Ruth Saloga McDaniel
Graveside service for Ruth Saloga McDaniel, 92, of Garden City, will be 11 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Harold Wilcox officiating.
Mrs. McDaniel died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
Born April 10, 1909, at Middleton, Ohio, she was the daughter of John James and Edna (Koble) Anderson.
She had been a Garden City resident since 1993, moving from Pratt, where she had worked as a cook for the Pratt school district. She was a member of the Methodist faith, a former member of the Women's Bowling Association and the Senior Citizens Center, both at Pratt, and belonged to the Senior Center of Finney County.
On May 18, 1927, she married Emil Saloga at Hutchinson. He died March 26, 1962, at St. John. In 1972, she married Ross McDaniel at Alva, Okla. He died in 1982 at Miami, Okla. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Survivors include six sons, Gilbert, Hobbs, N.M., Darrell, Payson, Ariz., Eugene, Garden City, Marvin, Roosevelt, Utah, LeLand, Odessa, Texas, and Lawrence, Pratt; 26 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Center for Basic Cancer Research, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Frank Leslie Steele
ULYSSES - Funeral for Frank Leslie Steele, 48, of Ulysses, was 7 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses, with Joel Jarnagin officiating. Additional services are planned for later in Dover, Del.
Mr. Steele died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born March 2, 1953, at Clayton, Del., the son of Howard "Babe" Steele and June (Cook) Warrington.
A resident of Ulysses since November 2000, he was a pen rider for Grant County Feeders of Ulysses.
He is survived by his mother, Dover; a daughter, Rebecca Steele, Front Royal, Va.; a stepson, Andy Stubbs, Joppa, Md.; his girlfriend, Mary Gooden, and children, Karen, David and Doug Sherwood, all of Delaware; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
Warren Sandy Moon
HUGOTON - Warren Sandy Moon, 80, of Hugoton, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
He was born Sept. 24, 1920, at Hugoton, the son of Sandy and Rachel (Robinson) Moon. He attended Langston (Okla.) University.
A lifetime resident of Hugoton, he was in the U.S. Army Officers Candidate School during World War II and was released because of his father's death and the need to care for his brother and sisters.
Mr. Moon was an active member of First Christian Church of Hugoton, past president and a lifetime member of the Kiwanis Club, past president of the Stevens County Fair Board, and was active in civic organizations. He enjoyed his family and woodworking.
On June 19, 1949, he married Aletha Woods at Colorado Springs, Colo. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Lloyd W. Moon, Hugoton; two daughters, Rosemary Pillar, Columbus, and Sharon Reaves, Toms River, N.J.; a brother, Benjamin Moon, Kansas City, Mo.; five sisters, Lettitia Stewart, Lawton, Okla., Estella Thompson and Faye Jackson, both of Kansas City, Mo., Eva Garden, Cleveland, and Earnestine Alpough, Los Angeles; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and two brothers, Alonzo Moon and Minorlee Moon.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton.
Marguerite Alice Rooney
SATANTA - Funeral for Marguerite Alice Rooney, 104, of Satanta, will be 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Satanta, with the Rev. Jeff Miller officiating. Burial will be in Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta.
Mrs. Rooney died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Satanta District Hospital.
She was born July 14, 1897, at Beatty, the daughter of John Francis and Kate (McGrath) Rooney.
After marrying Harry Patrick Rooney on Dec. 29, 1917, at Denver, they moved to a farm four miles northwest of Satanta.
Mrs. Rooney had lived in the Satanta area for 85 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Satanta, Owaissa Federal Club and Satanta Chamber of Commerce, and was recently honored by the Order of the Eastern Star with a 75-year pin.
She is survived by a son, Archie Franklin Rooney, Satanta; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and five brothers, Ward, Burnell, Whit, George and Leslie.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette, and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Leo J. Carr
ULYSSES - Leo J. Carr, 87, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born Oct. 28, 1913, at Canadian, Texas, the son of Sam and Nellie (Guilliams) Carr.
On May 11, 1942, he married Wannie V. Wooton. She died Jan. 8, 1998.
Mr. Carr worked for El Paso Natural Gas for 32 years. He retired in Roswell, N.M., where he was an active member of West Alameda Church of Christ, serving many years as a deacon for that congregation. In 1998, he moved to Ulysses to live with his daughter.
During World War II, he was a sergeant in the 14th Major Transportation Division and operated in combat in the European Theater. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren the love of nature with many fishing trips.
He is survived by a brother, Gene Carr, Jal, N.M.; a daughter, Jan Lewis, Ulysses; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. MT Thursday at Memory Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery
in Roswell, under the supervision of West Alameda Church of Christ and with a military honor guard.

Bernice Elaine McVey
LAKIN - Funeral for Bernice Elaine McVey, 82, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Lakin, with the Rev. David Sweley officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Mrs. McVey died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
She was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Davis County, Iowa, the daughter of John Levi and Lydia Margaret (McVey) Brunk. She grew up in Savannah, Iowa, attended Davis County public schools, and later attended beauty school in Pueblo, Colo.
A Lakin resident since 1945, she worked as a beautician for 50 years as the owner and operator of Bernice's Beauty Shop. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lakin and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, golf, sewing, cooking for family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.
On June 8, 1945, she married Paul Edward McVey at Hutchinson. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Randy McVey, Garden City; two brothers, Vern Edson Brunk, Bloomfield, Iowa, and R.J. Brunk, Arkansas City; a sister, Agnes McVey, Lakin; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; four sisters, Golda Iowa Cole, Augie Mildred White, Imogene Brunk and Willma Ladean Cummings; and four brothers, Earl Brunk, Bernie Lee Brunk, William Earl Brunk and Willis Eugene Brunk.

Florence D. Studebaker
Funeral for Florence D. Studebaker, 91, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bible Christian Church, Garden City, with the Revs. Mark Ingmire and Ron Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Studebaker died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
Born Nov. 11, 1909, in Lyon County, she was the daughter of Daniel and Rosa (Brandt) Richard.
She had been a Garden City resident since 1988, moving from Elkhart, where she served as the head nurse with Morton County Hospital for many years.
Mrs. Studebaker was a member of Bible Christian Church and volunteered for the American Red Cross.
On June 9, 1935, she married Ray Studebaker at Elkhart. He died Oct. 2, 1998, at Garden City. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Evelyn Virgil; a grandson; a brother, Earl Richard; and a sister, Anna Schwindt.
Survivors include five sons, Rex R. Studebaker, Overland Park, Wayne E. Studebaker, Trinity, Fla., Ralph E. Studebaker, Fargo, N.D., William L. Studebaker, Liberal, and Ronald L. Studebaker, Fredericksburg, Va.; a daughter, Marjorie R. Studebaker, Garden City; a brother, George Richard, Emporia; a sister, Mabel Lauritsen, Auburn, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
