James Tyler Eslick
ULYSSES - Funeral for James Tyler Eslick, 17, of Del Valle, Texas, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, Austin, Texas. Burial will be in Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery
in Pflugerville, Texas.
A former Ulysses resident, he died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Brackenridge Hospital, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was born April 12, 1983, at Liberal and had lived in Ulysses prior to moving to Austin in 1999. A senior at Del Valle High School, he was on the golf team.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Stephanie and Adolfo Hermosillo, Del Valle; his father and stepmother, Courtney and Darlene Eslick, Ulysses; a brother, Caleb Eslick, Del Valle; two sisters, Paige Eslick and Kyann Eslick, both of Ulysses; his grandparents, Cathy Sanchez, Richard and Donna Nordyke, Ann Papay and Jack Eslick; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Homer Sanchez; and an uncle.

George Walter Graham
George Walter Graham, 82, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at his home in Denver.
He was born Nov. 16, 1917, at old Santa Fe, the son of George L. and Edith (Nelson) Graham. A graduate of Deerfield High School, he was in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1936 to 1940, serving on the USS Colorado. From 1942 to 1945, he served in World War II as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
On Aug. 29, 1942, he married Norma Eileen Kraft. In 1952, they moved from their farm to Garden City, and then moved to Denver in 1957 where he became a journeyman diesel mechanic.
Mr. Graham was also a retired teacher at Denver Automotive and Diesel College, a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 9 and the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, and was a past commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps League.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Wanda Graham-Larsen, Denver; and a brother, Leonard Graham, Winslow, Ariz. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman, who died in infancy, and Lawrence Graham of Lakin.
A military memorial service was 11 a.m. Thursday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, with Senior Vice Commandant Norman Loop of the U.S. Marine Corp League officiating.

Vera E. Bowen
ULYSSES - Vera E. Bowen, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
She was born Nov. 21, 1912, at Spalding, Okla., the daughter of Luther and Victoria Matilda (Bellew) Thompson.
A Ulysses resident since 1954, she worked in the dietary department at Western Prairie Care Home and was a homemaker. She enjoyed activities at the Grant County Senior Center, was a member of the center's Kitchen Kuties Band and a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church in Ulysses.
In 1940, she married Henry Orr at Pampa, Texas. On July 23, 1946, she married Otis Bowen at Parsons. He preceded her in death as did a daughter, Rosetta Peterson; twin brothers, Ed Thompson and Orville Thompson; a brother, LeRoy Thompson; and a sister, Gertrude Young.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Orr and Jerry Frye, both of Cincinnati; a daughter, Sandra Maris, Ulysses; two stepdaughters, Mavis McDowell, Pampa, and Twila Arellano, Guymon, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Michael Holman officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Iris Lorea Blakesley Brollier
ULYSSES - Iris Lorea Blakesley Brollier, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
She was born July 8, 1908, at Ashland, the daughter of Edward Lee and Maude Elaine (Gattenby) Allmon.
A Ulysses resident since 1916, moving from Ashland, she was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ulysses, SEG Club and HDU Unit of Grant County, Rhythm Band, Kitchen Kuties, National Grange and Rebekah Lodge No. 685 of Ulysses, and a charter member of the Cimarron Grange of Grant County.
On March 27, 1929, she married William K. Blakesley at Ulysses. He died Sept. 29, 1957. In September 1967, she married David "Lon" Brollier at Ulysses. He died Feb. 6, 1989. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Robert Kenton Blakesley and Lloyd Keith Blakesley; two brothers, Robert Allmon and Jesse Allmon; an infant brother; two sisters, Odetta Kruger and Audell Duvall; an infant sister; and two grandsons.
She is survived by a son, Thane Blakesley, Ulysses; two daughters, Eunice Comer, Ulysses, and Judith Clifft, Stuart, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Barry Durkee officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Lawrence C. Halbleib
Lawrence C. Halbleib, 83, of Garden City, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Shawnee.
He was born Nov. 17, 1916, at Brownell, the son of Ignacious and Mary (Wishnuck) Halbleib. He attended grade school in Brownell before the family moved to Garden City, where he finished grade school and high school.
In 1939, he married Maxine Duvall at Colorado Springs, Colo. They lived in Garden City until moving in 1944 to Holly, Colo. They returned to Garden City in 1953.
A farmer, Mr. Halbleib was a member of First Christian Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, politics, sports, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Steve Halbleib, Shawnee; two daughters, Pat Wade, Lenexa, and Vicki Landaal, Larned; two brothers, Raymond Williams, Garden City, and Art Williams, Austin, Texas; a sister, Irene Wentling, Garden City; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gordon Halbleib; and a granddaughter.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Lawrence Halbleib Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Clarence L. Kash
LAKIN - Funeral for Clarence L. Kash, 90, was to be 2:30 this afternoon at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin, with the Rev. Warren Hett officiating. Burial was to be in Lakin Cemetery.
Mr. Kash died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.
He was born Oct. 7, 1910, in Marion County, the son of John and Florence (Kaniper) Kash. Moving to Kearny County when he was an infant, the family homesteaded near the Kearny/Grant county line. He attended Weber/Morningstar School until 1929 and later attended a business college in Dodge City for one year.
On Jan. 12, 1931, he married Viola Miller at Lakin. They moved to a farm 12 miles west of Lakin in 1933, living there until moving into Lakin in 1963.
Mr. Kash was a farmer and raised registered hereford cattle, and delivered mail on the North Star Route from 1963 until 1981. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge of Garden City.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Arnold Kash, Omaha, Neb., and Maurice Kash, Wellington; two brothers, Oscar Kash, Meridian, Idaho, and Marvin Kash, Lakin; a sister, Maybelle Cook, Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell Kash and Arthur Kash; and two sisters, Ruby Pebley and Edith Abrams.
Memorials are suggested to High Plains Retirement Village or Kearny County Home Health, both in care of the funeral home.
Ethel P. Tecklenburg
SCOTT CITY - Vigil prayer service for Ethel P. Tecklenburg, 89, will be 7 tonight at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City, with the Rev. David Kraus officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Mrs. Tecklenburg died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
She was born Jan. 3, 1911, in Ness County, the daughter of Edward J. and Sarah Ann (Butler) Ruffhead. When she was 6, the family moved to Ness City. She graduated from school in Ness City, where she worked as a telephone operator while attending high school.
After working as a linotype operator for a year at her brother's newspaper, she returned to Ness City and worked for the telephone company until moving to Garden City, where she began working as a chemist assistant at the Shallow Water Refinery.
While working at the refinery, she met Joseph A. Tecklenburg. They were married May 27, 1944, at Garden City. He died April 2, 1974, at Scott City. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis Michael; and a brother, Edward Ruffhead.
Mrs. Tecklenburg was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden and maintaining her home.
She is survived by a son, George Tecklenburg, Scott City; a daughter, Sara A. Goodman, Scott City; two nieces; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 7 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Park Lane Nursing Home or Scott County Library, both in care of the funeral home.
