Mary Jane Bush
Memorial service for Mary Jane Bush, 61, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fellowship Baptist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Michael McVey officiating.
She died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at her home in Garden City.
Born Nov. 26, 1939, at Scott City, she was the daughter of James Franklin and Gertrude Mae (Taylor) Bush.
A resident of Garden City since 1995, moving from Carterville, Mo., she was a secretary and receptionist for the Center for Independent Living in Garden City. She was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four sons, Mark A. Van Vaulkenberg, Wayne Van Vaulkenberg and Blake Van Vaulkenberg, all of California, and Joe E. Cabalero, Carthage, Mo.; two daughters, Adina M. Morrison, Phoenix, and Rita M. Cabalero, D'Iberville, Miss.; three brothers, Jimmie J. Bush, Greeley, Colo., Joe E. Bush, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Dennis Bush, Newton, Iowa; and three sisters, Imogene K. "Jean" Long and Doris C. Matthews, both of Garden City, and Eleanor M. Schwaiger, Quinlan, Texas.
There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Mary Jean Bush Memorial Fund, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.
Ralph M. Belknap Sr.
Funeral for Ralph M. Belknap Sr., 81, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Mr. Belknap died Monday, May 28, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born June 3, 1919, at Coolidge, the son of Ernest N. and Carrie H. (Norton) Belknap. He grew up in Logan County and attended schools in Russell Springs.
Mr. Belknap served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II from 1942 to 1945, serving mostly in Khorramshahr, Iran. He worked for a short time for Coen Electric in Wichita. He moved to Garden City in 1945 and worked as an electrician at Geier Electric for 25 years, retiring in 1981. After his retirement, he delivered The Garden City Telegram for 12 years.
He was a member of the VFW and the Garden City Road Riders, and enjoyed traveling, motorcycles, yard work, and collecting frogs and belt buckles.
On Feb. 20, 1946, he married Velma Bostick at Wichita. She died Nov. 25, 1982. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild.
He is survived by two sons, Dale Belknap and Ralph Belknap Jr., both of Garden City; two daughters, Judy Ramsey, Garden City, and Connie Otto, Las Vegas; two brothers, Clarence Belknap, Fresno, Calif., and Lee Belknap, Garden City; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Ralph Belknap Sr. Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Cynthia Viette Akins
MOSCOW - Funeral for Cynthia Viette Akins, 49, of Allen, Okla., and a Moscow resident from 1978 to 1993, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Richmond Avenue Freewill Baptist Church in Allen. Burial will follow in Allen Cemetery
under the direction of Cristwell Funeral Home, Ada, Okla.
Mrs. Akins died Friday, May 25, 2001, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
Born April 23, 1952, at Bishop, Calif., she was the daughter of Clifford and Carmen (Munis) Davis.
On Aug. 8, 1988, she married Kenneth Earl Akins at Reno, Nev. They moved from Moscow to Allen in 1993. She was a cook and waitress at the B & K Restaurant in Allen.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Frank Bell and Shannon Bell, both of Allen; two stepdaughters, Shirley White, Moscow, and Mary Dawn Pate, Monett, Mo.; her parents, Allen; her mother-in-law, Donna Powell, Allen; a sister, Linda Mayo, Lodi, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, is in charge of local arrangements.
Pauline Middleton
Pauline Middleton, 84, of Hill City, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Dawson Place Nursing Home in Hill City.
She was born Nov. 25, 1916, at Scotts Bluff, Neb., the daughter of Peter and Katherine (Herdt) Drumheller.
A longtime area resident, she was a homemaker. She belonged to the Hill City Presbyterian Church, EHU, and the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries.
On Oct. 12, 1943, she married Ovid Middleton at Belleville. He died Jan. 3, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include three sons, Bruce Middleton, Garden City, James and Bill Middleton, both of San Diego; a daughter, Linda Thomas, San Diego; a sister, Lillie Nuss, Moses Lake, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hill City Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ellen Carter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Hill City.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Spencer-Stinemetz Chapel, Hill City, and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Spencer-Stinemetz Chapel, 522 N. Pomeroy, Hill City, KS 67642.
Donna Irene Rupp
Vigil service for Donna Irene Rupp, 58, will be 7 tonight at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Rupp died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born July 9, 1942, at Eugene, Ore., the daughter of John Mintz and Eileene Josephine (Peterson) Frerichs. The family moved from Oregon to Minden, Neb., where she grew up and graduated from high school. She later lived in Lexington, Neb., and moved to Garden City in 1969.
A homemaker, Mrs. Rupp was involved with her children's activities when they were growing up, such as serving as PTO mother and as a room mother. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, decorating, her rose garden and especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
On Dec. 21, 1970, she married Larry Gene Rupp at Lamar, Colo. He survives. She is also survived by four daughters, Lyla Ayers, Dallas, Lisa Hernandez, Carrollton, Texas, Shelia Rupp and Kamie Hagey, both of Garden City; a son, Joseph Miller, San Jose, Calif.; four brothers, Donald Frerichs, Malvern, Iowa, Walter Frerichs, Kearny, Neb., Alvin Frerichs, Sumner, Neb., and Bob Frerichs, Orlando, Fla.; four sisters, Elsie Hubbard, Mountain View, Calif., Evelyn Gerken, Lexington, Neb., Judy DeLap, Wichita, and Mary Tracey, Cannady's, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Petra Villarreal
Petra Villarreal, 77, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at her home in Garden City.
She was born Jan. 18, 1924, at Garden City, the daughter of Alfonzo and Paula (Herrera) Hermocillo. A lifetime Garden City resident, she attended Garden City schools.
A homemaker, she also helped in the family carpet business. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, and enjoyed her family, cooking, needle work and helping others.
On March 18, 1946, she married Ysidro "Izzy" Villarreal at Dodge City. He survives. She is also survived by two sons, Cesar Villarreal, Garden City, and J.R. Villarreal, Dallas; a daughter, Sophia Thomas, Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Lori Perales, Garden City, and Paula Rodriguez, Wichita; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Hillary Villarreal; and two brothers, Felix and Angel Hermocillo.
Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Brian Michael Sober
Funeral for Brian Michael Sober, the infant son of Jessica M. Sober of Mount Hope, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Haven Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dean Flanner officiating. Burial will be in Haven Priest Cemetery, rural Haven.
Brian died May 25, 2001, at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born May 20, 2001, at Wichita.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his grandparents, Darrell and Mollie Sober, Mount Hope; his great-grandparents, Clyde and Peggy Sober, Dodge City, and Rex and Kathryn Slover, Garden City; and his great-great-grandparents, Melvin and Barbara Sober, Greeley, Colo.
