Maria Luisa Acevedo
Rosary for Maria Luisa Acevedo, 75, of Garden City, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Liberal. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Henry Hildebrandt and Deacon Erasmo Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.
Mrs. Acevedo died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Jan. 2, 1925, at Zacatecas, Mexico, the daughter of David and Guadalupe (Arteaga) Bueno.
A Garden City resident since 1994, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
In 1937, she married Jose Acevedo at Zacatecas. He survives. She is also survived by six sons, Rafael Acevedo and Jose Acevedo, both of Liberal, Samuel Acevedo, California, Juan Acevedo, Heriberto Acevedo and Tomas Acevedo, all of Garden City; five daughters, Ofelia Villa and Kirina Gonzales, both of Baja, Mexico, Maria Mata, Chihuahua, Mexico, Olivia Jurado, Mexico City, and Yolanda Fierro, Garden City; two brothers, Manuel Bueno and David Bueno, both of Chihuahua; four sisters, Rosa Chavez, Marta Aguilar, Carmen Cantu and Refugia Aguilar, all of Chihuahua; 58 grandchildren; and 57 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, two sons and one daughter.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at the church.
Miller Mortuary, Liberal, is in charge of arrangements.
Melvin Martin "Hap" Silvey
SCOTT CITY - Funeral for Melvin Martin "Hap" Silvey, 88, will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Scott City, the Rev. John Warring officiating. Burial will follow at Scott County Cemetery.
Mr. Silvey died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born March 4, 1912, in Scott County, the son of Isom Martin Silvey and Stella Sybil Headley Silvey. Mr. Silvey was born and raised in Scott County and spent most of his life there as a horse trader and stockman.
On Aug. 15, 1934, Mr. Silvey married Virgie Marriott in Lamar, Colo. She survives.
Mr. Silvey is also survived by two sons, Larry Silvey and Jan Silvey, both of Scott City; two daughters, Lillian Farr of Stafford and Jeanne Cutler of Scott City; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
One brother, John Silvey, and two sisters, Minnie and Alice Silvey, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Price and Sons Funeral Home in Scott City.
Memorials are suggested to the Scott County Indoor Arena in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home.
Josephine Baros Saiz
HOLCOMB - Vigil service for Josephine Baros Saiz, 88, will be 7 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker as celebrant. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Saiz died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born March 19, 1912, at St. Augustine, N.M., the daughter of Serapio and Felipita (Luyan) Baros.
A Holcomb resident since 1945, moving from New Mexico, she was a domestic housekeeper and provided child care for area residents, including the Herb Clutter family. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, baking, music, her soap operas and her church work.
Mrs. Saiz was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She belonged to the church choir, was church lector and Communion minister and participated in the church outreach to the elderly.
On Jan. 19, 1929, she married Fidel Saiz at St. Augustine. He survives. She is also survived by a son, Benny Saiz, Vernal, Utah; six daughters, Rosie Miller and Fidelia Munoz, both of Wichita, Becky Kellogg, Liberal, Edwina Neese, Dora Saiz and Paula Herrell, all of Garden City; a brother, Salvadore Baros, and a sister, Abelina Encinias, both of Herford, Texas; 23 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Purdy Saiz and Isidoro Saiz; a brother; four sisters; and two grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 6 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, and from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Memorials to the church may be sent in care of the funeral home.
William A. Wasson
William A. Wasson, 83, of Sun City, Ariz., died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000.
He was born July 28, 1917, at Nixa, Mo.
Retired from farming in Garden City, he moved from Arkansas to Arizona in 1994. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a son, Richard; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be noon Saturday, Oct. 14 in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
The family suggests memorials be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
Menke Funeral Home, Sun City, is in charge of arrangements.
Janessa Rae Garcia
Janessa Rae Garcia, 4-month-old daughter of Richard K. Garcia Jr. and Elsa Ramos of Garden City, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born May 23, 2000, at Garden City.
In addition to her parents of the home, she is survived by three sisters, Lezlie Ann Garcia, Lessa Maree Garcia and Rosa Lynda Garcia, all of the home; her grandparents, Richard and Mary Garcia, and Vicente and Delia Ramos, all of Garden City; her great-grandparents, Antonio and Juanita Rodriguez, Garden City; and several aunts and uncles.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Friends may meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
Memorials to the Janessa Rae Garcia Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Raymond R. Randle
Funeral for Raymond R. Randle, 67, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Randle died today, Oct. 4, 2000, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Dec. 13, 1932, in Finney County, the son of Matt and Myrtle (Rhea) Randle. He graduated from Garden City High School and Garden City Junior College, and served in the National Guard from the mid-1950s through the mid-1960s.
A lifetime resident of Finney County, he worked for Santa Fe Trailways Freight until its closing in 1974. He also owned and managed numerous rental properties and was engaged in farming. He enjoyed auctions and collecting antiques.
He is survived by three sisters-in-law, Jessie Randle, Belfair, Wash., Betty Randle, Garden City, and Delma Young, Waldron, Ark.; four nephews, Gary Wayne Randle, Lonnie Matt Randle and Steve Randle, all of Garden City, and Matt "Skippy" Randle, Waldron; three nieces, Diane Henderson, Aurora, Colo., Betty Louise Pulkrabek and Linda Marie Hines, both of Garden City; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lonnie and Clifford.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Garden City Dialysis Center, in care of the funeral home.
Lisa M. William
Lisa M. William, 35, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita, after a sudden illness.
She was born June 11, 1965, at Garden City, the daughter of Harry J. and Doris A. Johnson. She graduated from Garden City High School.
A lifetime resident of Garden City, she had worked as a waitress for Time Out Sports Bar & Grill and most recently for the Garden City Plaza Inn Restaurant. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Garden City.
She is survived by a son, John "J.C." William, of the home; her parents, Garden City; two brothers, Larry Johnson, Garden City, and Kent Johnson, Tyrone, Okla.; and three sisters, Linda Farmer and Karen Dyer, both of Garden City, and Cheryl Johnson, Denver.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Garden City.
There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Lisa M. William Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home, 620 N. Main St.
