Duane "Curly" Mommer
Duane "Curly" Mommer, 66, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at his home in Garden City.
He was born June 5, 1934, at Mobridge, S.D., the son of Vernie and Lillian (Segerstrom) Mommer. He attended rural schools and later attended Athal High School in Athal, S.D.
In 1952, he married Arlene Avery in South Dakota. They later moved to Salina. She died in 1962. He was also preceded in death by his father, an infant daughter and an infant grandson.
In 1964, he married Colleen Avery in South Dakota. They moved to Garden City in 1976. She survives.
Mr. Mommer worked for many years for the Finney County Road Department. He was a member of First Christian Church, served in the U.S. Navy, and enjoyed having coffee with his friends, traveling, watching car races, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Nick, Redfield, S.D., Thane, Greeley, Colo., and Byron, Garden City; two daughters, Michelle, McCook, Neb., and Sulita, Garden City; his mother, Redfield; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. Donald E. Carter officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
Frank Ray Medina Sr.
Vigil service for Frank Ray Medina Sr., 83, of 1302 W. Kansas Ave., will be 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mr. Medina died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Jan. 2, 1917, at Carrizozo, N.M., the son of Sisto and Maria (Ramirez) Medina. The family moved to Garden City when he was a young child.
On Aug. 22, 1940, he married Carmen A. Bernal at Garden City. She died April 29, 1985. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, two grandchildren, one brother and two sisters.
Mr. Medina worked for the Phillips 66 gas station for 10 years and later worked for 30 years at Garden City Sheet Metal Co. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Senior Center, and played lead guitar with Los Aces and the Margaret Brown Band. His hobbies were gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by three sons, Fred Medina Sr., Frank Medina Jr. and Tony Medina, all of Garden City; six daughters, Theresa Beltran, Virginia Rowland, Delores Martinez, Geraldine Garcia, Barbara Pacheco and Patricia Medina, all of Garden City; two brothers, Albert Sanchez, Marino Valley, Calif., and Frank Sanchez, Willmington, Calif.; nine sisters, Sally Vidaurri, Vista, Calif., Charlotte Gonzales and Lily Ferriera, both of Roswell, N.M., Gerty Acosta, Mary Amato and Ruth Vallejos, all of Long Beach, Calif., Anita Palomino, Marino Valley, Bea Edwards, Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Julia Rodgers, Willmington; 29 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Frank R. Medina Sr. Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Josephine Doris Guldner
SYRACUSE - Funeral for Josephine Doris Guldner, 98, will be 10:30 a.m. MST Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. William Fitzgerrel officiating. Preceding the funeral will be a flower card reading for the family at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Following the funeral will be a family dinner at the church. Graveside service be at 3:30 p.m. CST in Kismet Cemetery, Kismet.
Mrs. Guldner died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at her home in Syracuse.
She was born Aug. 5, 1902, at Cunningham, the daughter of Alvin and Carie (Miller) Simonson. The oldest of nine children, she is survived by her sister, Sadie Johnson of Newport Beach, Ore., and her brother, Donald Simonson, Tulsa, Okla.
She grew up on a farm near Kismet. In 1918, she married Edwin Guldner, who preceded her in death in 1976. She was a mother of five children: Irla, Aileen, Harold, Claude and Nellie. She has 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
The Guldners lived on farms near Kismet; Sublette; Las Vegas, N.M.; Canon City, Colo.; and Syracuse. They resided near or in Syracuse since 1927. Mrs. Guldner was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, The Literary Club of which she served as president, and The United Methodist Church.
She and her husband spent partial retirement in Evergreen, Colo., in the late 1940s where she helped found the First Presbyterian Church. Later they lived part-time in Mesa, Ariz., where she was a charter member of Grace Methodist Church. They returned to Syracuse in 1972 where she had lived since.
In addition to her brother and sister, she is survived by her five children: Irla Mays, who has lived and cared for her over the past 15 years, Aileen Swisher and Harold Guldner, both of Syracuse, Claude Guldner, of Mesa, and Nellie, Castle Rock, Colo.

Elizabeth "Lizzie" Knoll
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Knoll, 94, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born May 3, 1906, at St. Peter, the daughter of Joseph D. and Catherine (Knoll) Dreiling. She grew up in St. Peter and attended schools there.
On May 1, 1923, she married Pete Knoll at St. Peter. They moved to Garden City in March 1927. He died July 24, 1985. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A homemaker, Mrs. Knoll also worked for many years at St. Catherine Hospital and at Garden City Laundry. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and cooking, especially for weddings and funeral dinners. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, T.O.P.S., and Christian Mothers.
She is survived by two sons, Ed Knoll, Garden City, and Albert Knoll, Borger, Texas; a daughter, Odelia Wasinger-Stalter, Garden City; a brother, Charles Dreiling, Garden City; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Vigil service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by Daughters of Isabella rosary. Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. James E. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Edward Leroy Reid
Edward Leroy Reid, 41, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at his home in Emporia.
Born in Garden City on March 12, 1959, he was the son of Homer Lee and Janet (White) Reid.
Mr. Reid had worked as a dishwasher at Emporia State University.
He is survived by his mother, Janet Kee, Fort Scott; a sister, Rose Marie Reid, Scott City; and two brothers, Homer Lee Reid Jr., Arcadia, and George H. Reid, Greensburg.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hartford Christian Church, Hartford. Burial will follow in Hartford Cemetery.
Mr. Reid will lie in state from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Flint Hills, in care of Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home at Lebo.
Carolyn C. Rathbun
Funeral for Carolyn C. Rathbun, 90, will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Church, Garden City, with the Rev. David Sweley officiating. Private family burial will take place in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. Rathbun died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born Nov. 8, 1909, at Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Harlow J. and Jessie (Blackstone) Crissey. She grew up in Fredonia, N.Y., moved with her family to Europe and lived there for several years before the family returned to Fredonia when she was in high school. She graduated from Vassar College.
On Dec. 25, 1931, she married John Alden Rathbun at Fredonia. They lived in various places throughout the United States. A homemaker, Mrs. Rathbun especially enjoyed equestrian riding, reading and politics.
A Garden City resident since 1992, moving from East Aurora, N.Y., Mrs. Rathbun was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Garden City and in East Aurora, belonged to the East Aurora Equestrian Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Erie County Humane Society, Finney County Humane Society and various community organizations in New York State.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Guy, Garden City; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Eleanor Blackstone Rathbun and Katherine Rebecca Dacus; and two sisters, Dr. Eleanor Crissey and Rachel Crissey.
Visitation hours are from 5 to 8 tonight and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Church in Garden City or East Aurora, or the Finney County Humane Society, all in care of the funeral home.
