Brenda F. Morales
Vigil service for Brenda F. Morales, 56, will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Morales died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Sept. 26, 1944, at Huntsville, Ohio, the daughter of James Byron and Cora Alice (Daniels) McInnis.
A Garden City resident since 1959, moving from Ohio, she worked as a deli clerk at Dillons West. Following the death of her parents, she accepted the responsibility of raising five of her brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Morales was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
On Aug. 3, 1960, she married Joseph Morales at Garden City. He survives. Other survivors are two sons, Joseph "Tony" Morales and Chris Morales, both of Garden City; three daughters, Carol Bergstrom and Jennifer Ruvalcaba, both of Garden City, and Lela Atkinson, Newalla, Okla.; three brothers, Jim McInnis, Bob McInnis and Henry Espinoza, all of Garden City; six sisters, Helen Mesa, Holcomb, Elda Franco, Garden City, Alice Guillien, Amarillo, Texas, Robin Evans, North Bend, Neb., Marsha Sullivan, Coldwater, and Rhonda Weishapl, Hutchinson; and 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Arlene Soukup; two sisters, Marilyn and Rachel Espinoza; a brother, Ricardo Espinoza; and three grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Brenda Morales Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Temple Maxine Lehman
TRIBUNE - Funeral for Temple Maxine Lehman, 81, will be 2 p.m. MDT Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Tribune, with the Rev. Mark Randolph officiating. Burial will be in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.
Mrs. Lehman died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Greeley County Long Term Care Unit in Tribune.
She was born April 3, 1920, at Protection, the daughter of Edward L. and Anna M. (Kimes) Carter.
A Greeley County resident since 1947, she was the owner and operator of Maxine's Beauty Shop in Tribune, retiring in 1971. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
On July 8, 1939, she married Lawrence E. Lehman at Protection. He died Jan. 28, 1993, at Tribune. She was also preceded in death by a son, Lawrence E. Lehman Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Oscar Leon, Manitou Springs, Colo., and Ron Lee, Tribune; a daughter, Marilyn L. Angood, Pratt; nine grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune. Memorials are suggested to Greeley County Home Health Care or Greeley County Emergency Medical Technicians, both in care of the funeral home.
Lorena M. Ditus
Lorena M. Ditus, 78, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born Feb. 19, 1923, at Burdett, the daughter of George A. and Lena (Webster) Smith.
A homemaker, she had been a resident of Garden City since 1975, moving from Burdett. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Burdett, volunteered as a nurse' aide, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed card games and traveling, and was an avid bowler, having received several trophies and awards.
On July 5, 1941, she married Leon S. Ditus at Garfield. He survives. She is also survived by three sons, Doug L. Ditus, Elizabeth Colo., Greg S. Ditus, Fort Collins, Colo., and Fred G. Ditus, Eagle, Colo.; a daughter, Jeannie S. Ryan, Garden City; two brothers, Lewis Smith, Salina, and Robert Smith, Hays; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Hendershot; and a grandson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Burdett, with the Rev. Tony Horsley officiating. Burial will be in Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdett.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church in Burdett. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Lawrence Jay Lightcap
HUGOTON - Funeral for Lawrence Jay Lightcap, 67, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Revs. Jeff Aenk and Floyd Daharsh officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Olathe.
Mr. Lightcap died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
He was born Nov. 4, 1933, at Dodge City, the son of Harry Lester and Lela I. (Newby) Lightcap.
A lifetime Hugoton resident, he was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a member of First Christian Church, Hugoton, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
On June 15, 1958, he married Martha Louise Zimmerman at Olathe. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, David Jay Lightcap, Mountain Home, Ark., John Howard Lightcap, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Robert Wayne Lightcap, Kansas City; a daughter, Marilyn Kay Regehr, Wichita; a brother, William Lightcap, Newport Beach, Calif.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

V.H. Stevens
HUGOTON - V.H. Stevens, 78, a pipeliner and spray painter, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at his home in Hugoton.
He was born Feb. 18, 1923, at Hamlin, Texas, the son of Grover Cleveland Sr. and Gracie May (Harris) Stevens.
