Mabel Lattimore
Mabel Lattimore, 91, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Nov. 6, 1909, at Gilmore, Texas, the daughter of Otis and Nancy (Mathes) Johnson. She grew up and attended schools there.
On Jan. 16, 1934, she married Herman Lattimore at Gilmore. They moved to Garden City in 1950 where she worked as a housekeeper for J.H. Burnside for 21 years, retiring in 1970.
Mrs. Lattimore was a member of Second Baptist Church, Senior Center of Finney County and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed gardening, pets and housekeeping.
Her husband died in 1964. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Leaana Poe.
She is survived by two nephews, John W. Poe, Wichita, and Edgar Poe, Garden City.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert R. Allen officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.
Monica Jacques (Caul) Rubenall
SUBLETTE - Graveside service for Monica Jacques (Caul) Rubenall, 86, was to be 2 p.m. today in Haskell County Cemetery, Sublette, with the Rev. Mary Al Titus officiating.
Mrs. Rubenall died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at her daughter's home in Satanta, with both of her daughters at her side.
She was born July 25, 1914, at Hollyrood, the daughter of Jacob Mathius and Cora (Monroe) Demel.
Mrs. Rubenall worked as an insurance secretary for the Thiemann Clinic and Farm Bureau, both at Sublette. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, and a former member of the Modern Priscilla Club and the Read A Book Club, all at Sublette.
On June 24, 1934, she married Denis F. Caul at Newton. They moved to Sublette in 1942. He died Dec. 6, 1969. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter.
Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Wilson, Sublette, and Susan Blair, Satanta; a brother, Billy Jay Demel, Desert Palm, Calif.; two sisters, Maxine Hauver, Desert Palm, and Patricia Krehhofer, Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Velma Thomas
LAKIN - Vigil service for Velma Thomas, 85, will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Lakin. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Mike Helms as celebrant. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Mrs. Thomas died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
She was born Sept. 26, 1915, north of Deerfield, the daughter of Guy V. and Fern (Alexander) Butler. She attended a country school in Kearny County, graduated from Deerfield High School in 1934, and attended Chillicothe, Mo., Business College.
She then returned to Deerfield and was employed in Lakin by the U.S. Government as office manager of Corn and Hog, later known as AAA. She transferred to the state office in Manhattan before moving back to Deerfield and working for Burtis Motor Co. in Garden City and then at Kansas-Nebraska Gas Co. in Lakin.
In the mid-1950s, she began work as an electrician and later qualified to be the first certified woman electrician in the state. She and her husband wired most of the new schools, government buildings and churches in the southwest part of the state from 1959 to 1984.
Mrs. Thomas was also a tour guide for Sunflower Excursions from 1967 to 1989, with chartered tours to the Ice Capades in Denver, shows in Branson, Mo., and many bowl games in Florida and California. Inspired by these trips, she helped start the annual arts and crafts exhibit in Garden City in the late 1960s, which is still an annual event each October.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church of Lakin, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Thomas, whom she married on July 10, 1949, at Lakin.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army, in care of the funeral home.
Donna Faye Anderson
HUGOTON - Donna Faye Anderson, 95, of Hugoton, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton.
She was born April 12, 1905, at Post in Gray County, the daughter of Homer E. and Tryphina (Redfield) McCue. A lifetime resident of the area, she was in the first graduating class from Moscow High School.
Mrs. Anderson was a homemaker, school teacher, social worker, and a bookkeeper for John Deere at Hugoton. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Moscow and attended the United Methodist Church at Hugoton after moving there.
On July 21, 1927, she married Leland Anderson. He preceded her in death as did her parents; an infant daughter; and four brothers, Howard McCue, Roy McCue, Ralph McCue and Murice McCue.
She is survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Moscow, with the Rev. Josue P. Mora officiating. Burial will be in Moscow Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday at Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton. Memorials are suggested to Pioneer Manor Nursing Home, in care of the funeral home, Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.
Velma I. Gigot
Velma I. Gigot, 90, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Terrace Garden Care Center in Garden City.
She was born June 15, 1910, at Red Wing, the daughter of Ezra Elam and Olive Mable (Stratton) McLinn. She began her schooling at WaKeeney and then attended South Finney County District 79 School after her family moved to Finney County.
Before marrying Clarence J. Gigot on June 19, 1929, at Liberal, she worked as a housekeeper for area families. After her marriage, she and her husband were lifelong farmers in Finney County.
Mrs. Gigot was a former member of the Grange and Ivanhoe Valley EHU, and had been a Plymell Ladies Aide and 4-H leader. She was well known for her cooking ability, enjoyed raising roses and flowers, and enjoyed her family and farm activities.
She is survived by five sons, Dean Gigot, Jerry Gigot, Terry Gigot, Mike Gigot and Jeff Gigot, all of Garden City; two daughters, Jennifer Priddy, Garden City, and Marjorie Van Camp, Colby; 24 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Her husband died March 30, 1996. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Presbyterian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. David Sweley officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 6 to 8 tonight, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or Terrace Garden Care Center, both in care of the funeral home.
Lenora Belle Townsend
SYRACUSE - Lenora Belle Townsend, 87, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Fremont Medical Center in Yuba City, Calif.
Born at Syracuse on Aug. 8, 1913, she was the daughter of Arthur and Nelle (Raney) Helmick. She graduated from Syracuse High School.
After living for 20 years in Syracuse, she moved to California for more than 40 years, then to Pueblo, Colo., for 15 years and had spent the last six years with her daughter in Yuba City. A bookkeeper and homemaker, she enjoyed traveling with her daughter and family activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Burchfield, in 1934; her parents; a daughter, Charlene Burchfield, in 1980; a granddaughter; a grandson; and an infant brother.
Survivors include a daughter, Norma Imler, Yuba City; and a sister, Eileen Hartshorn, Lamar, Colo.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. MST Friday in Syracuse Cemetery, with the Rev. William Fitzgerrel officiating.
