Frank G. Garcia
Vigil service for Frank G. Garcia, 48, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Carlos Garcia Pena officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Garcia died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Aug. 25, 1952, at Moorhead, Minn., the son of Manuel G. and Nicolasa (Garza) Garcia.
A Garden City resident since 1994, moving from Texas, he was a beef packer at IBP. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus First Degree, Crusillo and the Sideliner Booster Club.
On June 3, 1978, he married Ana M. Estrada at Cactus, Texas. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Frank Garcia Jr., Jacksonville, N.C., Edward L. Garcia and Adam Garcia, both of Garden City; three brothers, Manuel Garcia Jr. and Rene Garcia, both of Garden City, and Bruce Garcia, Kearny, Neb.; two sisters, Rosalinda Perez, Garden City, and Betty Vega, Carrizo Springs, Texas; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mike Garcia.
Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Clarence William Simmonds
SYRACUSE - Funeral for Clarence William Simmonds, 76, was to be 10 a.m. MST today at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. William Fitzgerrel officiating. The service was to be preceded by a flower card reading and followed by a family dinner.
A second service is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST Wednesday at the Country Church in Lerado in Reno County, with visitation from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Graveside committal will take place in Lerado Cemetery.
Mr. Simmonds died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at the Greeley County Long Term Care Unit in Tribune.
He was born Aug. 25, 1924, at Kingman, the son of Earl and Rosa (Cole) Simmonds. He attended school in Liberal before joining the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Simmonds farmed and ranched north of Syracuse for 53 years having previously lived in Liberal, Pratt, Hutchinson, Penalosa and Kingman. Besides farming, he raised racing horses and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Moose Lodge, Odd Fellows Lodge and Elks Lodge.
In January 1949, he married Lois Elberta McAllaster at Raton, N.M. She survives. He is also survived by a son, John Simmonds, Wichita; three sisters, Irene McNary, San Antonio, Elda Linderman, Lodi, Calif., and Vada Newton, Fort Worth, Texas; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Anthony Jesse Orozco
Vigil service for Anthony Jesse Orozco, 57, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. James Baker as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Orozco died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at his home in Garden City.
He was born July 23, 1943, at Hoisington, the son of Jesse and Elizabeth (Garcia) Orozco.
A lifetime Garden City resident, Mr. Orozco was an animal control officer for the City of Garden City. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
On June 13, 1964, he married Delfina Marie Guillen at Garden City. She died Oct. 22, 1999, at Garden City. He was also preceded in death by a son, Dabian Orozco; and two grandchildren.
He is survived by a son, Anthony J. Orozco Jr., and two daughters, Rebecca M. Orozco and Mary Elizabeth Orozco, all of Garden City; a brother, Robert L. Orozco, and a sister, Anita M. Gonzalez, both of Garden City; and 11 grandchildren.

Marilyn Jean Burry
SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Marilyn Jean Burry, 70, of Dodge City, was to be 1:30 p.m. today at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with Bryan Cooper officiating. Burial was to be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
Mrs. Burry died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.
She was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Ness County, the daughter of Frank William and Bernadine Alice (Edwards) Petersilie.
A homemaker, she had also worked for the Beeline Fashion Co., where she was the top salesperson for the company in the Dodge City area. A creative person, she enjoyed crafts (with making bears being her specialty) and she also started her own line of clothing, the "J.B. Casual Collection."
On Dec. 10, 1978, she married Vilas R. Burry at Albuquerque, N.M. He died Jan. 23, 1993.
She is survived by three daughters, Lana Cramer, Scott City, Janet Wantland and Bonnie Wellen, both of Dodge City; a sister, Jackie Cook, Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, Frank W. Petersilie, St. Augustine, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Renal Care Center of Dodge City, in care of the funeral home.
Clarence F. "Tommy" Thomas Jr.
Funeral for Clarence F. "Tommy" Thomas Jr., 78, was to be 10:30 this morning at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Raymond Raley officiating. Burial was to be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Thomas died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born March 23, 1922, at Garden City, the son of Clarence F. Sr. and Glenn (Baker) Thomas.
A Garden City resident since 1945, moving from Kinsley, he had worked for the Garden City Fire Department for 31 years, serving as fire chief for 15 years. He had also been a real estate agent and owned and operated the Coffee Ann Restaurant for many years in Garden City.
Mr. Thomas was a member of the Community Church of Garden City and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.
On March 31, 1946, he married Emma Lou Behymer at Dodge City. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Ronald Lee Thomas, Torrance, Calif., and Terry Lynn Thomas, of the home; a daughter, Marilyn Mayo, El Dorado; a sister-in-law, Frances Thomas, Topeka; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Bethphage, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
Juanita B. Decker
Funeral for Juanita B. Decker, 77, of Dodge City, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with Garrell Kidd officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
Mrs. Decker died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.
She was born June 12, 1923, at Barnsdall, Okla., the daughter of Wesley and Stella (Smith) Boyles. She attended schools in Barnsdall and graduated from Oklahoma City General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.
Mrs. Decker worked as a registered nurse in the early 1950s until marrying and starting her family. A homemaker, she was a lifetime member of The Church of Christ.
She and Albert T. Decker were married March 22, 1949, at Holdenville, Okla. They had been residents of Dodge City since 1951. He died there on Sept. 4, 1999. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, L.J. and Wesley Jr.
Survivors include a son, A.T. Decker, Garden City; a daughter, Sharon Hill, Lake Forrest, Calif.; three sisters, Imogene Bailey and Margaret Langford, both of Oklahoma City, and Lorena Shinn, Yukon, Okla.; a grandson; and three granddaughters.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Maude Carpenter Children's Home or Manor of the Plains, both in care of the funeral home.
James E. "Hap" Cornett
Retired Major James E. "Hap" Cornett, 70, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Garden City.
He was born April 14, 1930, at Marlow, Okla., the son of Clifford and Kitty (Stotts) Cornett. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1948, joined the military, and lived in various places before returning to Garden City in 1971 and working as a farmer.
Mr. Cornett was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Harry H. Renick American Legion Post No. 9, John J. Haskell VFW Post No. 2279 and B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge No. 1404, and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 3124.
On April 9, 1952, he married Dixie June Anderson at Raton, N.M. She died Jan. 14, 2000, at Garden City. He was also preceded in death by a brother; and a daughter, Jackie Marie Cornett.
He is survived by a daughter, Vicki Turley, and two sons, David Cornett and Jim Cornett, all of Garden City; a sister, Peggy Johnson, Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian Church, Garden City, with the Revs. Dave Sweley and Arbuary Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
