Duane William Lewis
SYRACUSE - Duane William Lewis, 67, a longtime Syracuse resident before moving to Garden City in 1984, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
He was born Sept. 8, 1933, at Syracuse, the son of William "Bill" and Alta (Finkenbinder) Lewis. A farmer his entire life, he enjoyed farming and cars.
On Jan. 18, 1953, he married Vera Plunkett at Syracuse. She survives. He is also survived by a son, Larry Lewis, Englewood, Colo.; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Lewis, in 1972; and an infant brother.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. MST Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. William Fitzgerrel officiating. Prior to the service will be a flower card reading at 10:30 a.m. MST at the church. A family dinner will follow the memorial service.

Lydia K. Siebert
ULYSSES - Lydia K. Siebert, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
She was born July 15, 1910, in Beaver County, Okla., the daughter of John and Pauline (Karber) Neufeld.
On Sept. 23, 1928, she married John W. Siebert at Ulysses. She and her husband farmed. He died May 1, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a son, Menno Siebert; five brothers; and two sisters.
A homemaker, Mrs. Siebert had been a Ulysses resident since 1925. She was a charter member of Mennonite Brethren Church of Ulysses.
She is survived by two sons, Lester Siebert, Cobden, Ill., and Waldo Siebert, Overland Park; four daughters, Geneva Fast and Ruby Siebert, both of Ulysses, Mary Klaassen, Wichita, and Irene Isaac, Meade; a brother, Alvin Neufeld, Hillsboro; two sisters, Mary Palmer, Kansas City, Mo., and Elarsia Koop, Lawrence; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mennonite Brethren Church, Ulysses, with Ted Goertzen officiating. Burial will be in Golden Cemetery, Ulysses.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Siebert Scholarship Fund, in care of Mennonite Brethren Church of Ulysses.
Katie Beaver Bryant
Katie Beaver Bryant, 90, of Satanta died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
Bryant was born Feb. 28, 1910, in Beaver, County Okla., to Beverly and Mary (Seymour) Richardson.
She was a Satanta resident since 1929 and was a member of the United Methodist Church there. Bryant loved to bake for the holidays and spent her free time making candles, crocheting afghans and playing the piano.
She married David Bryant on Feb. 9, 1929, in Johnson, he died earlier.
Bryant is survived by six grandchildren, Kathy McGee, Ericka Rowton, Andy Crittendon, Steve Bryant, Larry Bryant and Tanya Staley; eight great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
One son, Darrell Bryant, one daughter, Kathryn Brown and 15 brothers and sisters died earlier.
Services will be Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Dudley Township Cemetery
in Satanta with the Rev. Larry Myers presiding.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Haskell County Funeral Home in Sublette.

Bobbie Ruth Nowlin Murrell
STILLWATER, Okla. - Bobbie Ruth Nowlin Murrell, 67, Stillwater, Okla., died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Stillwater Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, the Rev. Terry Tharp officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery
in Okeene, Okla., at 2 p.m. Monday.
Mrs. Murrell was born June 15, 1933, in Cogar, Okla., the daughter of Thomas W. and Georgia L. (Hensley) Nowlin. She attended and graduated from Seiling High School. She then attended business college in Oklahoma City.
On Sept. 15, 1952, she married Kenneth Murrell in Portales, N.M. He died Nov. 14, 1999.
After the couple's marriage, they moved to Stillwater, Okla., in 1953 where she was employed at C.R. Anthonys and later worked at Stillwater National Bank. In 1970, she began her career at the Oklahoma State University bursar's office, retiring in 1992 as assistant bursar. Upon retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively and enjoyed camping, but her greatest love was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Murrell was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Survivors include a son, Donnie G. Murrell of Garden City; a daughter, Connie Murrell Burns; three grandchildren.
Marcela Escarcega
LAKIN - Marcela Escarcega, 8, of Lakin, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born Aug. 7, 1992, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Jorge Quezada and Cecilia Rivero. Marcela came to Lakin with her parents from Albuquerque, N.M., in 1997. She was a second-grader at Lakin High School. She attended St. Anthony Catholic Church. Her hobbies were watching television, swimming and playing with her friends at school. She was preceded in death by her grandmother.
Survivors include her parents, of the home; one brother, Jorge Quezada Jr., of the home; a grandfather and several aunts and uncles.
Wake service was 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Rev. Mike Helms officiating. Burial was to be in Lakin Cemetery.

Aleyah Arguellez
ULYSSES - Vigil service for Aleyah Arguellez, infant daughter of Marivell Arguellez of Ulysses, will be 7 tonight at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Louis Hoang officiating. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
Aleyah died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital, Ulysses, shortly after her birth.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her grandparents, Irma Erives, Ulysses, and Alonso Erives, Silver City, N.M.; her great-grandparents, Genaro and Hela Arguellez, Brownfield, Texas; and an aunt. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Genaro Arguellez Jr.; her great-great-grandfather, Manuel Guerra; and her great-grandmother, Lydia Herrera.
Visitation hours are until 5 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses.
Frances Winifred Hamilton
Parish wake service for Frances Winifred Hamilton, 92, of Norton, was to be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Enfield Funeral Home, Norton. Funeral was to be 10 this morning at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Walsh officiating. Burial was to follow in Norton Cemetery.
Mrs. Hamilton died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at the Andbe Home in Norton.
She was born July 19, 1908, at Monmouth, Ill., the daughter of Albert and Mary Elizabeth (Weir) Dunbar. She attended Norton schools, graduated from Norton Community High School in 1926, and was a member of the National Honor Society. After high school, she attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, graduating in 1931 with a bachelor's degree in education.
Mrs. Hamilton had been employed by the Norton County Savings and Loan Association and the Norton County Abstract Co. In February 1951, she started working for the City of Norton as a bookkeeper, and in the spring of 1959 she became city clerk, retiring on Aug. 1, 1978.
She was a member of Norton BPW Club, American Association of University Women, J.J. Embroidery Club, Norton Federated Study Club, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and St. Francis Altar Society.
On Aug. 16, 1937, she married Raymond W. Hamilton. He preceded her in death as did a sister, Eva L. Kidder.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Hamilton, Garden City; and a niece.
