Kathy J. Guerra
Funeral for Kathy J. Guerra, 50, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Assembly of God Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Crossette officiating. Burial will be in Leoti Cemetery.
Mrs. Guerra died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born May 25, 1951, at Scott City, the daughter of Simon P. Jr. and Ruby E. (Turner) Korbe.
A homemaker, she had been a Garden City resident since 1999, moving from Leoti. She was a member of Assembly of God Church, Leoti.
In 1972 she married Henry Guerra at Leoti. They later divorced.
Survivors include two sons, Trenton and Jason Guerra, both of Leoti; and her father, Leoti. She was preceded in death by her mother and a daughter.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
Helen M. Keller
Funeral for Helen M. Keller, 92, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Charles Wagher officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Miss Keller died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born April 26, 1909, at Wichita, the daughter of Samuel Bert and Mary V. (McConahie) Keller.
She attended high school in Pierceville, spent two years at Fort Hays State University and later received her bachelor's degree from the University of Wyoming at Laramie. She taught elementary school in various locations for 42 years before retiring in the 1970s.
Miss Keller was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Cheyenne, Wyo., and enjoyed oil painting, reading and traveling. She was the founder of the A.D.K. Scholarship for girls pursuing a career in teaching.
She is survived by a sister, Ila Mae Rundell, Garden City; four nephews; and four nieces. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Keller; a sister, Georgia Parr; a nephew; and a great-niece.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Helen M. Keller Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Doris Yvetta King
Doris Yvetta King, 94, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born June 26, 1907, at Alamosa, Colo., the daughter of James M. and Stella M. (McGee) Vinton. When she was 3, the family moved to Grand Junction, Colo.
After graduating from Grand Junction High School, she moved to Garden City and was in the first graduating class of nurses at St. Catherine Nurses School in 1931. She worked many years as the Gray County Health Nurse and for Dr. Jackman while living in Gray County. She moved to Garden City in 1960 and continued to work in Gray County for several years before retiring.
Mrs. King was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, P.E.O. Chapter X, Finney County Historical Society and the Wednesday Afternoon Book Club. She enjoyed raising flowers and her family activities.
On Oct. 5, 1932, she married Gwynne Egbert at Cimarron. He died in 1960. She married Roy King on May 19, 1965, at Dodge City. He died July 6, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Janis K. Partin, Garden City; a sister, Avis Franklin, Roseville, Calif.; two grandsons; three great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to P.E.O. Chapter X or the Finney County Historical Society, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Joe D. McCall
Funeral for Joe D. McCall, 55, will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, with Dr. James McVicar officiating.
Mr. McCall died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Sept. 30, 1945, at Concordia, the son of Ralph and Frances Edith (Howell) McCall.
Mr. McCall lived in various places throughout his life before moving to Garden City in the late 1980s. He worked at several places but his favorite work was doing maintenance work at Presto Convenience Store in Garden City. He also enjoyed the Special Olympics, professional wrestling and walking. He received services from Summitt of Garden City.
He is survived by six brothers, Raymond, Hays, Glenn, Pioneer, Tenn., Clifford, Marlow, Okla., Robert, New Cambria, Dean and Albert, both of Concordia; three sisters, Ruth Ann Toehman, Concordia, Hazel Lavauch, Morgan City, La., and Edith May Chaput, Clyde; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy David McCall and Edward McCall; and his twin brother, James Carl McCall.

Janice Lynn Mathews
Janice Lynn Mathews, 54, of Dodge City, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
She was born March 28, 1947, at Garden City, the daughter of Robert and Cleo (Pittman) Mathews, and attended Garden City schools.
She lived in Haviland, Russell and Tribune before moving to Dodge City in 1992 and entering the Arrowhead West program. She worked in the workshop at Arrowhead West, and enjoyed helping with Meals on Wheels, embroidery, shopping and visiting with the elderly. She belonged to Pierceville Federated Church.
Survivors include her mother, Garden City; a brother, Robert D. Mathews, Pratt; and a sister, Judy Stanard, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Pierceville Federated Church, with the Rev. Charles Wagher officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Virgil Paul "Woody" Woods
Johnson CITY - Funeral for Virgil Paul "Woody" Woods, 71, was to be 3:30 p.m. today at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church, Johnson City, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann officiating. Burial was to follow in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.
Mr. Woods died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Johnson City.
He was born Dec. 28, 1929, at Carney, Okla., the son of August Arvil and Zelma Beatrice (Gould) Woods.
A Johnson City resident since 1979, he was self-employed as a certified welder in all fields. He was a member of Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed singing, playing the guitar as well as giving lessons to adults and children, and enjoyed fishing and camping.
On Dec. 19, 1948, he married Beatrice "Bea" Huffman at Winfield. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Matt P. Woods, Johnson City; three daughters, Sharon K. Dempewolf, Topeka, Marsha F. Brown, Pratt, and Patricia J. Davis, Dodge City; three brothers, Arvil Woods, Charles R. Stout and Ervin Stout, all of Ark City; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Dale Woods; two sisters, Leveana Kruse and Alene Kruse; and a grandson.

Jose G. Montana
ULYSSES - Military graveside service for Jose G. Montana, 90, of Ulysses, was to be 10:30 this morning in Ulysses Cemetery, with the Rev. Manuel Perez officiating.
Mr. Montana died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Western Prairie Care Home, Ulysses, where he had been a resident.
He was born Oct. 27, 1910, at Lubbock, Texas.
On June 23, 1969, he married Esther Fernandez at Lubbock. She died March 29, 1995.
A Ulysses resident since 1995, moving from Lubbock, he had worked as a security guard in Chicago and was a U.S. serviceman during World War II. He belonged to Spanish Baptist Church, Ulysses.
Mr. Montana raised three children, Ellis Lopez, Billy Flores and Hector Flores, and three grandchildren, Anna Marie Flores, Rosalinda Medellin and Abbeygale Flores.
