Emerson E. George

Johnson CITY - Funeral for Emerson E. George, 72, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church, Johnson City, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Munice Cemetery in Dewey County, Okla.

Mr. George died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson City.

He was born Dec. 20, 1928, at Canton, Okla., the son of Harold Emmerson and Minnie Maude (Chapman) George. He graduated from Seiling (Okla.) High School in 1947 and attended Oklahoma State University.

A resident of Stanton County since 1956, Mr. George was the manager of the Johnson Co-op Car Care Center. He was a member of Pheasants Forever and was a Master Mason at Masonic Lodge No. 441 in Johnson City.

He is survived by a son, Eddie George, Syracuse; and a granddaughter.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Stanton County Recreation Little League Equipment Fund, in care of the funeral home, Box 715, Johnson City, KS 67855.

Sylvia E. Bennett

TRIBUNE - Sylvia E. Bennett, 83, a former Tribune resident, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Fort Smith, Ark.

She was born June 30, 1917, at Plainview, Neb., the daughter of Julius and Annie (Anderson) Rasmussen.

A homemaker, she had been an Oklahoma resident since 1993, moving from Tribune. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Leoti.

On Nov. 13, 1934, she married Kelly Bennett at Syracuse. He died June 30, 1987, at Tribune. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, a sister and a brother.

Survivors include a son, Dwight Bennett, Fort Lupton, Colo.; a daughter, Sheila Davis, Pocola, Okla.; three brothers, Ralph Rasmussen, Barstow, Calif., Jay Rasmussen, Holyoke, Colo., and Milford Rasmussen, Lamar, Colo.; three sisters, Violet Seba, Tribune, Freda Sheen, Elko, Nev., and Norma Lindholm, Burlington, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune, with Glenn Calhoun officiating.

Price & Sons Funeral Home, Tribune, is in charge of arrangements.

Zoe Hilker

CIMARRON - Zoe Hilker, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at her home in Cimarron.

She was born April 21, 1921, near Bloom in rural Ford County, the daughter of Clark and Ada (Markley) Shelton.

On Aug. 23, 1943, she married Gene Hilker at Dodge City.

She graduated from Dodge City Junior College in 1957 with an associate's degree in elementary education.

A Cimarron resident from 1946 to 1967, she lived in Wichita until her retirement in 1986 when she returned to Cimarron. She worked at Beech Aircraft from 1942 to 1946, was a unit clerk at St. Francis Hospital, attended the Wichita Board of Realtors Real Estate School and was a real estate agent for 10 years in Wichita.

Mrs. Hilker was a committee woman for the Republican Party in Gray County, was past president of PEO, a member of the Southwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging, United Methodist Women, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Cimarron United Methodist Church, and was a board member of the Wichita Board of Realtors.

She is survived by two sons, David and Steve, both of Cimarron; a daughter, Karen Hilker Jaffe, Short Hills, N.J.; a brother, Clark Shelton Jr., Kent, Wash.; a sister, Lois Holladay, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cimarron United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Frank DeFisher officiating. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Burkhart's Gray County Funeral Chapel, Cimarron. Memorials are suggested to the Cimarron United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Fund, in care of the funeral chapel, P.O. Box 786, Cimarron, KS 67835.

Maurice E. "Tad" Glasse

Maurice E. "Tad" Glasse, 68, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Sept. 28, 1932, at Caldwell, the son of Carey Sheldon and Isa Mabel (Bules) Glasse. He attended schools at Caldwell, graduated from Caldwell High School in 1950, and attended Garden City Community College where he played football and basketball.

A Garden City resident since 1965, Mr. Glasse worked at Streeter Cleaners, later becoming the owner and operator. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served in many capacities including teaching adult Sunday School for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed his family, sports, gardening, carpentry and traveling.

On Aug. 13, 1952, he married JoAnn Streeter at San Francisco. She survives. He is also survived by four daughters, Kathryn Askren and Lisa Harris, both of Garden City, Toni Horton, Leoti, and Jennifer Quinn, Olathe; a sister, "Peachie" Kobylk, Sterling, Alaska; two brothers, William Sheldon, Lockwood, N.Y., and Everett "Tuck" Glasse, Wichita; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pauline Fair and Pete Crumbliss; and a brother, Robert Eugene Glasse.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with military graveside rites conducted by the Garden City Area Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or St. Catherine Hospice, both in care of the funeral home.

Simon R. "Sy" Pochop

SCOTT CITY - Vigil prayer service for Simon R. "Sy" Pochop, 74, will be 7 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City, with the Rev. David Kraus officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Mr. Pochop died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Oct. 25, 1926, at Beardslee, the son of Peter Paul and Rosina (Jesch) Pochop.

A resident of Scott City since 1951, moving from Atwood, he was a lineman and substation technician for Wheatland Electric until his retirement on Nov. 30, 1987.

Mr. Pochop was a member of the Catholic faith and a former member of the Lions Club at Scott City.

On June 21, 1957, he married Alice E. Davis. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Stack, Amarillo, Texas, and Faith I. Davis, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Mead, Belpre; a son, James D. Minney, Greeley, Colo.; a brother, John E. Pochop, Colton, Calif.; three sisters, Jo Ann Griggs, Colby, Rose A. Bayes, El Segundo, Calif., and Monica A. Solko, Herndon; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Visitation hours are until 7 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials to the Simon R. Pochop Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Fredrick Eldeen Tyler

SUBLETTE - Fredrick Eldeen Tyler, 70, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at his home in Sublette.

He was born Sept. 2, 1930, at Fowler, the son of Ernest Everett and Barbara Fern (Bishop) Tyler.

Mr. Tyler had been a lifetime resident of this area, except for a period of time spent in central California from 1957 to 1971. He worked for Hoskinson Implement Co., Copeland, and later for Boeing Aircraft at Atwater, Calif., for 11 years. He worked for the sheriff's department in Merced County, Calif., from 1962 to 1971, and was the Sublette City Marshall.

He was a rural mail carrier for Sublette for several years and also was owner and operator of Copeland Cycle Rinse from 1976 to 1995. He was a member of Sublette Southern Baptist Church and a former member of the Kansas Peace Officers Association.

On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Virginia Ellen Menzie at Copeland. She survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Deanna Lynne Paris, Sublette, Joni Rae Campbell, Garden City, and Jo Ellen Hadley, Dodge City; a brother, Jon C. Tyler, Yuma, Ark.; a sister, Joyce Reynolds, Copeland; a sister-in-law, Carrie Tyler, Copeland; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ron Tyler; and a granddaughter.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sublette Southern Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dan Pearce officiating. Burial will be in Copeland Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to the church, Sublette Emergency Medical Technicians or Copeland Cemetery, all in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
