Thelma Pauline Peachey
HUGOTON - Funeral for Thelma Pauline Peachey, 85, of Hugoton, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Nel Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Mrs. Peachey died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born Jan. 19, 1916, in Stevens County, the daughter of John Ernest and Margaret Luella (Brown) Ray.
On Sept. 15, 1934, she married Earl James Peachey at Liberal. He died Dec. 21, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Corinne Tilford.
A lifetime Stevens County resident, Mrs. Peachey was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Hugoton.
She is survived by a son, James Keith Peachey, Hugoton; two daughters, Donna Ray Marsh, Albuquerque, N.M., and Alberta Earlene Brubaker, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; a brother, Elwyn Ray, Hugoton; three sisters, Louise Shannon, Yorktown, Ind., Helen Stevens, Hooker, Okla., and Lucille Herald, Liberal; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. The casket will be open at the funeral home and closed at the church. Memorials are suggested for a scholastic scholarship fund, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
Virginia June Ledford
DEERFIELD - Virginia June Ledford, 70, of Emporia, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at Newman Memorial County Hospital in Emporia.
Born March 28, 1931, at Webb City, Okla., she was the daughter of Lonnie and Agnes (Sigler) Long.
She married David Ledford. They divorced in 1979.
Mrs. Ledford had worked as a registered nurse for 20 years. She was a member of Eastern Star of Hamilton and First Congregational Church of Emporia.
She is survived by two sons, Clay Ledford, Deerfield, and Mike Ledford, Cassville, Mo.; three daughters, Rhonda Finnerty, Cassville, Rita Bluma, Perry, Okla., and Cherri Lopez, Emporia; three sisters, Judy Riddle, Sharon Johnson and Connie Morgan, all of Texas; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Congregational Church, Emporia, with the Rev. Gary Gooszen officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo, in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.
Jerald D. "Jerry" Shearmire
SCOTT CITY - Jerald D. "Jerry" Shearmire, 60, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at his home in Scott City.
He was born Sept. 2, 1940, at Modoc, the son of Walter and Neva (Binns) Shearmire.
A lifetime resident of Scott County, he worked as a mechanic for Kinder Morgan Inc.
On July 1, 1961, he married Shirley Heinrich at Scott City. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Michelle Browning, Granbury, Texas, and Cheryl Chmielewski, St. Robert, Mo.; a brother, Ray Shearmire, Garden City; four sisters, Rene Chvilicek, Corrine Brau and Jacque Snow, all of Scott City, and Maxine Grover, Great Bend; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Don White officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to Scott County Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
Robert H. "Bob" Keller
Funeral for Robert H. "Bob" Keller, 69, of Medford, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Medford, with the Rev. Bruce E. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford, with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Okla.
Mr. Keller died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Meade.
He was born Jan. 26, 1932, near Medford, the son of Homer H. and Ethelyne T. (Hall) Keller. He graduated from Medford High School and attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College at Tonkawa for one year.
Mr. Keller was a farmer/stockman and lived in Grant County, Okla., all of his life. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Medford, the VFW and the American Legion, and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean conflict.
On Aug. 2, 1952, he married Glenna Jan Ault. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Robert Scott Keller, Garden City; four sisters; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Hills-Ely Funeral Home, Medford.
Douglas M. Dew
Funeral for Douglas M. Dew, 55, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Charles Wagher officiating.
Mr. Dew died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at his home in Garden City.
He was born June 27, 1945, at Garden City, the son of Millard and Inez (Carroll) Dew.
A lifetime resident of Garden City, Mr. Dew was a driver for United Parcel Service and belonged to Elks Lodge No. 1404 of Garden City.
On April 10, 1965, he married Gayle Stephenson at Grand Junction, Colo. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Roger Dew, Carl Junction, Mo.; a daughter, Katherine Cedillo, Garden City; his parents, Garden City; two brothers, Preston Dew, Garden City, and Spencer Dew, Longmont, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Elks Lodge K.E.T.C.H. Program or St. Catherine Hospice, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Donald M. Thorne
Donald M. Thorne, 75, of Garden City, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at his daughter's home in Hays.
He was born Jan. 1, 1926, at Garden City, the son of Donald M. and Gertrude (Lannon) Thorne.
Mr. Thorne retired in 1986 from Southwestern Bell Telephone after working as a manager for 40 years. He had worked in Garden City until moving to Topeka in 1966. The family returned to Garden City in 1994.
He was a member of Community Congregational Church in Garden City.
On Sept. 16, 1951, he married Ernestine Barber at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Greg Alan Thorne, Lewisville, Colo.; two daughters, Sherry Lynne Leiker, Hays, and Gayle Marie Johnson, Stillwater, Okla.; three sisters, Delora Sawyer, Kent, Wash., Phyllis Turner, Sylmar, Calif., and Lenore Welborn, Chino Hills, Calif.; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim; and a sister, Donna VanSchoyck.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Community Congregational Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Mike Lake officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Eugene Stoeckly
Eugene Stoeckly, 93, a former Garden City resident, died of a stroke Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Mercy South Hospital in Fairfield, Ohio.
Born in Chicago in 1907, he graduated from Garden City High School, and earned bachelor's degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering and a master's degree from the University of Colorado, then completed General Electric's three-year Advanced Engineering Program.
An engineer at General Electric Aircraft Engines in Evendale, Ohio, he had helped build the fastest airplanes in the world. He had joined GE in 1930, helping launch the jet age. He worked at GE's Large Steam Turbine Division in Schenectady, N.Y., where he oversaw repair and replacement of turbine-testing facilities.
In 1941, he assumed responsibility for the design and construction of GE's first supercharger and gas turbine facility in Lynn, Mass. There, in 1942, he was involved in launching the I-A, America's first jet engine. He continued developing high-performance engines, and held nearly 50 patents on aircraft gas turbines and in related fields.
He moved to Wyoming, Ohio, in 1952, when he was transferred to the plant in Evendale. He retired at age 65, but continued to consult for the company for 21 years. He and his wife, Roberta Bailar, moved to Maple Knoll Village in Springdale, Ohio, in 1991.
Mr. Stoeckly was the recipient of several GE awards, including the 1973 Perry T. Egbert Memorial Award, the highest honor given to a GE Evendale engineer. He was inducted into the Aircraft Engine Hall of Fame in 1984 and received the University of Colorado Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award for Research and Invention in 1997. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Royal Aeronautical Society.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, he is survived by two daughters, Jean Emery, Tampa, Fla., and Susan Stitt, Amherst, N.H.; two sisters, Ruth Crawford, Denver, and Erika Saltzman, Peoria, Ariz.; a brother, Fred, Denver; and eight grandchildren.
Services have been conducted. Mr. Stoeckly's remains were donated to the University of Cincinnati.
