Marjory B. Godbey Remetch
Jesup--Funeral service and burial for Marjory B. Godbey Remetch,74, were held today in Waterloo. Mrs. Remetch died Tuesday, May 8 at Kearny County Hospital, Lakin.
A native of rural Jesup, she was born April 18,1927 in Independence, the daughter of Lyle O. and Beatrice Fowlkes Fernau. She married Ralph Godbey in January 1943 and after his death, later married James A. Remetch, who died in 1985.
She worked at the Rath Packing Company for 38 years before retiring in 1985.
She is survived by sons, Ralph William Godbey of Rosemount, Minn., Jim Lee Cox, New Hartford, Chuck and Roger Alan Godbey, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Thomas Ray Godbey, Lakin and one daughter, Kathaleen Ann Bowser, Waterloo; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Other surviving relatives include three brothers, Oscar "Bud" Fernau, Jesup and Norman and Matt Fernau, both of Waterloo and five sisters, Katherine Dawson, Waterloo; Thelma Foster, Jesup; Grace Fernau, Hampton; Rosemary Geary, Olewein and Mary Paden, Frederika.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marilyn Kay Godbey; two sisters, Merle Fernau and Donna Spece and a brother, Loren "Pete" Fernau.
Services were held Friday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Bernice Eleanor Bender
Bernice Eleanor Bender, 94, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, in the Haster Care Center, Hutchinson.
Ms. Bender was born on July 22, 1906, in Stockdale to Alfred and Mabel (Springer) Bender.
She was a 1924 graduate of Holton High School and received an associates degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. and a bachelors degree in english and journalism from Kansas State University.
Ms. Bender taught english at Peru, Lincoln, Wamego and Garden City high schools. She went on to teach at Hutchinson Community College before retirement.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.
She is survived by one sister, Geraldine Peery, of San Antonio, Texas; one sister-in-law, Susie Bender, of Dallas, Texas; two nephews and four nieces.
One brother, Harold Bender, and one sister, Sarah (Bender) Duckett died earlier.
Private graveside services will be held in Holton.
Memorials may be sent to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers both in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Martha A. Konda
SPEARVILLE - The vigil service for Martha A. Konda will be at 7:30 tonight at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Spearville. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Robert A. Schremmer presiding.
Martha A. Konda, 86, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center, Dodge City.
Mrs. Konda was born on Nov. 13, 1914, at Windthorst, the daughter of Henry Carl and Anna (Temaat) Hain. A western Kansas area resident most of her life, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Spearville.
On Aug. 25, 1937, she married Frank M. Konda at Bueyros, N.M. He died Sept. 23, 1996.
Survivors include three daughters, Martha Ann Smith, Wichita, Alvera Chvilicek, Marienthal, and Roberta Konda, Spearville; a brother, Henry Hain, Spearville; two sisters, Gertrude Herman, Dodge City, and Rita Naab, Spearville, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Schmitt, and two grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 tonight at the church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Windthorst.
The family suggests memorials be given to the Good Samaritan Center in care of Burkhart Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Golda Mae Heinze
WICHITA - Golda Mae Heinze, 83, Wichita, died Sunday, May 6, 2001. She was born on Dec. 14, 1917, in Stafford County, the daughter of Herman E. and Augusta (Dralle) Weers.
Mrs. Heinze was a retired teacher and paraprofessional with the Wichita school district.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Hewes, Ingalls, and Elaine Heinze, San Antonio, Texas; and three grandchildren.
The funeral service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wichita. She was buried at Resthaven Gardens of memory, Wichita.
Memorials have been established for the Bethany Lutheran School Scholarship Fund.
Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita, handled arrangements.
Kathleen G. Winderlin
Kathleen G. Winderlin, 84, passed away at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City on Sunday, May 6, 2001.
A vigil prayer service was held 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, and a funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m. today at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, also in Scott City, with Father David Kraus officiating.
Mrs. Winderlin was born February 26, 1917 in Scott City, the daughter of Elmer and Gertrude Rhodes Rudolph. She was a lifetime resident of Scott County.
Before her marriage, she taught school in north Scott County for two years.
On October 30, 1939, she married Alfred Winderlin in Scott City. He passed away on January 15, 1993 in Scott City.
Mrs. Winderlin was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, the Altar Society and the Community Quilting Group, all in Scott City.
She is survived by two sons, Bob Winderlin, Scott City and Bill Winderlin, Scott City; five daughters, Paula Piantanida, Kingston, N.Y., Rose Marie Weis, Peyton Colo., Patricia Calabro, Lead, S.D., Verena Schwieterman, Garden City and Lora Henderson, Kearney, Neb.; two brothers, Wayne Rudolph, Scott City and Glen Rudolph, Spokane, Wash.; 21 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and one brother.
Her internment will be at the Scott County Cemetery
in Scott City.
Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home.
Edward Jake Cameron
Graveside service for Edward Jake Cameron, 52, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Boise City Cemetery, Boise City, Okla. with Tom Milbern officiating.
Mr. Cameron, known to most as Ed, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001 in Boise City, Okla.
He was born August 7, 1948 in Lamar, Colo., the son of Donald and Margaret Joan (Osten) Cameron.
He attended school at Prichett, Colo. until the 6th grade, when the Cameron family moved to Las Animas, Colo. He continued his education there and graduated from high school in 1966. After high school, he attended the Otero Junior College for one year.
Mr. Cameron moved to Alamosa, Colo. where he met Shirley Heersink. He was then enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Alamosa, where he and Shirley were married on August 15, 1970.
Ed and Shirley lived in Alamosa until December of 1970, when they moved to Perryton, Texas. From there, they moved to Bryan's Corner. In August of 1973, they moved again to Boise City, Okla. where they lived ever since.
Mr. Cameron worked for the Panhandle Telephone Coop. for 27 years. He received a 25-year award for his service there.
He enjoyed his family their family vacations. His favorite pastimes were camping and fishing. He loved to fish anywhere there was water. His pride and joy, and his best buddy, was his grandson, Steven. Ed was a dear son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He was survived by his wife in Boise City, Okla.; one son, Richard Cameron, San Antonio, Texas; one daughter, Jennifer Cameron, La Junta, Colo.; his mother in La Junta, Colo.; one brother, Karl D. Cameron, Lakin; one grandson, Steven Cameron, La Junta, Colo.; and many other relatives and friends.
The family has suggested memorials to the Save Our Hospital Fund or the Soutar Memorial Library, in care of the Cimarron Mortuary, Boise City, Okla.
