Cleve E. Currier
Cleve E. Currier, 66, died Thursday Sept. 6, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital, Ulysses. He was born Dec. 28, 1934 in Deercreek, Okla.
He was the son of Everett Theodore and Amy Ethel (Sundgren) Currier.
On Dec. 29, 1957, he married Delores Bowers at Laverne, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons; Clifford and his wife Terri of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Lonnie and his wife Tami of El Dorado, one brother; Dale and his wife Elaine of Plains, two sisters; Ora Ann Walser and her husband Dave of Junction City, and Amy Matzen of Englewood, Colo.
Four grandchildren, Travis, Derek, Jake and Jessica, as well as several nieces and nephews also survive.
Currier was preceeded in death by his parents and one sister, Nina Whitehouse.
He graduated from Northwest Oklahoma State University, Alva, with a Master's of Education and Drivers Education.
He moved to Ulysses in 1962.
Currier taugh school in Seiling, Okla., and in Uylsses. He taught elementary physical education, drivers education and social studies. He was also coach for the Ulysses High School golf team, middle school football, baseball, basketball, track and wrestling teams for 32 years before retiring in May 1995.
Currier was a member of the Ulysses Mens Golf Association, Grant County Education and preisdent of the Junior High Teachers of Western Kansas. In 1985 he received the Outstanding Educator of Grant County Award and in 1995 he was awarded the Southwest Kansas Golden Apple Teacher's Award. He was also nominated for the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Kepley Middle School Gymnasium, Uylsses, with Rev. Bill Harrold presiding. Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemetary.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be given to the Cleve Currier Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, Kansas, 67880.
Mildred L. Evans
Mildred L. Evans, 81, Garden City, Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
Mrs. Evans was born on Nov. 4, 1919, at Trinidad, Colo., the daughter of George and Mary Catherine (Basdon) Abbott.
She married Harold A. Evans May 28, 1939, at Canon City, Colo.
Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church of Johnson and the Eagles Lodge of Garden City.
She graduated from Canon City High School. She and her husband lived in Johnson and Ulysses before moving to Garden CIty in 1966. She worked as a practical nurse for Dr. Frank Eichhorn for 37 years. She enjoyed all crafts, bowling and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include: her husband of the home; a son, Harold Leroy of Winfield; a daughter, Mary Kathryn Rose of Garden City; two grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral service. Memorials may be made to the Emmaus House in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Willa Dulin
SYRACUSE - Willa Dulin died Friday, Aug. 31, at Denver. A funeral service was to be today in Denver.
There will be a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. MST Sunday at The Syracuse United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Syracuse Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the Willa and John Dulin Organ Repair Fund in care of the United Methodist Church.
Jesse R. Koehn
MONTEZUMA - Jesse R. Koehn, 88, Montezuma, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born April 26, 1913, near Montezuma, the son of Ruben and Helena (Schmidt) Koehn. He married Mabel Jantz on Oct. 28, 1938.
He was a lifetime residen and farmer of the Montezuma Community. He was a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Montezuma.
Survivors include his wife Mabel of Montezuma; a son, Donald Koehn, Wichita; three daughters, Roseann Townsend, Dodge City, Janice Brathcer, Paris, Texas, and Glenda Toews, Montezuma; a brother, John Koehn, Montezuma; two sisters, May Curtis, Laurel, Md., and Susie Ayers, Olathe; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Vernie Koehn; three brothers, Harry, Otis and Ruben Koehn; two sisters Effie Koehn and Lizzie Jantz; and a son-in-law, Leonard Bratcher.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, Montezuma, with the Rev. Charles Schmidt presiding. Burial will be at North Mennonite Church Cemetery, Montezuma.
Montezuma Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Thomas R. Winger
Johnson - Thomas R. Winger, 77, Johnson, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.
Mr. Winger was born Oct. 24, 1923, at Syracuse, the son of Chas R. and Vivian DeEtta (Moore) Winger.
He was a farmer and instructor of automotive and diesel mechanics. He left the farm in 1964, and attented Denver Auto Tech to refine his mechanical skills. He was instrumental in starting the diesel mechanics classes at the Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyo. He also was a veteran of WWII and was involved in the reoccupation of the Philippines. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and loved the great Wyoming outdoors. He hunted and fished for many years.
Thomas married Mary Ellen Oshel in Dodge City in 1947. They divorced. In 1974, he married Agnes in Denver. They divorced.
Survivors include: two sons, Ron of Riverton, Wyo., and John of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Kathy Shaulis of Casper, Wyo.; a brother, Dick of Johnson; two sisters, June Glanz of Clarkston, Wash., and Helen May of Protection; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister and a son-in-law.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church, Johnson, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann officiating.

Theodore M. "Ted" Miller Jr.
HUGOTON - Theodore M. "Ted" Miller Jr., 76, Hugoton, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
He was born July 17, 1925, at Brockton, Mass., the son of Theodore Morton and Grace May (Clogston) Miller Sr. A resident of Hugoton since 1988, Ted was a graduate of University of Maine at Orono.
Mr. Miller worked for Lamb-Weston of American Falls, Idaho, before retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Hugoton, Gas Capitol Band, Hugoton and the Bikers Across America Club. He rode his bike across Kansas three different years. He also was involved as a volunteer with Hometown Hospice, and was a HAM radio operator.
On May 19, 1945, he married Margaret White. She preceded him in death. He then married June Darlene Howell on March 18, 1960, at Madison, Wis. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Richard of Belgieum, Charles of Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, and Albert Harold of Abilene, Texas; three daughters, Margaret Ann zephier of Hot Springs, S.D., Nan LaBrecque of Clinton, N.Y., and Molly Miller of Denver; two sisters, Mary Jane Fountain of Albany, Ore., and Anne Mitchell of Norton, Mass.; and six grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Jeff Aenk presiding. Family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to the Hometown Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main St., Hugoton, KS 67951.
