Connie L. Simon

Rosary prayer service for Connie L. Simon, 67, of Lawrence, will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence, with the family greeting friends after the service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lawrence. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Simon died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community in Lawrence.

Born at Leoti on April 7, 1933, she was the daughter of William B. and Helen (Kreutzer) Betlach. She graduated from Wichita County Community High School in Leoti.

A registered nurse, she received her nurse's training at St. Catherine Hospital School of Nursing in Garden City. She had been a resident of Lawrence for one year, moving from Oklahoma City.

On Oct. 26, 1955, she married Marvin A. Simon at Garden City. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Brad Simon, Lawrence; four sisters, Juanita Simonds, Grand Island, Neb., Twila Simon, Las Vegas, Ruth Thesing, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and Yvonne Wittreich, Fort Collins, Colo.; and one grandson.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, both in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.

Lee Scott Helm

Johnson CITY - Funeral for Lee Scott Helm, 35, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel, Johnson City. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Elmhurst Cemetery, Guymon, Okla.

Mr. Helm died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at Johnson City.

He was born May 2, 1965, at Guymon, the son of Earl and Dorothy Jo (Botts) Helm. He was employed at Winger Feed Yard, Johnson City, and worked as a cattle foreman.

He is survived by his parents, Stratford, Okla.; a son, Levi Scott Helm Thornton, Guymon; a daughter, Tage Lynn Helm, Manter; two brothers, Earl Helm Jr., Guymon, and Billy Helm, Salado, Texas; a sister, Cathy Thornton, Guymon; his grandmother, Juanita Botts, Joplin, Mo.; and his fiancée, Amy Barber, Johnson City. He was preceded in death by two grandfathers and one grandmother.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.

Gregory Lorence Parham

Funeral for Gregory Lorence Parham, 48, of Lomega, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church, Watonga, Okla., with the Rev. Jim Forrest officiating. Burial will be in Kingfisher (Okla.) Cemetery.

Mr. Parham died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000.

He was born May 22, 1952, at Kingfisher, the son of Lorence and Marie (Homier) Parham. He graduated from Watonga High School and was a member of Omega (Okla.) Christian Church. A lifetime resident of the Lomega community, he was a farmer.

On Aug. 21, 1970, he married Charlotte Barnes at Watonga.

He is survived by his parents; two sons, Loren Parham, Watonga, and G.W. Parham, Stillwater, Okla.; a daughter, Shelia Persson, Omega; a brother, Doug Parham, Garden City; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and an infant brother.

Wilkinson Mortuary, Watonga, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen South Aller

Johnson CITY - Helen South Aller, 89, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson City.

She was born March 17, 1911, in Henry County, Ga., the daughter of Callaway Wrenly Sr. and Thena Moore (Harris) South. Her ancestors included several Colonial Southern families. She attended Fairview High School in Henry County, and took business courses at Central Night School and Georgia State College, both at Atlanta.

Mrs. Aller was a businesswoman for 36 years in Atlanta before moving to Stanton County where she worked with her husband in farming and served as a bookkeeper for the newly opened Stanton County Hospital. She began her work at the hospital on Feb. 6, 1963, and retired in February 1986. A bookkeeper and an accountant, she was responsible for setting up the original books for the hospital.

Mrs. Aller was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Big Bow and was involved with the Stanton County Senior Center at Johnson City.

On Dec. 16, 1962, she married Ralph Walter Aller at Atlanta. He died in November 1989. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rupert Wrenly and Callaway Wrenly Jr.; a sister, Irene; a niece; a nephew; a great-niece; and a great-great-nephew.

Survivors include a sister, Doris South Juhlin Fisher Clark, Cleveland; two nieces; one nephew; three great-nieces; seven great-nephews; one great-great-nephew; and two great-great-great-nephews.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Church of the Nazarene, Big Bow, with the Rev. Tom Boese officiating. Burial will be in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.

Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, both in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.

Nathan C. Sites

SCOTT CITY - Nathan C. Sites, 76, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at his home in Scott City.

He was born March 21, 1924, at Kansas City, Mo., the son of George and Julia P. (Barker) Sites.

He was a resident of Scott City from 1970, moving from Holly, Colo., until 1981 when he moved to Brownwood, Texas. He returned to Scott City in 1987.

A mechanic and heavy equipment operator, he helped build the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado, Bullshoals Dam in Arkansas, and worked for Popejoy Road Construction helping build some of the highways in western Kansas. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Civil Conservation Corp.

On March 31, 1959, he married Laura Frances Sherwood at Sidney, Neb. She died July 28, 1980, at Scott City. He was also preceded in death by a son, Nathan Sites; and a brother, Dean Sites.

He is survived by four daughters, Cheryl Hogg and Merna Sites, both of Long Beach, Calif., Patti Wright, Rifle, Colo., and Julia Beardsley, Scott City; three brothers, Noland Sites, Meridian, Calif., O.D. Sites, Plainwell, Mich., and N.G. Sites, Crosby, Texas; three sisters, Kate Flory, Russellville, Ark., Edna Todd and Loni Dennitson, both of Plainwell; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Mike McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or Scott County Health Department, both in care of the funeral home.

Catherine L. Lowry

Catherine L. Lowry, 91, of Garden City, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Harper County Community Hospital in Buffalo, Okla.

She was born Dec. 9, 1909, at May, Okla., the daughter of Jacob A. and Anna Mae (Havlic) Coonce. She grew up there and graduated from high school at May.

A Garden City resident since 1932, she worked as a cashier and clerk for McClung & Payne, Renick Drug No. 2 and for 25 years at Fankhauser Drug Store.

Mrs. Lowry was a member of the First Christian Church, Christian Womens Fellowship, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and the Senior Center of Finney County. Her special interests were traveling and playing bridge.

On Sept. 2, 1928, she married John A. "Jack" Lowry at May. He died March 2, 1970. She was also preceded in death by a brother.

Survivors include two sons, Monte J. Lowry, Eufaula, Okla., and Sam A. Lowry, Ulysses; a sister, Dorothy Morey, Laverne, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Heart Association, both in care of the funeral home.

Harold G. Barber

Harold G. Barber, 64, of Garden City died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at his home.

Barber was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Lebanon to Charles and Evelyn (Gaebel) Barber. He moved to Garden City from Manhattan in 1970 and was the owner/operator of Barbers Auto Salvage for 22 years.

Barber was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the John J. Haskell VFW Post 2279 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3124.

On June 7, 1975, he married Sue Evans in Garden City. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Anthony Barber of Kansas City, Mo.; one daughter, April Walker of Holcomb; five stepdaughters, Janice Smith of Castle Rock, Colo., Michele Owens of Fountain, Colo., Harmony Dorner of Garden City, Melody Davis of Castle Rock, Colo., and Rawslin Easterday of Douglas; one sister, Irene Renshaw of Dalhart, Texas; and 11 grandchildren.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Garden City, with Shannon Borchert officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to the service Tuesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to the Harold Barber Memorial Fund in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St.
