Hilda Lee (Miner) Flynn
Graveside service for Hilda Lee (Miner) Flynn, 79, of Homer, Alaska, was Wednesday in Hickerson Cemetery, Homer.
Mrs. Flynn died Saturday, July 14, 2001, at South Peninsula Hospital Long Term Care in Homer.
She was born May 30, 1922, at Garden City, where she grew up. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder.
On Aug. 4, 1946, she married Donald E. Flynn and moved to Alaska where they were modern-day pioneers in hunting in the Alaska interior and commercial fishing in Cook's Inlet.
A homemaker, Mrs. Flynn especially loved cooking, gardening, and tending her greenhouse through the Alaska winters and summers. She enjoyed caring for her children and grandchildren and also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by a son, Oliver Donald Flynn of Homer; a daughter, Susan Lee Flynn, Parker, Colo.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Katherine Hart, Garden City. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years and two children, Sally Ruth Flynn Dillman and Mark Wesley Flynn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Leukemia Research Foundation, 820 Davis St., Suite 420, Evanston, IL 60201.
Homer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Leo A. Riggs
Funeral for Leo A. Riggs, 69, a former Garden City resident, was 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Anglican Church, Prairie Village.
Mr. Riggs died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at his home in Lenexa.
He was born Feb. 25, 1932, at Chicago, the son of LaVerne A. and Grace (Wasgaard) Riggs. He graduated from Iowa Writer's Workshop at the University of Iowa.
Mr. Riggs retired in 1998 as general manager of Inland Paperboard & Packaging's Kansas City and Garden City plants.
He was a member of Unity Lodge No. 48 A.F. & A.M. at St. Charles, Ill., Trinity Anglican Church and KC Metro 50 Plus Softball, where he played on the 1999 first-place 65-year-old division team. He was an avid genealogist, preparing to publish his research, which will be completed by his sister, Sandra, and his brother, Ted.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine, and son, Alex, of the home; a son, Tony, Garden City; a daughter, Julie DeCiuceis, Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Sandra J. Riggs, Amherst, Mass.; three brothers, John P. Riggs, Buffalo Grove, Ill., Dr. Thomas A. Riggs, Janesville, Wis., and Ted E. Riggs, Forest, Ohio; six nieces; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James A. Riggs; his first wife, Catherine; and three infant children.

Alice Vivian Tuttle
Alice Vivian Tuttle, 92, a former Garden City resident, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.
Born Dec. 29, 1908, at Jetmore, she was the daughter of Julius S. and Clara A. (Jackson) Glunt.
She taught elementary school in mostly rural one-room schools for almost 30 years, retiring in 1971, and was a 1981 Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame inductee. She had been a resident of North Newton since April 2000, moving from Garden City.
Mrs. Tuttle was a member of First Baptist Church of Garden City, Kansas Retired Teachers Association, Sunflower Retired Teachers Association, Business and Professional Women, the Unique Club, Progressive Readers Club, Christian Women's Club, and the Senior Center of Finney County.
On May 12, 1927, she married H. Russell Tuttle at Jetmore. He died Dec. 10, 1970, at Kalvesta. She was also preceded in death by four sons, Charles, Lloyd, Dale and Laverne Tuttle; a daughter, Carol Tuttle; a brother, Arthur Glunt; and a sister, Dessie Cossman.
She is survived by a son, Richard Tuttle, Garden City; three daughters, Vivian Ashcroft, Tulsa, Okla., Virginia Guffey, Conway, Ark., and Twila Henry, Hesston; a daughter-in-law; 21 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Jetmore, with the Rev. Cindy Mahnke officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Jetmore First Baptist Church or the Senior Center of Jetmore, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Jeronima "Henrietta" Pichardo
Vigil service for Jeronima "Henrietta" Pichardo, 85, of 606 Pershing Manor, will be 7 tonight at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. Graveside service will be 4 p.m. CST Friday in Holly (Colo.) Cemetery, with Monsignor William Doll officiating.
Mrs. Pichardo died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Sept. 30, 1915, at Rose Hill, the daughter of Francisco and Antonia (Medrano) Enriquez, and attended school in Rose Hill.
A Garden City resident since 1979, moving from Denver, she was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and the Altar Society, volunteered at Emmaus House, and enjoyed making quilts and afghans, crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her family.
On Nov. 10, 1962, she married Ramon Pichardo at Lamar, Colo. He died Jan. 22, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, two stepdaughters, two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include five sons, Luis Gonzales, Garden City, Martin Enriquez, Wichita, Leonardo Pichardo, Colorado Springs, Colo., Victor Pichardo, Anaheim, Calif., and Ramon Pichardo Jr., Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Irene Fernandez, Commerce City, Colo.; two sisters, Josephine Mesa and Felipa Enriquez, both of Garden City; 28 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Abelardo "Benny" Benavidez
ULYSSES - Rosary for Abelardo "Benny" Benavidez, 78, of Ulysses, will be 7 p.m. Friday at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ulysses. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Augustine Nguyen officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
Mr. Benavidez died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
He was born March 3, 1923, at San Benito, Texas, the son of Marcos and Maria (Falcon) Benavidez.
He had worked for Don Eddie Construction and for Tarbet Ready Mix and Construction.
Survivors include a son, Abelardo Benavidez Jr., El Paso, Texas; three daughters, Maria Palacios, El Paso, Connie Hernandez, Garden City, and Grace Rendon, Ulysses; three brothers, Marcos, Conrad and Pete Benavidez, and a sister, Aurora Benavidez, all of Watsonville, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Antonia Martinez Benavidez; a son, Reynaldo Benavidez; and six brothers and sisters.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Abelardo "Benny" Benavidez family, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Adrian Leigh Curry
Funeral for Adrian Leigh Curry, 22, of Hutchinson, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nickerson United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Linda Louderbach and Don Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson.
Mr. Curry died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, in Orleans, France.
He was born Sept. 27, 1978, at Garden City, the son of Richard Wayne and Mary Beth (Schreiber) Curry.
He attended Nickerson High School, graduated with honors from Interlochen (Mich.) School of Performing Arts, and attended Wichita State University. At the time of his death, he was a student at ESPEO University of Orleans.
He was a member of Nickerson United Methodist Church, the Hutchinson Symphony and the Wichita State University Symphony.
Survivors include his parents, Hutchinson; a sister, Chelsey Curry, Hutchinson; his grandparents, Audie and Marcy Curry, Hutchinson, Melvin and Deloris Schreiber of Nickerson, Charlie and Joy Anstatt, and Lynn Crist, all of Garden City.
