Mildred R. Denchfield
Graveside service for Mildred R. Denchfield, 91, a former Garden City resident, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City. Funeral was Monday at French Mortuary, Albuquerque, N.M., with the Rev. Stephen Halsted officiating.
Mrs. Denchfield died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001.
She had lived in Albuquerque for 19 years, having previously resided in Garden City from 1931 to 1982. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include three sons, Jerrold Denchfield, Albuquerque, Ronald Denchfield, Half Moon Bay, Calif., and Keith Denchfield, WaKeeney; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Bowers, Laverne, Okla., and Wanda Concannon, Albuquerque.
John E. Mayhill
SYRACUSE - John E. Mayhill, 71, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse.
He was born March 16, 1930, at Calhoun, Ill., the son of Elva and Alta Annie (Trinary) Mayhill. He grew up in Sailor Springs, Ill., where he attended schools.
He moved to the Syracuse area in 1948 and worked for Dick Spencer and also for the Kendall Co-op in 1949. He began working for the Santa Fe Railroad in 1950, working with the railroad as a welder until 1974 when he established Mayhill's Tree Service which he owned and operated.
Mr. Mayhill was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge at Syracuse, Elks Lodge at La Junta, Colo., and the Moose lodges at Garden City and Syracuse. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On Oct. 21, 1949, he married Lois N. Murphy at Syracuse. He married Linda Roybal on Aug. 19, 1967, at Syracuse. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, John E. Mayhill Jr., Albuquerque, N.M., and Ken Roybal, Syracuse; two daughters, Christie Davis, Benidji, Minn., and Janice Gormly, Gillette, Wyo.; a brother, Joe David Mayhill, Ingraham, Ill.; six sisters, Joan Siddens, Cisco, Ill., Mary Hinterscher of Ingraham, Donna Faith Fisher, Argenta, Ill., Marie Ewalt, Crane, Mo., Donna Kay Alexander, Riviera, Texas, and Linda Lou Swisher, Fairgrove, Mo.; three half brothers, Kenny Benson, Garden City, Gary Mayhill and Dennis Mayhill, both of Sterling, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Eddie Mayhill; and a sister, Francis Ratchel Lemons.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. MT Monday at Kendall United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Linda Bolz officiating. Burial will be in Kendall Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. CST Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice or the Mayhill Tree Fund at Valley State Bank in Syracuse, both in care of the funeral home, 508 N. Main St., Lakin, KS 67860.
George A. Winkler
LEOTI - George A. Winkler, 60, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Wichita County Hospital in Leoti.
He was born Aug. 20, 1941, at Karval, Colo., the son of Delbert A. and Inez (Yoder) Winkler.
A resident of Leoti since 1991, moving from Lamar, Colo., he was a heavy equipment operator. He belonged to the VFW at Leoti and was a U.S. Army veteran.
On March 17, 1966, he married Lilia Griego at Clayton, N.M. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Rudy Winkler, Savannah, Ga.; a daughter, Valerie Beascochea, Montrose, Colo.; a brother, Bill Winkler, Henderson, Nev.; four sisters, Phyllis May, La Junta, Colo., Leita Redfern, Bakersfield, Calif., Donna Martin, Lamona, Calif., and Mary Phillips, Glenn Pool, Okla.; and four granddaughters.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Leoti, with the Rev. Rick Just officiating. Inurnment will take place later.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Leoti Emergency Medical Technicians, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti.
Vada V. Laird
ULYSSES - Vada V. Laird, 88, of Ulysses, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born Nov. 25, 1912, at Haviland, the daughter of Frank Ernest and Julia Hannah (Davis) Vick.
A homemaker, she had lived in Ulysses since Oct. 24, 1949, moving from Liberal. She loved spending time with her family, was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ulysses, and was a former member of HDU and the Civic and Study Club at Ulysses.
On June 3, 1935, she married Joe W. Laird at Meade. He survives. She is also survived by four daughters, Roberta Garrett, Liberal, Betty Jo Reeves, Loveland, Colo., Sue Patten, Midland, Texas, and Jane Hewson, Garden City; a sister, Alma Ruth Myer, Woodburn, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John W. Laird; and four sisters, Rosie, Helen, Sylvia and Frankie.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Ulysses, with Dr. Max Clayton officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to Western Prairie Care Home of Ulysses, in care of the funeral home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Sylvia Marie Taylor
Graveside service for Sylvia Marie Taylor, 96, of Fort Scott, was to be 1 p.m. today in Deerfield (Mo.) Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve MacArthur officiating.
Mrs. Taylor died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at the Medicalodge of Fort Scott.
She was born Dec. 22, 1904, at Maple Grove, the daughter of Ira A. and Mettie (McCullough) Armstrong.
She married Jacob R. Meyers. He died Aug. 30, 1951. She married Russell M. Taylor in February 1955. They farmed in the West Liberty area and attended West Liberty United Methodist Church. He died Feb. 27, 1989. She was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Marilyn T. Saunders; her parents; two brothers, Ray Armstrong and Cecil Armstrong; and a sister, Edna Wolfe.
Survivors include a stepson, Vern Taylor, Salinas, Calif.; a stepson-in-law, Bill Saunders, Garden City; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the church or charity of the donor's choice, in care of Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., Fort Scott, KS 66701.
William Calton Lamberth
MONTEZUMA - William Calton Lamberth, 95, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Bethel Home in Montezuma.
He was born June 28, 1906, at Hutchinson, the son of Ralph and Lillian (Nelson) Lamberth.
On Dec. 6, 1928, he married Edith Agnes Hiser at Cimarron. They lived in Montezuma for several years, moved to Washington and then to California in 1942, and returned to Montezuma three years ago.
Mr. Lamberth worked as an electrician. He was a 55-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Grand Coulee, Wash., and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Polly Allen, Campbell, Calif.; a sister, Maxine Vanek, Hutchinson; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Skip and Billy Lamberth; two sisters, Vivian and Irene Lamberth; and three brothers, Vernon, Ralph and Harold Lamberth.
Masonic graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Friday in Fairview Cemetery, Montezuma, with the St. Bernard Masonic Lodge of Dodge City presiding.

Wade Alan Reynolds
COPELAND - Wade Alan Reynolds, 33, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born Aug. 1, 1968, at Dodge City, the son of Stanley A. and JoAnn (Trent) Reynolds. He grew up in Garden City, graduated from Garden City High School in 1986, and attended Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland.
Mr. Reynolds worked as a truck driver for several years. In 1995, he moved to Copeland and had been working as a truck mechanic for Hilker Trucking Co. in Cimarron.
He is survived by his fiancée, Brenda Kingston, Copeland; his parents, Garden City; and a sister, Christy A. Doyle, Holcomb.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Wade Reynolds Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
