Keith E. Speer
DIGHTON - Funeral for Keith E. Speer, 54, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Revs. Mike and Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 190.
Mr. Speer died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Lane County Hospital in Dighton.
He was born Sept. 23, 1946, at Garden City, the son of Lloyd Clayton and Amanda Blanche (Franz) Speer. He attended Dighton High School, graduating in 1965.
A lifetime resident of Lane County, he was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 190 and VFW Post No. 6438, served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam, and enjoyed flying, going to coffee with his friends, and fishing with his grandson.
On Sept. 10, 1967, he married Linda L. Dowell at Dighton. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Chad Speer, Dighton; a daughter, Lisa Hall, Mesa, Ariz.; five brothers, Charles Speer, Modoc, Jarold Speer, Delmar Speer and Roger Speer, all of Dighton, and Gerald Speer, Garden City; two sisters, Wanda King, Glen Elder, and LaVona Perkins, Blue Springs, Mo.; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Giles and Paul; and a sister, Berdyna Wheeler.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the Lane County Ambulance Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Cecil Allen Brinley
Funeral for Cecil Allen Brinley, 80, a former area resident, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, Minn. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon, Minn.
Mr. Brinley died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at his home in Moorhead.
He was born Nov. 3, 1920, near Satanta, to Allen and Bertha (Ellsaesser) Brinley. He grew up in the rural areas of western Kansas and graduated in 1939 from high school in Garden City where he was proud of his accomplishments in FFA and of his State Farmers' Award. Shortly after graduating, he moved to Minnesota to farm with his father.
Over the years, Mr. Brinley was self-employed, owning an implement dealership as well as a resort. He also volunteered much of his life helping foster children, the Boy Scouts and the Campfire Girls. He enjoyed his family and friends, including the Good Shepherd Bible Study Group.
On April 5, 1942, he married Marcella Tweten at her family's home near Glyndon. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Darold Brinley, Altoona, Fla., and Obert Brinley, Bradner, Ohio; three daughters, Marcia Kenyon, Fargo, N.D., Naomi Lee, Bowling Green, Ohio, and Roberta Anderson, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Campbell, Colorado Springs, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, John Early; and a sister, Cleora.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Dorothy Venita Stewart
HUGOTON - Funeral for Dorothy Venita Stewart, 85, of Hugoton, was to be 10 this morning at Hugoton Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Stafford officiating. Burial was to follow in Hugoton Cemetery.
Mrs. Stewart died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart.
She was born Sept. 13, 1915, at Walters, Okla., the daughter of William Marion and Stella M. (Lowe) McAlister.
A Hugoton resident since 1951, she had worked at Porter Pharmacy, Paul's Pharmacy, Spudnut Shop, Duckwalls and Bloodhart Drug, and was the co-owner of the Sweet Shop in the 1950s. She was a member of Hugoton Baptist Church and Hugoton Rebekah Lodge.
In June 1940, she married Nathan Anderson "Andy" Stewart at Walters. He died in January 1965. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, David Carl Stewart; and two sisters, Betty Mead and Margaret Carley.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth W. Stewart, Denton, Texas; a daughter, Judy Clark, Hugoton; two brothers, Aubrey McAlister, Taylor, Texas, and Ray McAlister, San Diego; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Barbara A. Harrington
Barbara A. Harrington, 66, died Friday, March 16, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin.
She was born October 22, 1934 in Finney County, the daughter of Jacob and Blanche (Weigel) Quint.
She married Lawrence Richmeier in 1954, Raton, New Mexico. He died on March 5, 1960. In 1961 she married Robert N. Harrinton, Raton, New Mexico.
Mrs. Harrington graduated from Holcomb High school and was a lifetime Finney County resident. She worked as an operator at Southwestern Bell in her earlier years and was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, sewing and church activities.
She was a member of First Christian Church and a former chair of Diaconate at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, a daughter, Carla Brown, and three sisters, Rose Burgardt, Millie McCaslin and Charlotte Ann Quint.
She is survived by three sons, Kevin Richmeier and Rex Harrington, Garden City, and Eric Harrington, Greeley, Colo., three daughters, Pam Tyler, Lepanto, Ark., Lauretta Richardson, Garden City, and Lana DeHoff, Tonganoxie. She is also survived by one brother and five sisters, Allen Quint, Salinas, Calif., Louise Wasinger, Jean Dunham and Carol Barton, Garden City, Lillian Tatro, Commerce City, Colo., and Jane Handy, Las Vegas, Nev. Twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive Mrs. Harrington.
The funeral service is set for 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 19 at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Donald E. Carter will officiate. The burial is at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Gardey City. Mermorials can be sent to the First Christian Church or the American Lung Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Gertrude "Stella" Imel
Gertrude "Stella" Imel, 77, died Thursday, March 15, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born March 15, 1924 in Pierceville. Her parents were Charles and Mabel Era (Ward) Douglass.
She was married to Donald E. Imel on Sept. 30, 1944 at Temple, Tex.
Mrs. Imel graduated from Ingalls High School. She worked in Dodge City at Myers Dairy and Duckwalls before becoming a clerk for the Social and Rehabilitation Services office.
She moved to Garden City in 1969 and worked at the SRS office in Garden City before working for the Kansas Department of Transportation. She retired as a personnel clerk.
She attended the First Baptist Church of Garden City and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Dodge City.
Mrs. Imel enjoyed bowling and Kansas University basketball.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her husband, a son, Rodney D. Imel, Winfield, a daughter, Cynthia K. Nitcher, Lawrence, three brothers, Wayne Douglass, Garden City, Robert Douglass, Placerville, Calif., and Lawrence Doublass, Valley Springs, Calif., and two sisters, Dorothy Ray, Kaw City, Okla., and Irma Reed, Palmdale, Calif. She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Garden City, with the Rev. John S. Williams presiding.
Burial is at Valley View Cemetary.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church or American Crippled Childrens Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Charles Milton Ebersole Jr.
Funeral for Charles Milton Ebersole Jr., 82, of Richfield, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Richfield United Methodist Church, with Terrell Giddens officiating. Burial will be in Richfield Cemetery.
Mr. Ebersole died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, in Garden City.
He was born Feb. 18, 1919, at Copeland, the son of Charles Milton Sr. and Mable (Pippet) Ebersole. He graduated from Plains High School in Plains.
On Sept. 3, 1942, he married Rosalie Hensley at Sharon Springs. In the 1940s they moved to Richfield where he farmed and owned and operated the Richfield Hotel.
He is survived by four sisters, Lucille Rhoads, Plains; Maxine Stegmen, Fife, Wash., Mary Ann Glenn, Fowler; and Jean Landrum, Elkhart; three brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Judy Rae; a brother; and two sisters.
