James J. Sitz
Private family graveside service for James J. Sitz, two-day-old son of Steven and Emily Anne (Frazier) Sitz of Dodge City, was Friday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. Robert Cousins officiating.
James died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Katie Sitz and Meg Sitz, both of the home; and his grandparents, John and Clara Frazier, Garden City, and Herb and Pat Sitz, Arlington, Texas.
Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, was in charge of arrangements.
Robert H. Fuller
Robert H. Fuller, 80, of Garden City, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born April 7, 1920, at Mitchell, the son of George and Lydia (Rife) Fuller. He attended Mitchell School in Rice County and graduated from Little River High School. He graduated with a major in botany and a minor in secondary education from Fort Hays State University.
Mr. Fuller worked in the Soil Conservation Service offices in Ellsworth, Russell and Hugoton before moving to Garden City in 1961 where he was the district soil conservationist. In 1980, he opened Fuller Real Estate Office where he did real estate and appraiser work.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Garden City where he served as head usher and deacon. He also belonged to the Garden City Rotary Club and the Fort Hays State University Endowment Association, and was a 32nd degree member of Little River Masonic Lodge.
He was program chairman of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, was past president of the Kansas American Baptist Men's Association, belonged to several committees of Camp Christy, and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He enjoyed his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities and also enjoyed traveling and hunting.
On June 9, 1946, he married Marjorie Spreier at Rozel. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Marsha Siefkas, Eads, Colo., and Rhonda Goodloe, Garden City; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Dick Odum officiating. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Monday in Larned Cemetery, Larned.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Camp Christy, in care of the funeral home.
James Dewey "Jim" Smith
Funeral for James Dewey "Jim" Smith, 77, a former Garden City resident, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita, with burial following in Resthaven Cemetery.
Mr. Smith, a longtime resident of Haysville, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001.
He was born Aug. 27, 1927, to Homer Earl and Mary Myrtle (Brown) Smith of Columbus.
In 1942, he went to Vancouver, Wash., where he was employed by Henry Kaiser at Kaiser Shipyards during World War II, returning to Kansas in 1946. He worked as an electrician for 17 years for Boeing Aircraft Co., and retired in 1962 from the Coleman Company where he was an electrician for 17 years. His hobbies were model railroading, model airplanes and talking with his many friends on his CB radio.
On May 16, 1947, he married Beatrice Herron McCammon. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, James Darrell, Wichita, Robert Charles, Harsens Island, Mich., and Thomas Earl, Cummings, Ga.; a daughter, Lillian Elaine, Wichita; a stepdaughter, Willena Kaye Schnieder, Florence, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris L. Moore, Wichita. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Glenn Wallace; his parents; and a sister, Lucille Smith.
Henry Giskie
Funeral for Henry Giskie, 92, of Holly, Colo., will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Eads, Colo., with the Rev. Ralph Plummer officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. MT Saturday in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune.
Mr. Giskie died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Prowers Medical Center in Lamar, Colo.
He was born Aug. 29, 1908, at Bison.
Survivors include his children, Kenneth Giskie, Garden City, and Glendoris Reinert, Lamar; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; two half sisters; four sisters; one grandson; and his wife, Lottie (Foos) Giskie.
Visitation is prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to Holly Nursing Care Center or the donor's choice, both in care of Brown Funeral Home, Box 432, Eads, CO 81036.
John H. Forcum
Vigil service for John H. Forcum, 58, of Garden City, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Joseph Bahr officiating. An additional Mass and burial is planned for next week in Houston.
Mr. Forcum died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Finney County.
He was born April 3, 1942, at Eureka, the son of Harold Lester and Mary Eleanor (McKenzie) Forcum. He grew up in the Piedmont area, graduated from Piedmont High School, and attended one semester at Emporia State University.
After serving in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War, he attended and graduated from Wichita State University and worked for J.I. Case in Wichita.
On Sept. 9, 1967, he married Josephine "Jo" Chavez. In 1981, they moved to Bolingbrook, Ill., where he continued to work for J.I. Case. In 1990, he and his family moved to Houston where he soon began working for the Internal Revenue Service. He continued to work as a revenue officer for the IRS after moving to Garden City in 1995.
Mr. Forcum was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church where he served on the formation commission and helped with the community life commission. He also conducted tax seminars in the Garden City area and enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Forcum, Julie Forcum and Janeen Forcum, all of Houston; his mother, Newton; and three sisters, Marsha Wolfe, Newton, Janet Groninga, Overland Park, and Ardys Bader, Clearwater. He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.
Leonard Hermreck
A prayer service for Leonard Hermreck, 75, of Williamsburg, was 3 p.m. Sunday at Dengel & Sons Mortuary, Ottawa. Funeral Mass was 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Emerald, with the Rev. Michael Hawkins officiating. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Homewood.
Mr. Hermreck died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at his home in Williamsburg.
He was born April 19, 1925, at Scipio, the son of Christopher W. and Catherine (Pickert) Hermreck.
On March 5, 1946, he married Freida Agnes Fischer at Homewood. She died Dec. 16, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maureen Walsh and Joan Kramer; and one grandson.
A lifetime resident of Anderson County, Mr. Hermreck had lived in the Emerald community after his marriage. A lifelong farmer and stockman, he grew corn, milo, soybeans and wheat in addition to handling cattle. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Emerald and the Kansas Livestock Association.
He is survived by two sons, Dale Hermreck, Ottawa, and Glenn Hermreck, Garnett; five daughters, Linda Zwiener, Garnett, Wanda Wilkinson, a former Garden City resident now living in Leawood, Carol Robbins, Waverly, Lois Newman, Manhattan, and Colleen Snell, Burwell, Neb.; five brothers, Eugene Hermreck, Greeley, Omer Hermreck, Garnett, Herby Hermreck and Norman Hermreck, both of Temecula, Calif., and Henry Hermreck, Overland Park; three sisters, Florence Shields and Rita Osler, both of Garnett, and Doris Smith, Burlington, Wis.; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, KS 66067.
Everett Blackburn
SCOTT CITY - Rosary for Everett Blackburn, 46, of Big Spring, Texas, was 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel, Big Spring. Funeral Mass will be 7 tonight at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Big Spring, with the Rev. James Plagens officiating. Funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum, Big Spring, with burial to follow in Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
Mr. Blackburn died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at his home in Big Spring.
He was born at Scott City on Feb. 9, 1954.
He came to Big Spring from Emporia State University and spent 11 years with the Big Spring Independent School District - eight years at the high school and three years at Washington Elementary - before joining Howard College 11 years ago.
Mr. Blackburn was nationally certified as an athletic trainer by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and was licensed by the State of Texas as an athletic trainer. He was active in a variety of professional organizations, including the NATA and the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association (SATA) annual clinic, and the NATA annual meeting.
In 1992, he was presented with the Eddie Wojicki Award, an award selected by his peers and which goes to the best athletic trainer in Texas and Oklahoma. He was inducted into SATA's Hall of Fame in 1993. In 1999, he was inducted into the NATA's Hall of Fame and was named NATA Trainer of the Year.
He was a member of the Texas Society for Sports Medicine, the American Trauma Society, the National Strength Coaches Association, the Justin Rodeo Sports Medicine Program, and St. Thomas Catholic Church.
On June 10, 2000, he married Gloria Mendez at Big Spring. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Sandra Mendez, Lubbock, Texas; his mother, Gladys Blackburn, Scott City; an aunt; an uncle; and several cousins.
