Ricardo Barragan
Vigil service for Ricardo Barragan, 4, will be 7 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by Spanish rosary. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Revs. James E. Baker and Carlos Garcia-Pena, S.J. officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Ricardo died Friday, June 1, 2001, from injuries suffered in a fire at his home at 2224 W. Kansas Ave., No. 3, in Garden City, which also took the lives of his sister, Gladys Magana; and two nephews, Saul David and Jesus Magana.
Born Sept. 28, 1996, at Garden City, he was the son of Emilio Barragan and Lidia Sotelo-Lopez. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed music and watching cartoons.
He is survived by his mother, of the home; his father, Milwaukee Wis.; a brother, Saul Sotelo-Lopez, of the home; his grandparents, Adelina Lopez, Garden City, Florentina Torres and Manuel Barragan, Jalisco, Mexico; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ruben Lopez.
Visitation hours are until 5 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Ricardo Barragan Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Marie Pickett
Vigil service and rosary for Marie Pickett, 84, will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Pickett died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born March 31, 1917, at Healdton, Okla., the daughter of James Harry and Maude (Jones) Mitchell. A Garden City resident since 1930, she graduated from Garden City High School and attended Camaroon Junior College in Lawton, Okla.
A homemaker, she also worked at J.M. McDonalds and later at Wheatfields on Main, retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Altar Society, the Newman Club, and the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, cooking, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
On Nov. 19, 1940, she married Wayne Pickett at Garden City. He died May 20, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mike Pickett; two brothers; a sister; and a grandchild.
Survivors include five sons, Tim and Tony, both of Garden City, Jim, Noble, Okla., Dan, Arizona, and Rick, Dodge City; seven daughters, Kathryn O'Donovan, Topeka, Roselee (formerly Shawn) Pickett, Tyler, Texas, Rita Sullivan, Denver, Colleen Cearley, Abilene, Carla Smith, Kansas City, Mo., Peggy Starr, Celina, Texas, and Kelley Coonce, Cary, N.C.; a sister-in-law; a niece; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St. Dominic School, in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
C. Gary Mammel
LEOTI - C. Gary Mammel, 53, died Thursday, May 31, 2001, in Denver.
He was born Dec. 1, 1947, at Ann Arbor, Mich., the son of Clayton Knowles and Eva Jeanne (Gorsuch) Mammel.
A Colorado resident since 1974, he had been president and chief executive officer of the Bank of Cherry Creek in Denver since 1994.
He was on the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City-Denver Branch, on the board of trustees of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Denver Art Museum and Iliff School of Theology, and was a board member of the Rocky Mountain American Institute of Banking, Colorado Bankers Association, Colorado Thirty Group, Colorado Christian University School of Business Improvement District, Urban League of Metropolitan Denver and the Institute of International Education.
In Colorado Springs, Mr. Mammel served on the board of trustees of the Center for Christian-Jewish Dialogue, Colorado Springs Symphony, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Urban League of Colorado Springs. In Boulder, Colo., he served on the board of the Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors, all of Denver, include his wife, Susan; two children, Jordan Mammel and Lindsey Mammel; his parents; a sister, Kay Mammel-Sellers; and his father-in-law, Zach K. Brinkerhoff Jr.
Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. MST Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Denver. Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. CST Monday in Leoti Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the C. Gary Mammel Memorial Fund of which the family has selected several memorial funds in his name, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Leoti.
Katrina Kay Kleffman
Katrina Kay Kleffman, 23, and her infant daughter, Annabelle Christine Barbosa, of Port Arthur, Texas, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Born March 3, 1978, at Guymon, Okla., to Gene Allen and Patricia Ann (Perry) Kleffman, she was a student at Lamar University in Texas.
Survivors include her mother, Patricia Ann Kleffman, Hugoton; her father and stepmother, Gene Allen and Bobbi Kleffman, Phoenix; her fiance, Jason Barbosa, and his children, Brock and Jonathan, all of Port Arthur; a brother, Michael, Rogers, Ark.; her grandparents, Wilmer and Isabel Perry, Hugoton; her grandfather and stepgrandmother, Gene and Barbara Kleffman, Harrison, Ark.; a nephew; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Phyllis Kleffman.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Assembly of God Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Graveside service will be 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Elmhurst Cemetery, Guymon.

Juan Antonio Diaz
SUBLETTE - Funeral for Juan Antonio Diaz, 103, of Sublette, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church, Sublette, with the Rev. David Erwin officiating. Burial will be in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette.
Mr. Diaz died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at his son's home in Sublette.
Born July 2, 1898, at Jalisco, Mexico, he was the son of Salvador and Salome (Torres) Diaz.
He married Martha Flores.
A farmer, Mr. Diaz moved from Juarez, Mexico, to Sublette on Dec. 27, 1999.
He is survived by three sons, Juan Diaz Jr., Albuquerque, N.M., Robert Diaz, Sublette, and Ismael Diaz, Juarez; a daughter, Belen Miskei, El Paso, Texas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, two sisters and two brothers.

Jerome A. Rome
Vigil service for Jerome A. Rome, 86, will be 8 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with graveside rites conducted by the Garden City Area Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Rome died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Dec. 24, 1914, at St. Peter, the son of Nick and Paulina (Boxler) Rome. He attended grade school at St. Peter and graduated from high school at St. Joseph Military Academy in Hays.
He served a term in the U.S. Army and then served on a submarine for the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge, he attended a jewelers school in Nebraska before moving to Garden City, where he was the longtime owner and operator of Rome Jewelry.
Mr. Rome was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. His special interests were golfing and working on clocks.
In 1954, he married Val Coen. She died Oct. 8, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Peter, Dave, Ed and Adolph Rome; and four sisters, Catherine Ruman, Clara Rome, Ann Scariano and Mary Rome.
Survivors include a stepson, Reg Gray, Yoder; three brothers, Anton Rome and Mike Rome Sr., both of Garden City, and John Rome, Hugoton; a sister, Patricia Ohmes, Garden City; and three stepgrandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 7 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary Catholic Church or St. Dominic Catholic Church, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Dick P. "Mickey" Robinson Jr.
He was born Aug. 20, 1920 in Garden City to Dick Paul and Kathryn Elizabeth (Myers) Robinson Sr. He was a lifetime resident of Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School.
Mr. Robinson received a Navy discharge from the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church and helped build what is the present church. He was an active member of the Eagles Lodge, V.F.W and American Legion. His hobbies were outdoor activities, including boating, camping and spending time with his family.
He started Robinson Alignment Service in 1952 until his son Kim took over the business. He and his son Greg started La Comida Tortilla Factory in 1988 and ran it until 1999, which it was sold.
On June 16, 1945 he married Earlene Solze in Ulysses. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Gene Robinson, Antonito, Colo., Greg Robinson and Kim Robinson, Garden City, his daughter Theresa Mangan, Plano, Tex., seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Robinson is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Pat Robinson and Danny Robinson, and a son-in-law, Dean Mangan.
The funeral service is Monday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 11th Street and Buffalo Jones Avenue, Garden City.
The Rev. Carroll Morony is officiating with the Rev. John Williams assisting. The burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with Military Graveside Rites done by the Garden City Area Veteran Honor Guard.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