On March 20, 1946, he married Priscilla "Pat" Sparks at Roby, Texas. She survives. He is also survived by a foster son, Kelly R. Carson, Waynoka, Okla.; a granddaughter; and 12 nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jerry Lester Stevens, in 1991; and two brothers, J.D. Stevens and Grover Cleveland Stevens Jr.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, with the Rev. Gary Stafford officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday and 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested for the family or the donor's choice, both in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
Elizabeth Young
Funeral for Elizabeth Young, 92, of Stanton, Texas, and formerly of Fitzhugh, Okla., was to be 10 this morning at Fitzhugh United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Adams officiating. Burial was to be in East Hill, Roff.
Mrs. Young died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Martin County Hospital in Stanton.
She was born Oct. 23, 1908, west of Ada, near Pickett, Okla., the daughter of Jesse Hood and Nora (Cole) Bulloch. She graduated from Fitzhugh High School and attended Jones Chapel (the little red schoolhouse), of which her father was an organizer and builder.
A Stanton resident since 1997, moving from Fitzhugh, she was a homemaker and raised registered Lhasa Apso dogs. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Fitzhugh, being one of its oldest living members. She was a member of the Methodist Women's Society of Christian Service and was a former district officer.
Active in church and community affairs, she taught the Young Adult Sunday School class for many years at the church. She also belonged to the Fitzhugh Home Demonstration Club and was a former 4-H leader.
On Aug. 17, 1929, she married Leonard T. Young. He died Oct. 21, 1997, at Ada. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Jane Young; her parents; two brothers; and seven sisters.
Survivors include a son, Jerry H. Young, Tobias, Neb.; two daughters, Carol J. Ham, Garden City, and Robby Fay Tollison, Stanton; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Etnyre, Reno, Nev.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Fitzhugh.
Mary K. Gilbert
Funeral for Mary K. Gilbert, 87, of Seneca, was to be 2 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Seneca.
Mrs. Gilbert died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Abilene.
She was born Dec. 11, 1913, on a farm east of Billings, Okla., the daughter of Oswald B. and Katherine O. (James) Taylor. At an early age, she moved with her family to a farm at Pratt Center near Tonkawa, Okla.
She attended grade school at Pratt Center, graduated from University Preparatory School in Tonkawa in 1929, and attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College at Tonkawa and Phillips University in Enid, Okla., while teaching in rural schools near Tonkawa. In 1940, she graduated cum laude from Oklahoma A & M at Stillwater, Okla., where she also served as a dormitory counselor. Following graduation, she taught fifth grade in Blackwell, Okla., during the wartime oil boom. She later worked for Continental Oil Co. in Ponca City, Okla.
On May 29, 1944, she married Dr. J. Howard Gilbert at Tonkawa. While her husband served overseas as flight surgeon with air evacuation in the Army Air Corps, she taught school at Lamont, Okla. In 1946, following his discharge from the service, they moved to Seneca, where he practiced until 1982. He died March 1, 1991. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney and Frank Taylor; and a sister, Leta Walker.
Mrs. Gilbert returned to teaching with the Seneca school system in the late 1960s, initially as a substitute and later on a full-time basis. In July 1973, she was appointed the Seneca Municipal Court Judge, a position she filled until her retirement in 1996. She also served 10 years on the Kansas Municipal Court Manual Updating Committee.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and served on the church board. She was a member of the Kansas and American Medical Association auxiliaries and was a parliamentarian for the Kansas Medical Society Auxiliary for many years.
She also served on the Seneca Public School Board for many years including the period of unification as District No. 442. She was a co-chairman of the Nemaha County Bi-centennial Committee and was instrumental in starting the Nemaha County Training Center, KANZA Mental Health & Guidance Center, and the Nemaha County Historical Society.
Other memberships included the Seneca Women's Club, Chapter EH of the PEO, Heritage Club, Nemaha Valley Community Hospital Guild and the American Legion Auxiliary, all at Seneca.
She is survived by three sons, Dr. John H. Gilbert, a Garden City resident before moving to Topeka, Paul A. Gilbert, New York City, and Dr. Frank J. Gilbert, Salina; a sister, Ella Ligon, Oklahoma City; and six grandchildren.
