Margaret Braun Leiker
Margaret Braun Leiker, 97, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Terrace Garden Care Center, Garden City.
She was born Sept. 17, 1903, in Victoria, the daughter of Nicholas Braun and Catherine Riedel. She grew up in Victoria and attended schools there. Mrs. Leiker married Adolph Leiker on June 3, 1924, in Collyer. They lived there until 1934, when they moved to Garden City, where they had lived ever since.
A homemaker, Mrs. Leiker enjoyed crocheting, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died July 2, 1971. She is also preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City.
Survivors include three sons, Otto Leiker, Denver, James Leiker, Kings Mountain, N.C., and Arthur "Art" Leiker, Garden City; a daughter, Esther Smith, Garden City; two brothers, Herbert Braun, Garden City, and Lawrence Braun of Oregon; two sisters, Pauline Smith, Mexico, N.Y., and Ceciclia Adamson, Grand Junction, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren.
Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with rosary following. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at St. Mary Catholic Church, the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.

Gilbert E. Sanford
Gilbert E. Sanford, 76, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Terrace Garden Care Center, Garden City.
He was born March 1, 1924, at Belleville, the son of Edwin C. Sanford and Alice Pauline Kautz. He grew up in Belleville and graduated from Belleville High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the service, Mr. Sanford returned to Belleville. He married Delores Jean Lord on May 10, 1954, in Raton, N.M. They had lived in Garden City about 40 years.
Mr. Sanford worked most of his life as a welder and truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and the outdoors. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nadyne Spickerman.
He was a member of Bible Christian Church, VFW and American Legion, all of Garden City.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Dawn Edyne Laine of Aurora, Colo.; three sons, Don E. Sanford, Gilbert L. Sanford and Robert W. Lord, all of Garden City; a brother, Richard L. Sanford, Rexford; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. today at Bible Christian Church, the Rev. Jeff Starkey officiating. Burial was to follow in Valley View Cemetery.

David Wyatt Metcalf Queen
David Wyatt Metcalf Queen, infant, died Dec. 1, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital.
Queen was born Dec. 1, 2000, to William and Vanessa (Metcalf) Queen of Ulysses.
He is survived by two sisters, Morgan Metcalf and Gabrielle Metcalf, both of Ulysses; one uncle, Arron Metcalf of Ulysses; one aunt, Jeannie Metcalf of Ulysses; grandparents David and Credonna Metcalf of Ulysses and Bert and Lynda Queen of Amarillo, Texas.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Ulysses Cemetery
with the Rev. Barry Durkee presiding.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorials may be given to the March of Dimes for Birth Defects in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.
Jeremy S. Gossman
Jeremy S. Gossman, 15, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita, after a long illness.
He was born June 10, 1985, in Scott City to Steve and Veta (Oyler) Gossman.
Gossman was a lifetime resident of Scott City and was active in several community groups including Teens for Christ and 4-H. He was also a member of Gospel Fellowship Church.
He is survived by his parents; three brothers, Clinton Gossman of Liberal, Justin and Tyler Gossman, both of Scott City; three sisters, Tiffany Mehl, Charlotte Latta and Laura Gossman, all of Scott City; two grandmothers, Irene Gossman of Garden City and Mildred Oyler of Ingalls.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the First Baptist Church of Scott City with the Rev. Lynne Smith and Larry Taylor presiding. Burial will follow at the Scott County Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.

Julia C. Roenfeldt
Julia C. Roenfeldt, 79, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at her home in Garden City.
She was born Sept. 28, 1921, at Garden City, the daughter of Harry G. and Abigail (Newton) Carl. She grew up in northeast Finney County, and graduated from Garden City High School in 1938 and from Garden City Junior College in 1940.
Mrs. Roenfeldt had been a longtime employee of Burtis Motor Co., retiring in 1998. She was a lifetime member of Community Congregational Church, a member of the Finney County Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary No. 9, the Eight and Forty Club, and Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo. She enjoyed politics and her grandchildren's activities.
On Nov. 17, 1940, she married D.E. "Bill" Sroufe at Garden City. On Dec. 11, 1965, she married Harry F. Roenfeldt at Garden City. He died May 7, 1982. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dan Carl; and a grandson.
She is survived by three daughters, Lee Childress, Cimarron, Robin Herrman, Garden City, and Dee Carroll, Bountiful, Utah; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Community Congregational Church, Garden City, with Dr. R. Michael Lake officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Finney County Historical Society, in care of the funeral home.
Gladys H. Robbins
SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Gladys H. Robbins, 92, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, with the Rev. Mike McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Mrs. Robbins died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.
She was born Feb. 12, 1908, in Wichita County, the daughter of E.E. and Nettie (Snodgrass) Wickoff.
A lifetime Scott City resident, she had served as Scott County Clerk and Scott County Treasurer. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
On Sept. 4, 1928, she married Myron Robbins at Leoti. He died March 19, 1949, at Leoti. She was also preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include a son, Richard "Jack" Robbins, Derby; a sister, Jean Thies, Sheridan, Wyo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.
Mario Vidaurri
Vigil service for Mario Vidaurri, 64, will be 8 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Vidaurri died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Feb. 11, 1936, at San Antonio, the son of Florencio and Ramona (Tamez) Vidaurri.
He attended schools in San Antonio and worked for several years there as a deputy sheriff. He also served for eight years in the National Guard and had worked for nine years in quality control at IBP.
On March 1, 1968, he married Margie Acuna at San Antonio. They moved to Ulysses in 1976, to Lakin in 1981, and to Garden City in 1987.
Mr. Vidaurri was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his granddaughters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Debora Whatley, Garden City; a sister, Olga Vidaurri, San Antonio; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Anthony Vidaurri; two brothers; and five sisters.
