Roy W. Perry
HUGOTON - Roy W. Perry, 88, of Hugoton, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, where he had been a resident for 11 months.
He was born Sept. 2, 1912, in Stevens County, the son of Jesse and Bertha (Gore) Perry.
A lifetime resident, he was a farmer and stockman. He belonged to Church Of The Firstborn, Hugoton.
On May 27, 1934, he married Hattie Franklin Hull at Richfield. They enjoyed traveling throughout the world, and spending time with family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dick Perry and Dwayne Hull, both of Hugoton; four daughters, Shirley Leonard, Hugoton, Betty Jo Hinkle, Sacramento, Calif., Jessie Shuck, Liberal, and Vickie Larrabee, Meade; a nephew; a brother, Wilmer Perry, Hugoton; a sister, Bertha June Clinesmith, Checotah, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Frank Perry and Homer Perry; and a granddaughter.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Church Of God, Hugoton, with the Revs. Bill Vincent and Terry Worthington officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Fund, in care of the funeral home, 314 S. Van Buren St., Hugoton, KS 67951.
Irvin Jacob Koppisch
CIMARRON - Funeral for Irvin Jacob Koppisch, 83, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ingalls Community Bible Church, with the Rev. Michael Whalen officiating. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.
Mr. Koppisch died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at The Shepherd's Center in Cimarron.
He was born May 9, 1917, at Liberal, the son of Herman Charles and Lydia Blanche (Gentzler) Koppisch. An Ingalls resident since the age of 2, he attended rural schools and graduated from Ingalls High School in 1934.
On Dec. 2, 1961, he married Linda Hoop.
Mr. Koppisch farmed near Ingalls and the Haggard community and also worked as a television and radio repairman for several years.
He is survived by a daughter, Jeanette Dwyre, Ingalls; a son, Jon Koppisch, Martinsburg, W.Va.; a sister, Ethel Renick, Garden City; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Opal Reagen, Naomi Meline, Myrtle Koppisch and Lydia Graham; and his parents.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to the church or The Shepherd's Center, both in care of the funeral home.
Kenneth R. Brant Sr.
HOLCOMB - Funeral for Kenneth R. Brant Sr., 61, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Jeff Starkey officiating. The family suggests casual dress for the funeral. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Brant died Friday, April 13, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born May 19, 1939, at Wichita, the son of Theodore and Veda Collis (Talmadge) Brant. He lived in Wichita until moving to California when he was 16. He later lived in Colorado, Las Vegas, Iowa and Florida before settling in Finney County in 1986. He worked as a printer before moving to Holcomb where he then worked in the slaughter division of IBP.
Mr. Brant enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, softball, movies and watching the Kansas City Chiefs.
On Aug. 12, 1971, he married Lora L. Wallace at Iola. She survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Coleen Whennen, Newton, Iowa, Kim Mota, Holcomb, and Kandi Foreman, Garden City; two sons, Theodore Brant and Kenneth Brant Jr., both of Holcomb; two brothers, Vernon Brant, Augusta, and Robert Brant, Holcomb; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Kenneth Brant Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
Michelle Renee Maldonado
Rosary for Michelle Renee Maldonado, 17, of Hutchinson, will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Hutchinson. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Richard Stuchlik officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park.
Miss Maldonado died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Hutchinson.
She was born Oct. 9, 1983, at Liberal, the daughter of Paul and Teresa R. (Gleason) Maldonado, former Garden City residents.
A junior at Trinity High School, she was a member of the Lady Celtic basketball, volleyball and track teams, and was selected to the second team of Heart of America League Basketball, Honorable Mention All Reno County Basketball Team and Honorable Mention All Southwest Kansas Basketball Team.
She was a Gold Medal winner of the Heart of America League Scholarship Test, an Academic Honor Student, a member of Campus Ministry and was junior class treasurer. She was selected to attend Girl's State, was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and the Catholic Youth Organization and was a pro-life advocate.
