Warren C. Bruner
HEALY - Graveside service for Warren C. Bruner, 80, will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Healy Cemetery, with the Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock officiating. American Legion Post No. 190 of Dighton will conduct military rites.
Mr. Bruner died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus in Hays.
He was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Lane County, the son of Luther J. and Cora Viola (Painter) Bruner.
A lifetime Healy resident, he attended schools there. He then served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was stationed in northern Africa. After the service, he returned to Healy where he was a farmer and a U.S. Postal mail carrier. In his earlier years, he was also a partner in a domestic water well drilling business.
Mr. Bruner was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge, both at Garden City. His special interest was playing cards.
He is survived by a brother, Myron Bruner, Healy; two sisters, Beulah Reeves, Dodge City, and Cornelia Thon, Scott City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Homer Bruner, Leo Bruner and Howard Bruner; and a sister, Neva Bathurst.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton, and from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Healy. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.
Donald Dean Martin
LAKIN - Funeral for Donald Dean Martin, 64, of Dodge City, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls. Burial will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Martin died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000.
He was born March 20, 1936, in Chase County, and attended schools there and in Colorado.
A retired farmer and rancher, he owned and operated Double D Quarter Horses. He raised, trained and showed American Quarter Horses and was a longtime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dorothy (Duke) Martin; two daughters, Terry Garcia, Dodge City, and Donna Jones, Lakin; three sons, Randy and Brad, both of Great Bend, and Brian, Bucklin; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his mother, Marie Martin, Cottonwood Falls; a sister, Darlene Robertson, Moorhead, Minn.; and a brother, Harold Martin, San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his father, George H. Martin.
Friends may call at the funeral home prior to service time. Memorials are to be established by the family, in care of the funeral home.
Elizabeth "Beth" Groom
Funeral for Elizabeth "Beth" Groom, 96, of Quinter, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, with the Rev. Keith Funk officiating. Burial will be in Quinter Cemetery.
Miss Groom died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at Gove County Medical Center in Quinter.
She was born Oct. 4, 1904, in a sod house in Gove County, the daughter of Joshua Stevenson and May (Lynch) Groom. A graduate of Quinter High School, she earned a bachelor's degree in education from Fort Hays State University in 1958 and did post-graduate studies in Greeley, Colo.
Miss Groom had been a primary school teacher for 43 years, teaching in various school districts in southwest Kansas and retiring from Holcomb School District.
She was a member of the African Violet Society, the Rock Society and the Finney County Historical Society, all at Garden City, Fort Hays State University Alumni Association of Hays and the Kansas State Teachers Association.
Survivors include three nephews, Leon Groom and Stanley Groom, both of Quinter, and Daryl Groom, Salina; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Groom, Quinter; and three great-nieces. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Groom, Henry Groom and Ernest Groom; and a sister, Lucy Jones.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Quinter Senior Center, in care of the funeral home, 901 S. Main St., Quinter, KS 67752.
Lester W. "Bud" Rhodes
Lester W. "Bud" Rhodes, 73, of Meade, died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Minneola District Hospital.
He was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Meade County, the son of Noel J. and Naomi Esther (Mohler) Rhodes.
A lifetime resident of Meade, he was a retired CMS employee and was a farmer and rancher.
Mr. Rhodes was a member of the United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge, was active in the Meade Roping Club, belonged to the National Rifle Association, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
On Dec. 22, 1950, he married Koeta Kay Seal at Dodge City. She died Feb. 10, 1999. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Rhodes.
He is survived by a son, Kent Rhodes, Beaver, Okla.; a daughter, Rhonda Pritchard, Meade; three sisters, Nola Jean Ross, Garden City, Ruth Peoples, Many, La., and Mila LeValley, Bird City; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Meade, with the Rev. Chuck Mattix officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade. Memorials are suggested to the church or the World War II Memorial Fund, both in care of the mortuary, Box F, Meade, KS 67864.
Larry E. Repshire
DIGHTON - Funeral for Larry E. Repshire, 55, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Mike Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 190 of Dighton.
Mr. Repshire died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 27, 1944, at Dighton, the son of Elgin Ellsworth and Geraldine May (Spitsnaugle) Repshire. He attended Alamota Grade School and graduated from Dighton High School.
On March 26, 1972, he married Nancy Osborn at Dighton.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Repshire returned to Lane County. A farmer and stockman, he had been working most recently in the feeding department at Lane County Feeders. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and being with his grandsons.
He is survived by a daughter, Tammy Repshire, Dighton; a son, Lonnie Repshire, Salina; a brother, Ray Repshire, Newton; and two grandsons.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or First Christian Church, both in care of the funeral home.
Richard R. "Dick" Lang
Altar Society rosary for Richard R. "Dick" Lang, 78, was to be 3 p.m. today at Kimple Funeral Home, Ellinwood, with parish vigil at 7 tonight at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ellinwood. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. David Flagor officiating. Burial will be in Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery
in Ellinwood.
Mr. Lang died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at his home in Ellinwood.
He was born March 22, 1922, at Ness City, the son of Adam A. and Katherine (Meis) Lang.
Mr. Lang retired in 1987 as a production foreman with W.L. Hartman Oil Co., after 37 years of employment. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, American Legion and the VFW. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, during the Battle of the Bulge in the European Theatre.
On Aug. 9, 1947, he married Louise A. Erny at Hutchinson. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Donald V. Lang, Ellinwood, and Robert E. Lang, Piedmont, Okla.; two daughters, Barbara Chulufas, Harrisonville, Mo., and Laura Fickel, Garden City; two brothers, Alden Lang, Hutchinson, and Ernie Lang, Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters, Albertina Albracht, Tilden, Neb., Virginia Lindsey, Wichita, and Mildred Ensz, Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; three brothers, Paul, Herman and Arthur; and three sisters, Martina, Florence and Lora Jean.

Marie Niles
DIGHTON - Marie Niles, 94, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Smokey Hill Rehabilitation Center in Salina.
She was born Jan. 2, 1906, in Lane County, the daughter of Steve and Lou (Wheatcroft) Vanwey.
On Dec. 7, 1930, she married Bernard Niles in Dighton. He died Jan. 22, 1986.
Niles was a lifetime resident of Lane County. She taught school in Dighton, and along with her husband, operated the Niles Funeral Home in Dighton for many years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Dighton.
Survivors include: One niece, Anna Gering, Salina; one great-nephew, Jerry Gering, Salina.
Graveside services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Dighton Memorial Cemetery, the Rev. Mike Grogan officiating. Burial will be at Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton.
Memorials are suggested to the Smokey Hill Rehabilitation Center in care of Boomhower Funeral Home.
