Everett "Lee" Crawford
HUGOTON - Funeral services for Everett "Lee" Crawford will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethel Friends Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Eric Mason presiding.
Everett "Lee" Crawford, 60, Hugoton, died Saturday, May 5, at Stevens County Hospital, Hugoton.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1941, in Stevens County, the son of Ernest LeRoy and Alba Mae (Mason) Crawford Wayland. He was a longime resident of Hugoton. He was owner and operator of Lee Crawford Enterprises where he worked as a trencher and backhoe operator.
On March 11, 1960, he married Peggy Barricklow of Hugoton. She survives.
Other survivors include: his mother of Hugoton; a son, Jeff Crawford, Hugoton; two daughters, Robin Reid, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Christina Sosa, Liberal; two sisters, Norma Stoddard, Hugoton, and Velda Anderson, Ulysses; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather Arnell Wayland, three brothers, James, Floyd "Tuff" and Lloyd Crawford.
Burial will be at Hugoton Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Hugoton.
The family requests that memorials be given to the Stevens County Hospital, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, Ks 67951.
Mae E. Vaughan
SCOTT CITY - Mae E. Vaughan, 93, Scott City, died Thursday, May 3, at the Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City.
She was born on Oct. 9, 1907, in Scott County, the daughter of Phin and Omie (Anderson) Seward. She was a lifetime resident of Scott City and was a secretary, until her retirement, at the Methodist Church in Scott City for more than 20 years.
Other memberships include the United Methodist Church, UMW, American Legion Auxiliary and the VIP Center, all of Scott City.
On Aug. 24, 1930, she married Daniel George Vaughan at Garden City. He died May 1, 1982, at Scott City.
Survivors include a son, Marion Vaughan of Pueblo, Colo.; a brother, Claude Seward, Zavalla, Texas; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Mike McGuire presiding. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City.
Ruth Ann Schlereth "Mam Mam" Sprott
Vigil service for Ruth Ann Schlereth "Mam Mam" Sprott, 83, of Garden City, will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City, with the Rev. John R. Strasser officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
Mrs. Sprott died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at the Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore.
She was born Oct. 20, 1917, in Prowers County, Colo., the daughter of Frank and Leona (Lindsey) Schlereth. When she was 2 months old, the family moved to a farm in Hodgeman County and she grew up there. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Dodge City.
On Feb. 21, 1943, she married Leonard Sprott at Dodge City and they lived in Hodgeman County. She helped with the farming and ranching, taking it over completely after her husband suffered an aneurysm in 1973. The home they lived in belonged to the family for 100 years until it was destroyed in a fire.
Her husband died Jan. 14, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Florence Marque and Dorothy Myers.
Mrs. Sprott moved to Garden City in 1989 to live with her daughter and assist in the rehabilitation of her grandson, Jamie, in the patterning program. She was a member of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Sprott, Dodge City, and Terrence Sprott, Garden City; three daughters, Mary Louise Nau and Monica Alexander, both of Dodge City, and Madonna Wendler, Garden City; two brothers, Curtis Schlereth and F.A. "Alfred" Schlereth, both of Dodge City; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are from noon to 8 p.m. today and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Ruth Ann Sprott Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Margaret Ornelas
Garden City - Margaret Ornelas, 81, died Friday, May 4, 2001 at Garden Valley Retirement Village.
She was born December 23, 1919 in Garden City, Kansas to Antonio and Josefa (Martinez) Morales. She was a lifetime Garden City citizen who enjoyed being a homemaker. She married Julian Ornelas in September of 1947 in Garden City. Mrs. Ornelas enjoyed sewing, gardening and spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters. She belonged to St. Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Julian Ornelas; three sons, Johnny and Tony Ornelas, both of Garden City and Julian Ornelas, Nacadoches, Texas; three daughters, Irene Hernandez and Lupe Jennings, both of Garden City, and Mary Piligian, Miami; a sister, Rosie Ramirez, Garden City; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 8 at Garnand Funeral Home. The minister will be Father James E. Baker. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery. Arrangement are by the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St., (620) 276-3219.
Janice Irene Dodd
Smith Center - Janice Irene Dodd, 62, passed away May 3, 2001 at her home in Smith Center, Kansas.
She was born in September 19, 1938 in Casper, Wyoming, the daughter of Louis Charles and Mary Irene (Davis) Cooper. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Smith Center and Garden City. She had served as a Sunday school teacher and on various committees at the First United Methodist Church in Smith Center. She was a graduate of Kansas State University.
She was a business and English teacher for 29 years, teaching in the Yates Center, Sublette and Garden City. Over the years she had served on various committees in the schools.
On August 31, 1958, she married Marvin Bryce Dodd in Casper, Wyoming. To this union, two children were born; Steven Bryce and Leslie Diane.
Mrs. Dodd is survived by her husband, Marvin Bryce Dodd of Smith Center; a son, Steven Bryce Dodd and his wife, Lynda of Phoenix; a daughter, Leslie Diane Bates and her husband, Bryan of Clearwater, Kansas; two brothers, Robert Louis Cooper of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Bill Gene Cooper of Modesto, California; a sister, Elizabeth Grace Borg of Hendersonville, North Carolina and five grandchildren, Talan, Alyssa, Brandon, Alaina and Kaley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 7 at the First United Methodist Church, Smith Center with Revs. Sara Dillinger and Laura Beth Fricker presiding. Friends may call from 1 until 8 p.m., Sunday at the mortuary, and 9 a.m. until service at the church Monday. Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery
in Esbon, Kansas.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Smith Center or the Center for Basic Cancer Research of Manhatten or Salina Hospital - Penn Campus.
Edith Frantz
DIGHTON - Memorial service for Edith Frantz, 91, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating. Private burial will take place in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Frantz died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.
She was born Dec. 7, 1909, at Pendennis, the daughter of B.C. and Angie (Anderson) Davis. A lifetime resident of Lane County, she attended White Rock School and graduated from Dighton High School.
Mrs. Frantz was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dighton and a charter member of P.E.O. A homemaker, she was involved in the children's department of her church and had also spent several months on a Salvation Army mission at a children's home in Jamaica. She enjoyed traveling and her family activities.
On Oct. 1, 1928, she married Frank Frantz at Scott City. He died Aug. 2, 1963. She was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, five brothers and one sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Edmundson, Valley Center, and Fran Belden-Anderson, Wichita; three sisters, Beulah Stewart and Juanita Morris, both of Dodge City, and Muriel Thomas, Fort Dodge; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or Presbyterian Manor, both in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton.