She is survived by her parents; her grandmother, Nancy Gleason, Kansas City, Mo.; four brothers, Kevin Paul, Christopher Emilio, Thomas Daniel and Michael Phillip, and a sister, Melissa Maria, all of the home. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, William Gleason and Emilio M. Maldonado; and her grandmother, Nellie Maldonado.

Perry Deverne Owen
DIGHTON - Funeral for Perry Deverne Owen, 83, will be 7 tonight at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Revs. Mike Grogan and Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by Barney Masonic Lodge No. 279 of Dighton.
Mr. Owen died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
He was born May 3, 1917, at Amy, the son of Perry C. and Betty Mae (Bickers) Owen. He graduated from Dighton High School in 1935 and attended Kansas State University.
Mr. Owen served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. After his discharge from the service, he worked in Hattiesburg, Miss., until moving back to Lane County in 1947. He was a farmer and stockman and had served as Lane County Assessor for 20 years.
He was a charter member of Amy Baptist Church, a member of First Christian Church, Dighton, a 50-year member of Dighton American Legion Post No. 190, was Blaine Township trustee for 50 years, and helped organize and volunteered on the Lane County Rural Fire Department for 25 years.
He served on the Lane County A.S.C.S. Board for nine years, was past master and a 50-year member of Barney Masonic Lodge No. 279, was past patron of Order of the Eastern Star, received his 25-year pin from the Shriners in 1997, served on the Lane County Cemetery
Board for more than 50 years, and was on the Amy and Dighton school boards. His special interests were farm activities and bowling.
On May 3, 1946, he married Martha Elaine Breland at Hattiesburg. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Candita Bock, Lake Oswego, Ore.; a son, Kerry A. Owen, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Dean Owen.
Memorials are suggested to the Barney Masonic Lodge Scholarship Fund or First Christian Church, both in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton.
Edith Susan Marrs
MONTEZUMA - Edith Susan Marrs, 100, a longtime resident of Montezuma, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Minneola District Hospital.
She was born Dec. 9, 1900, in Gray County, the daughter of James W. and Lattie (Edwards) Brock.
On Nov. 21, 1919, she married Chester I. Marrs at Cimarron. They lived in Fowler for 62 years before moving to New Mexico. In 1979, they moved to Montezuma. He died Nov. 23, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Roscoe D. Marrs, Leo Raymond Marrs and Danny Ray Marrs; three grandsons; a granddaughter; two brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. Marrs moved into the Fowler Nursing Home in 1994. A homemaker, she was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary and was a Gold Star Mother, all at Fowler.
She is survived by four sons, Lloyd Marrs, Littleton, Colo., Irvin Marrs, Montezuma, Lewis Marrs, Phoenix, and Richard Marrs, Fowler; two daughters, Pauline Golden, Oakhurst, Okla., and Ella Mae Deckert, Greensburg; two brothers, George Brock, Abany, Ore., and Edwin "Bus" Brock, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; a sister, Gladys Blake, Dodge City; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Fowler, with the Rev. Juanita Catlin officiating. Burial will be in Fowler Cemetery.

Rebecca Schmidt
MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Rebecca Schmidt, 92, of Dodge City and formerly of Montezuma, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Montezuma, with the Rev. Dick Robbins officiating. Burial will be in North Mennonite Cemetery, Montezuma.
Mrs. Schmidt died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Trinity Manor Nursing Home in Dodge City.
She was born May 9, 1908, at Fairview, Okla., the daughter of Abraham and Dena (Eck) Nightengale.
On Nov. 2, 1924, she married Herman Schmidt at Fairview. They moved from Fairview to the Montezuma community in 1924. He died in August 1968. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two grandsons.
Mrs. Schmidt had been a Dodge City resident since 1971. A farmer's wife and homemaker, she enjoyed livestock, gardening and fishing. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Montezuma.
She is survived by a daughter, Viola Unruh, Montezuma; a sister, Laura Unruh, Arkansas City; a grandson; four great-granddaughters; and one great-great-grandson.
