Marion Milton Blair
SATANTA - Marion Milton Blair, 78, Satanta, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center, Liberal.
He was a lifelong farmer in the area, a member of the Satanta American Legion Post No. 276 and the Elks Lodge, Liberal. A World War II veteran, Mr. Blair served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Blair was born Oct. 28, 1921, at Byers, the son of Milton Dewey and Pearl Gladys McAhren Blair. In 1925, he and his parents moved to Satanta from Pratt County.
He married Billie Bangs July 27, 1941, who preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Michael L. Blair, Satanta; a daughter, Judith L. Vanderhoaf, Knob Noster, Mo.; a brother, Dale Blair, Dodge City; two sisters, Shirley Lucas, Satanta, and Maxine Branam, Wichita; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are at the Haskell County Funeral Home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dudley Township Cemetery, Satanta. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Satanta American Legion Post No. 276, Satanta.
A memorial has been established for the Satanta Long Term Care Unit. Contributions may be left at the Shopping Stop True Value, Satanta, or mailed to Haskell County Funeral Home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
Porfirio M. Terrazas
Memorial services for Porfirio M. Terrazas, 58, and his two children, Ana, 5, and Cecar, 4, will be held at a later date in Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnard Funeral Home, Garden City.
The Deerfield residents died in a head-on collision Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, on U.S. Highway 50 near Holcomb. Highway patrol officials said the accident is still under investigation.
Mr. Terrazas was born Sept. 15, 1942, in Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico. He came to Garden City in 1988 and had worked for IBP since 1991. He enjoyed watching boxing and soccer and raising chickens and roosters.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Cantu; three sons, Juan Cantu, Luis Cantu and Carlos Cantu, all of the home; a daughter, Maria Luisa Cantu of Anthony, N.M.; his mother, Carmen Morales Terrazas of Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico; three sisters, Ana Terrazas, Garden City, Amelia Terrazas, Deerfield, Socorro Terrazas, Monterrey Nuevo Leon, Mexico; four brothers, Ramon Terrazas, Luis Terrazas, Julian Terrazas and Jose W. Terrazas, all of Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his father, Luis Terrazas, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services and burial will be held at a later date in Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico. Memorials are suggested to the Porfirio Terrazas Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City.
Ana Gabriel Terrazas
Ana Gabriel Terrazas, 5, was born March 3, 1995, in El Paso, Texas. She was a kindergartner at Deerfield Preschool and attended Asamblea Apostolica Church in Garden City.
Survivors include her mother, Maria Cantu; three brothers, Juan Cantu, Luis Cantu and Carlos Cantu, all of the home; and one sister, Maria Luisa Cantu, Anthony, N.M.; grandmothers Carmen Morales Terrazas, Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico, and Maria De Jesus Diaz Escobar, Durango, Mexico.
Funeral service and burial will be held at a later date in Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico. Memorials are suggested to the Ana Gabriel Terrazas Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Cecar Noe Terrazas
Cecar Noe Terrazas, 4, was born July 22, 1996, in Garden City. He attended the Deerfield Head Start program and the Asamblea Apostolica Church in Garden City.
Survivors include his mother, Maria Cantu; three brothers, Juan Cantu, Luis Cantu and Carlos Cantu, all of the home; a sister, Maria Luisa Cantu, Anthony, N.M.; and grandmothers Carmen Morales Terrazas, Saucillo Chihuahua, Mexico, and Maria De Jesus Diaz Escobar, Durango, Mexico.
Funeral service and burial will be held at a later date in Saucillo Chihuahua, Mexico. Memorials are suggested to the Cecar Noe Terrazas Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Jose R. Rodriguez
Funeral for Jose R. Rodriguez, 82, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery.
Mr. Rodriguez died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
He was born April 24, 1918, at Fort Stockton, Texas, to Jose and Agustina Reyes Rodriguez. Mr. Rodriguez grew up in Ballinger, Texas, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge he moved to Scott City then Holcomb, and eventually back to Dimmitt, Texas, in 1984. He worked as a sheep shearer, field worker and in maintenance for Brookover Ranch Feed Lot. He enjoyed music, reading and visiting with his grandchildren.
On May 19, 1941, Mr. Rodriguez married Antonia Castro Cruz at Ballinger, Texas. She died March 28, 1976.
He is survived by six sons, Joseph Rodriguez of Deerfield, Jesse Rodriguez of Garden City, Johnnie Rodriguez of Leoti, Jacinto Rodriguez of Deerfield, Pete Rodriguez of Dimmitt, Texas, and Julian Rodriguez of Dimmitt, Texas; two daughters, Mary Torrez of Dimmitt, Texas, and Janie Castillo of Silverton, Texas; one brother, Antonio Rodriguez of Carlsbad, Texas; and one sister, Chavela Martinez of Brady, Texas; and 56 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five sons, one daughter and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Memorials are suggested to the Jose Rodriguez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Jean Kriter
ULYSSES - Funeral for Jean Kriter, 72, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Roberts Cemetery
in Blackwell, Okla.
She died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Blackwell, Okla., the daughter of Charles H. and Wilma E. Bidwell Kriter. He was a Hugoton resident since 1916 and worked in construction as a general contractor.
She had been a Ulysses resident since 1950 and was office manager and accountant for Pioneer Electric Cooperative, Inc. until her 1991 retirement. She was the 1984 Grant County Co-Citizen of the Year and an active member of the Shelton Memorial Christian Church.
She is survived by on daughter, Billie Whiteman of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Charlene R. McAlister of Healdton, Okla.; one nephew, four nieces and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Kansas Christian Home Fellowship of John and the Shelton Memorial Christian Church Scholarship Fund, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses.
Tiny Dumcum
HUGOTON - Funeral for Tiny Dumcum, 87, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church, Hugoton, with the Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Hugoton Cemetery.
Mr. Dumcum died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Lakewood Heights in Wichita.
He was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Haviland, the son of Gainum and Ella Standley Dumcum. He was a Hugoton resident since 1916 and worked in construction as a general contractor.
On May 1, 1936, Dumcum married Marie Popenoy in Guymon, Okla. She died June 2, 1984.
He is survived by three sons, Jack Dumcum of Wichita, Bill Dumcum of St. Paul, Minn., and Mac Dumcum of Beausejour, Manitoba, Canada; one brother, Standley "Bill" Dumcum of Wichita; one sister, Beulah Carter of Hugoton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Norma Jean Smith
ULYSSES - Funeral for Norma Jean Smith, 77, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church of Ulysses with the Rev. Max Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in the Ulysses Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Western Prairie Home in Ulysses.
Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 6, 1922, the daughter of Herman E. and Maude Florence (Jones) Meyer in Garden City. She spent most of her life in Ulysses and was a teacher and a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, playing the piano and gardening. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Ulysses.
On Jan. 3, 1946, she married George Adrian Smith in Garden City. He died Nov. 22, 1991.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Ronnie A. Smith of Ulysses; a daughter, Linda Pearl Knitig of Ulysses; a sister, Arlene Barnes of Ulysses; and a grandson, Dakota Deselske.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Grant County Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses.
