Funeral for Ron Coates
HOLCOMB - Funeral for Ron Coates, 64, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald Carter officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.
Mr. Coates died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Jan. 2, 1937, at Garden City, the son of Henry R. and Nellie S. (Tope) Coates.
A lifetime Finney County resident, he had worked for the Finney County Road Department and was a member of First Christian Church of Garden City. He enjoyed fishing, making people laugh, time with his grandchildren, woodworking, whistling and playing the harmonica.
On June 21, 1985, he married Anita Hahn at Syracuse. She survives. He also is survived by four daughters, Cindy Blick, Hutchinson, Vicky Charbonneau, Lenexa, and Stacy Hurley and Becky Meng, both of Garden City; four brothers, Leonard, Vernon and Dennis Coates, all of Garden City, and Bob Coates, Wiley, Colo.; two sisters, Freda Norman and Jeanie Montgomery, both of Phoenix; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Don Coates; and another brother, Jim Coates.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to Sunshine Nursing or Victory in the Valley of Wichita, both in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Ida J. Daniels
SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Ida J. Daniels, 105, was to be 10:30 this morning at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, with the Rev. Martin Gauby officiating. Burial was to be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Mrs. Daniels died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.
She was born July 3, 1895, in Lincoln County, Ill., the daughter of Lee Durham and Rosa May (Martin) Binns Jr. A Scott County resident since 1907, moving from Lincoln County, she was a homemaker and a farmer's wife.
She and William H. Daniels were married Nov. 24, 1915, at Scott City. They went to Florida for many winters and the native American Indians taught her the art of pine needle basket making. She also enjoyed the beach and was an avid collector of shells from Florida and other countries. She and her husband collected rocks and made jewelry. He died Oct. 15, 1976, at Scott City. She also was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Daniels was a charter member of the H.G.L. Club of Southwest Scott County, and belonged to the American Iris Society and the Scott County Garden Club. She loved flowers, especially the iris.
She is survived by two sons, Marvin Daniels and Raymond Daniels, both of Scott City; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Memorials are suggested to the Scott County VIP Center or Park Lane Nursing Home, both in care of the funeral home, Scott City.
Verl Leon Timken
HUGOTON - Funeral for Verl Leon Timken, 51, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Rob Hinkle officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Mr. Timken died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at his home in Hugoton.
He was born Nov. 25, 1949, at Dodge City, the son of Linly K. and Hazel L. (Hogan) Timken. A lifetime resident, he was a farmer, artist and musician, being an accomplished percussionist. He was a member of Hugoton Baptist Church and enjoyed electric trains.
On Oct. 5, 1985, he married Judy N. Nesbit at Fort Worth, Texas. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Bradley J. Timken, Ulysses; two stepsons, Larry Cates and David Cates, both of Fort Worth; his parents, Hugoton; two sisters, Linda Kay Johnson, Slidell, La., and Janice Turner, Lindsborg; four stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepgranddaughter.

Dale D. Drohman
SCOTT CITY - Dale D. Drohman, 62, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Scott County Hospital, Scott City, from cancer.
He was born Nov. 30, 1938, at Deshler, Neb., the son of Lewis and Hulda (Kapperman) Drohman. He graduated from Longmont (Colo.) High School. A Scott County resident since 1958, moving from Longmont, he was a custom harvester for 37 years.
He was a member of Community Christian Church of Scott City, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, an honorary chapter member of FFA, and belonged to the Modoc Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
On April 25, 1958, he married Janice Knowski at Longmont. She survives. He also is survived by two sons, Larry Drohman, Garden City, and Justin Drohman, Scott City; a daughter, Sheri Scott, Scott City; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Acey Drohman, Fort Collins, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Larry Drohman.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Community Christian Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Jeff Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the church, in care of the funeral home.
Verne D. Hinkle
Verne D. Hinkle, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at his home in Hutchinson.
He was born Dec. 22, 1925, at Pierceville, the son of Charles and Frances (Kelso) Hinkle. He attended Garden City High School.
A Hutchinson resident since 1994, moving from Sublette, he was a retired farmer and a member of Church of Christ, Hutchinson.
On April 21, 1943, he married Hazel L. States at Garden City. She survives. He also is survived by a son, Jim, Sublette; two daughters, Verna Neel and Patsy "Patti" Ferguson, both of Hutchinson; two brothers, Willard, Garden City, and George, Pueblo, Colo.; two sisters, Dorothy Schulz, Garden City, and Leona Anderson, Sedan; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard; and two sisters, Nellie Scallon and Emily Baker.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, with David Tappe officiating.
Visitation hours are from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Maude Carpenter Children's Home, in care of the mortuary, 1219 N. Main St., Hutchinson, KS 67501.
William Henry "Bill" Burch
SYRACUSE - William Henry "Bill" Burch, 80, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at his home in Syracuse.
He was born Jan. 23, 1921, at Selkirk, the son of Lewis and Lillian (Page) Burch. He attended school in Leoti and had lived in Wichita County from his birth until moving to Syracuse in the 1950s.
Mr. Burch farmed for himself and did custom farming until his retirement in the 1980s. He enjoyed farming, playing pool, collecting and restoring Ford tractors and, most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
On June 1, 1940, he married Zelma Frances Heuszel. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Frances Henry, Gunnison, Colo., and Evelyn Kay Farmer, Independence; a brother, Donald Burch, Syracuse; two sisters, Edna Thompson, Kendall, and Betty Lou Shetterly, Burwell, Neb.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, in 1993, and his father, in 1979.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at the Wesleyan Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Rod Collins officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at 1:30 p.m. CST in Leoti Cemetery.
Visitation hours are until 8 p.m. MST tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST Tuesday at Greene-Fellers Funeral Home, Syracuse. A flower card reading will take place at the funeral home at 7 p.m. MST Tuesday. Visitation at the church will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. MST Wednesday.

Alphons Francis Nau
LAKIN - Funeral Mass for Alphons Francis Nau, 88, of Jetmore, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Jetmore, with the Rev. Robert Schremmer officiating. Family rosary will be at 6:30 tonight, followed by vigil service at 7:30 at the church. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
Mr. Nau died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore.
He was born Jan. 30, 1913, at Windthorst, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Schreck) Nau.
A lifetime resident of the Jetmore area, he was a farmer, rancher and fur trader. He belonged to St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the American Trapper Association and the Kansas Fur Association.
On May 17, 1943, he married Anna Mary Beller at Bueyeros, N.M. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Norbert, Gering, Neb.; eight daughters, Marie Gilchrist, Lakin, Betty Nau, Pawnee Rock, Margaret Phillips and Francine Dixon, both of Jetmore, Stella Linder, Hanahan, S.C., Loraine Perkins, Westminster, Colo., Christine Herbert and Geneva Cecil, both of Dodge City; 28 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Nau; a sister, Anna Mae Ackerman; and a grandson.
