Leonard Cecil Bryan
HUGOTON - Funeral for Leonard Cecil Bryan, 82, of Garden City, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Paul's Memorial Chapel, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in Cullison Cemetery, Cullison.
Mr. Bryan died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
He was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Pratt County, the son of Harvey and Myrtle (Sheppard) Bryan.
Mr. Bryan was a farmer and had been employed by Parker Grain. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by two sons, Bruce Bryan, Garden City, and Greg Bryan, Savannah, Ga.; a daughter, Anita Trindle, Kingfisher, Okla.; a brother, Earl Bryan, Hugoton; a sister, Edith King, Emporia; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson.
Paul's Funeral Home, Hugoton, is in charge of arrangements.
Charles A. Patterson
Charles A. Patterson, 48, of Mahaska, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Bryan Lincoln General Hospital in Lincoln, Neb.
He was born June 14, 1952, at Garden City.
A resident of Mahaska since 1983, Mr. Patterson was a plumber/electrician at Tetra Micronutrient in Fairbury, Neb. He was a the present mayor of Mahaska, served as councilman for many years, was the Mahaska Cemetery
sexton, served on the Community Center Board, was a member of the rural fire district and was the City of Mahaska water superintendent.
He is survived by his wife, Judy (Clower) Patterson, of the home; a son, Steven, Grand Island, Neb.; his parents, John and Johanna Patterson, Garden City; two brothers, Michael Patterson, Maple Hill, and Patrick, Atlanta; five sisters, Johnita Patterson, Mahaska, Kathy Herschberger, Denver, Paula Kinkade, Garden City, Vicki Jones and Connie Ginest, both of Hutchinson; 26 nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church, Mahaska. Memorial Mass will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Dominic Church in Garden City.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice, in care of 305 Highway Ave., Mahaska, KS 66955.
There will be no visitation. Burial is planned for later in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Eugene C. Latham
SCOTT CITY - Eugene C. Latham, 72, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Scott City.
He was born March 9, 1928, at Winona, the son of Frank and Bertha (Nelson) Latham.
A Scott City resident since 1957, moving from Oakley, he was a farmer and a truck driver. He belonged to the VIP Center, Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association.
On Sept. 13, 1947, he married Ruth Anne Allen at Winona. She died in May 1994 at Scott City. On May 25, 1978, he married Ruby Ivey at Scott City.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce Latham and Steve Latham, both of Scott City; three daughters, Deborah Beeson, Hutchinson, Pam Faurot, Scott City, and Tina Kuhlman, Dayton, Nev.; two brothers, Lloyd Latham, Denver, and Delbert Latham, Greeley, Colo.; a sister, Eleanor Latham; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell Latham.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Scott City, with the Rev. John Warring officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials to the Eugene Latham Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Harriet E. Wheeler
Harriet E. Wheeler, 83, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Aug. 3, 1917, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur William and Edna Olanda Thompson Nelson. A Garden City resident since 1946, moving from Seattle, Wash., she had been the owner and operator of Wheeler Liquor Store in Garden City for many years.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar Society, Neuman Club, American Legion and VFW Ladies' Auxillary and she loved songs from the 1930s and 1940s.
In June of 1943, she married John P. Wheeler at Fort Myers, Fla. He died Feb. 20, 1971, at Garden City.
Survivors include two sons, William L. Wheeler, Topeka, and John P. Wheeler Jr., Garden City; a daughter, Susan J. Bednasek, Wheatland, Wyo.; a brother, Clay Nelson, Castle Rock, Colo.; a sister, Betty Nilsson, Fallbrook, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Vigil services will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, the Rev. James Baker presiding. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home.

Kenneth M. Becker
Kenneth M. Becker, 76, of Garden City died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
Becker was born on Oct. 6, 1924, to William and Frances (Martin) Becker in Macksville.
He moved to Garden City in 1942 from his boyhood home of Macksville and lived there ever since, working as a farmer. Becker enjoyed bowling, trap shooting, hunting and fishing.
Becker was a member of the Garden City Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and the Eagles Lodge.
He married Opal Slawson on Aug. 16, 1944, in Garden City, she survives.
Becker is also survived by two sons, Kenny and Scott Becker of Garden City; one sister, Freda Greathouse of Garden City; and five grandchildren.
Two brothers, Everett and Gerald Becker, died earlier.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with the Rev. Dave Sweley presiding. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Garden City with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Garden City Masonic Lodge.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until the service Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home.
Memorials may be sent to St. Catherine Hospice or the Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Maggie Eunice Broadfoot
GREAT BEND - Maggie Eunice Broadfoot, 82, died Nov. 13, 2000, at Integrated Health Services in Great Bend.
She was born March 22, 1918, to Ruffas and Maggie (Hutson) Durham in Forgan, Okla.
Broadfoot spent the last three years in Great Bend after spending 36 years in Fargo, Okla.
She married Roy Broadfoot on March 19, 1935, in Liberal. He preceded her in death.
Broadfoot is survived by four sons, Karl Broadfoot of Liberal, Danny Broadfoot of Garden City, Ronnie Broadfoot of Belleville, Ill., and Troy Broadfoot of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Sandy Dayton of Great Bend and Nancy Elliott of Stillwater, Okla.; and 24 grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Fargo Cemetery
in Fargo, Okla., with the Rev. Olin Payton officiating. Arrangements are being made by the Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Woodward, Okla.
