Edmond (Ed) Everette Cave
Graveside service for Edmond (Ed) Everette Cave, 75, will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Coolidge Cemetery
in Coolidge. Pastor Jim Puckett of the South Baptist Church of Syracuse will officiate.
Mr. Cave died Friday, March 30, 2001, at his daughter's home in Garden City.
He was born February 27, 1926, in Copeland, the son of Walter Alexander Cave and Ethel (Eversole) Cave. He attended school in Holly, Colo. Later, he served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Avoyel.
Mr. Cave worked as a farmer and a delivery driver for a lumber yard in Pueblo, Colo. He retired in the early 1960s.
On July 31, 1966, he was married to Martha Elizabeth (Holland) Cave in Center, Colo. She survives and lives at their home in Garden City.
Mr. Cave lived in Coolidge for 17 1/2 years before moving to Garden City in 1998. Blind from retenitous pigmentosous, he enjoyed operating a C.B. and went by the handle of "Gray Badger." He played the guitar and enjoyed Christian and older country music. He listened to Zane Grey Western novels.
He was preceded in death by his father; mother; a brother, Henry Cave; two sisters, Joy Hoggat and Ella Dawson; a grandson, James Allen McGinnis; and an infant great-grandson.
He is survived by his wife; four sons, Mike Pelc, Williamsburg, Colo., Russell Cave, Garden City, Jimmy Adams, DeQueen, Ark., and Darrell Pelc, Springdale, Ark.; three daughters, Kathy Dowen, Lamar, Colo., Neatha Fegley, Springfield, Mo., and Elisabeth Cave, Garden City; one brother, Blaine Cave, Lamar, Colo.; one sister, Gladys Brisendine, Arapaho, Colo.; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; thirteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may go to the Ed Cave Funeral Fund, in care of the Greene-Fellers Funeral Home and Monuments, P.O. Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878-1253. The family has requested no visitation.
William Jerry Kennedy
William Jerry Kennedy, 61, of Oklawaha, Fla., died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Ocala, Fla.
He was born Dec. 4, 1939, at Scott City, the son of Charles and Forrest Kennedy.
Mr. Kennedy had served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years as a military policeman. Upon his discharge from the service, he moved in 1969 to Junction City where he lived until 1990 and retired as captain of the Junction City police force. In 1990, he moved to Oklawaha, where he was employed by the State of Florida's child enforcement agency until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Blanchette of Oklawaha; three daughters, Misty Peterson, Ocala, Karen Castro, Sequin, Texas, and Cindy Brickei, Topeka; a son, Joshua Kennedy, Ocala; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Kennedy, Donna, Texas, and Jim Kennedy, Scott City; and three sisters, Mary Lou Oeser, Scott City, Joan Showalter and Barbara Drew, both of Garden City. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; a sister; his first wife, Joyce Vaughn; and a son, Billy.
Memorials in his name are suggested to the donor's choice.
Ernest A. "Ernie" Hohrmann
Ernest A. "Ernie" Hohrmann, 81, of Hutchinson, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Aug. 3, 1919, at Strongfield, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of Emil and Anna (Peter) Hohrmann.
A Hutchinson resident since 1997, moving from Garden City, he was also a former resident of Dodge City. He was the former owner and operator of Hohrmann Construction Co. in Garden City and was a farmer in Grant County. He belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Garden City.
On July 15, 1941, he married Floreine Kemmer at Alice, N.D. She died Feb. 16, 1980. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Hans Hohrmann; and two sisters, Dora Byers and Johanna Scott.
He married Maxine Dew Carroll on Sept. 20, 1984, at Raton, N.M. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Gary E. Hohrmann, Columbus, Neb., and Lynn J. Horhmann, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Helen Carleton, Rockport, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials are suggested to South Hutchinson Christian Church, in care of the mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Howard M. Sheets
A celebration of life service for Howard M. Sheets, 79, will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Janet Hernandez officiating.
Additional service is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Potter, Neb., with the Rev. Mary Frohs officiating. Inurnment will be in Potter Cemetery.
Mr. Sheets died Monday, March 26, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital.
He was born June 17, 1921, at Lorenzo, Neb., the son of William C. and Willimina (Ritchey) Sheets.
A carpenter, he had been a resident of Garden City since 1973, moving from Rye, Colo. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Garden City, was the past president of Lions Club and a former member of American Legion, both at Dalton, Neb., and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
On Feb. 22, 1922, he married Carol M. Baumbach at San Jose, Calif. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Phillip and Harold Sheets, both of Garden City; a daughter, Marlene Ziegler, Loveland, Colo.; a half brother, William Sheets, and a sister, Eunice Cook, both of Sequiem, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and several half brothers and half sisters.
There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Audio Reader Program, in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.
Oren Jared Reusser
ULYSSES - Oren Jared Reusser, 90, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
He was born July 17, 1910, at Moundridge, the son of David A. and Emma (Stucky) Reusser. After graduating from Clearwater High School in 1928, he began farming with his father and brothers in Haskell County, which he did for five years until he saved enough money to go to school.
He then enrolled at Kansas State University, graduating with high honors in 1937, with a bachelor's degree in agriculture. He did advanced studies at Iowa State University before moving to Garden City where he was a county Extension agent for seven years. In 1946, he moved to Grant County where he farmed until he turning 80. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ulysses.
On June 20, 1937, he married Dorothy V. Yergler at Clearwater. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Betty L. Thompson, Annapolis, Md., and Joyce E. Stuntzner, Coos Bay, Ore.; two brothers, Alton Reusser, Wellington, and Rae Reusser of Viola; a sister, Florence Shermer, Conway Springs; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry D. Reusser; two brothers, Martin S. Reusser and Jennings Reusser; and a sister, Lydia Solter.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Ulysses, with Dr. Max Clayton officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Clearwater Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses, with the family receiving friends from 3 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church or to Youthville, both in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Donald W. Jennings
Donald W. Jennings, 60, of Liberal, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at his home in Liberal.
Born at Hugoton on Dec. 31, 1940, he was the son of Villa and Mildred "Mitt" (Session) Jennings. He attended school in Garden City.
Mr. Jennings was employed as a butcher for Smith Packing Co. for 10 years and later was maintenance supervisor at St. Catherine Hospital. Upon moving to Liberal he was the store manager at Alco Store for three years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Garden City.
In 1960 he married Carol Nelson in Garden City. In 1983 he married Donna Sanchez in Garden City.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy Wade and Villa Scott Jennings, both of Springfield, Ill.; a stepson, Michael Whitis, Milwaukee; his mother, two brothers, Kenneth Villa and Mitcheal Jennings, two sisters, Loretta Jennings and Patricia McIntyre, all of Garden City; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Hugoton Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Mortuary, Liberal.
Nancy Lee Holum
Nancy Lee Holum, 63, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born May 31, 1937, at Sigourney, Iowa, and grew up in the Sigourney and What Cheer area. She attended schools in What Cheer.
In December 1970, she married Larry Holum in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They moved to Garden City in 1990. A homemaker, she was a self-employed pet groomer and enjoyed working with her dogs. She attended First Christian Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Rick Schiphonic, Kahoka, Mo., and Tony Gerig, Sigourney; two daughters, Susan Gerig, Sigourney, and Diana Greene, Amana, Iowa; her mother, Marian Fry, Delta, Iowa; two brothers, Gene Coble, Delta, and Tom Coble, Keswick, Iowa; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, Cliff Coble.
There will be no visitation. A private family service is planned for later in Iowa.
