prieb officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, Calif., with the Rev. Kent Walkemeyer officiating.
Mrs. Hodson died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born June 22, 1914, at Los Angeles, the daughter of Joseph W. and Sarah (Rehrig) Holland.
A Garden City resident since July, moving from Whittier, she had been a secretary for many years with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., later working for Whittier College and then Bank of America.
Mrs. Hodson was a member of the East Whittier Friends Church of Whittier.
On Oct. 8, 1939, she married C. Hartley Hodson at Whittier. He died July 31, 1997, at Whittier. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Faye Hodson; a brother, William Holland; and a sister, Ethel Jones.
She is survived by a son, Richard Hodson, Garden City; a daughter, Sara Suzanne Hodson, Pasadena, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to East Whittier Friends Church, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.
Jewell Wilma Alexander
KENDALL - Graveside service for Jewell Wilma Alexander, 83, will be 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday in Kendall Cemetery, with the Rev. Linda Bolz officiating.
Mrs. Alexander died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at her home near Kendall.
She was born Oct. 26, 1917, at Welch, Okla., the daughter of Thomas Jefferson and Mollie Florence (Massey) Rogers.
After leaving Welch, she lived in Missouri before moving to Chickasha, Okla., where she married Roy "Elmer" Alexander on March 11, 1933. They moved to Kendall in 1933 where they owned and operated an auto repair garage. She also worked for the Hamilton County Hospital as a cook for 25 years before retiring.
Mrs. Alexander was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church, belonged to United Methodist Women for 15 years, and belonged to the Ladies Aid during World War II where she helped serve doughnuts to the servicemen at the Harvey House in Syracuse.
She loved animals, especially her dog, Missy, and enjoyed reading, working in her yard and garden, caring for her chickens, crocheting, knitting, sewing, fishing, collecting Avon plates and bells, and being with her family. She enjoyed cooking and was noted for baking special cherry pies.
Her husband died Feb. 15, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bun Rogers and William Rogers; and two sisters, Ruby Gill and Opal Rogers.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Elmer Alexander, Riviera, Texas; a daughter, Mona Rae Trussell, Kendall; two grandsons; three granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation hours are until 8 MDT tonight at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. Memorials are suggested to Hamilton County Hospital or Hamilton County Library, both in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878-1253.
Hannah M. Koehn
MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Hannah M. Koehn, 97, was to be 10:30 this morning at Montezuma Mennonite Church. Charles Schmidt and Bruce Dirks, ministers, were to officiate. Burial was to follow in North Mennonite Church Cemetery, Montezuma.
Mrs. Koehn died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at Bethel Home in Montezuma, where she had been a resident since 1981.
She was born Nov. 26, 1903, at Tampa in Marion County, the daughter of Isaac and Rachel (Koehn) Dirks.
A homemaker, she had been a resident of Gray County since 1925. She was a member of Church of God in Christ, Montezuma.
On Jan. 11, 1925, she married Dan P. Koehn at Tampa. He died March 30, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jake, Ervin and Gus Dirks; and three sisters, Mary Unruh, Leona Koehn and Irene Rhodes.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Mae Koehn, Montezuma; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tobias Dirks, Hillsboro, and Melvin Dirks, Lehigh; and a sister, Martha Unruh, Lehigh.

Bryan Lee Wilson
SATANTA - Funeral for Bryan Lee Wilson, 33, of Satanta, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bob Glasgow officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by the Air National Guard.
Mr. Wilson died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Haskell County.
He was born July 16, 1968, at Omaha, Neb., the son of Donald Lee and Charlene (Cadenhead) Wilson.
A Satanta resident since 1994, he worked for ExxonMobil Production as a maintenance and reliability system contact. He served in the U.S. Air Force, was a member of the Color Guard Team and currently was serving in the Air National Guard. He was a life member of the Wichita Air Guard Association "Jayhawk Club" at McConnell AFB Kansas.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Kansas, Ulysses Lodge No. 435, the Midian Temple of Wichita, Eastern Star No. 471 at Ulysses, First Baptist Church at North Pole, Alaska, and the Ulysses Gun Club. He enjoyed pets, playing golf, riding horses, roping, and hunting quail and pheasants.
On Sept. 23, 1989, he married Brandy D. McCauley at Ulysses. She survives. He is also survived by his parents, Fairfax, Okla.; his grandmother, Mary Cadenhead, Ponca City, Okla.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Betty McCauley, Satanta; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul Cadenhead, and Jim and Pairlee Wilson.
