Orval D. Spencer
ULYSSES - Orval D. Spencer, 75, of Ulysses, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born Oct. 3, 1924, at Hopewell, the son of Samuel Clark and Estella Mae (Elliot) Spencer.
A Ulysses resident since 1947, he was a farmer. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Hopewell Friends Church.
On March 29, 1944, he married Lois Marie Stimatze at Hopewell. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Judy K. Howard, Boulder, Colo.; a son, Eugene Spencer, Ulysses; a brother, Norman Spencer, Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leland Spencer, Lester Spencer and Oliver Spencer; and a grandson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the Kansas Muscular Dystrophy Association, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Olen Wesley "Buddy" Cook
Olen Wesley "Buddy" Cook, 68, of Hatfield, Ark., died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Fort Smith, Ark.
A former Garden City resident, he was born Feb. 2, 1932, at Wickes, Ark., the son of Charlie Gerry and Viola E. (Hicks) Cook.
Mr. Cook was a plumber by profession. He had worked at H&P Oil Corp., Tulsa, Okla., for 15 years, and was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended Hatfield Assembly of God Church.
On June 7, 1952, he married Francis Salazar at El Reno, Okla. She survives. He is also survived by a son, John W. Cook, Fort Smith; two daughters, Debbie Lynn, Harlowton, Mont., and Carolynne Cook, Mena, Ark.; four brothers, William Cook, Harrison, Ark., David Cook, Knoxville, Tenn., Clovis Cook, Little Rock, Ark., and Gary Cook, Cordell, Okla.; three sisters, Alice Manes, of Harrison, Doyce Lunsford, Calumet, Okla., and Loretta Russell, Moore, Okla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at Hatfield Assembly of God Church, with Eddie Passmore officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Ruby Nielsen
Funeral for Ruby Nielsen, 83, of Hutchinson, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Hutchinson, with the Rev. David L. Sidebottom officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson.
Mrs. Nielsen died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Feb. 7, 1917, at May, Okla., the daughter of Raymond and Cora Belle (Courtwright) Jackson. After graduation from high school, she attended Baxter Springs Bible College.
A Hutchinson resident for 35 years, she was a homemaker and belonged to Pentecostal Holiness Church.
On Dec. 18, 1937, she married the Rev. Earl Nielsen at LaVerne, Okla. He died in October 1969. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Morris.
She is survived by a son, Robert Nielsen, Hutchinson; two daughters, Earlene Mitchell, Garden City, and Connie Edmonds, Loveland, Colo.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Nutter, Buffalo, Okla.
Visitation hours are until 9 tonight at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 tonight. Memorials are suggested to Garden Valley Retirement Village at Garden City, in care of the funeral home.
Wilma Violet Koehn
MONTEZUMA - Funeral for Wilma Violet Koehn, 67, of Montezuma, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Montezuma. Charles Schmidt, Franklin Butler and Kalvin Salsbury, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Montezuma Mennonite Cemetery.
Mrs. Koehn died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
She was born March 5, 1933, at Montezuma, the daughter of Ervin F. and Luella (Schmidt) Harms.
A lifetime resident of Montezuma, she was a homemaker and had cooked for several years at Montezuma Mennonite School. She was a member of Church Of God In Christ Mennonite.
On March 8, 1959, she married Marvin O. Koehn at Montezuma. He survives. Other survivors are three sons, Dale R. Koehn and Max Koehn, both of Montezuma, and Randy Koehn, Starbuck, Minn.; five daughters, Marilyn Classen, DeRidder, La., Diann Koehn, Nancy Koehn, Lorna Yost and Debra Koehn, all of Montezuma; her mother, Montezuma; six sisters, Virgie Buller, Olathe, Colo., Lenora Penner, Rich Hill, Mo., Doris Becker, of Canton, and Betty Classen, Marjorie Koehn and Beatrice Jantz, all of Montezuma; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and two infant sons, Terry and Gary.

Marie Etta Radigan
Funeral for Marie Etta Radigan, 88, of Yuba City, Calif., will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, Yuba City, with Wayne Vincent officiating. Burial will follow at Sutter (Calif.) Cemetery.
Mrs. Radigan died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000.
She was born in Sidney, Neb.
She and her husband, Adrian Dale Radigan, had lived in Yuba City for 21 years. They moved from Garden City in 1977, where they owned R.K. Motor Co. and Radigan's Swap Shop. They were avid fishermen, enjoyed camping, and were active in the Fishing Club in Garden City. A homemaker, Mrs. Radigan was a member of the Senior Citizens Center of Yuba City.
She is survived by a daughter, Millie Skaggs, Yuba City; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1982.

Richard L. "Rick" Patton
SCOTT CITY - Richard L. "Rick" Patton, 45, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev., from injuries suffered in an accident while scuba diving in Nevada.
He was born June 19, 1955, at Garden City, the son of F. Duwane and Irene A. (Baier) Patton.
A lifetime resident of Scott City, Mr. Patton was a farmer and a drug and alcohol counselor. He was a member of Tri State Coalition.
He is survived by a daughter, Amberdel Patton, Scott City; his parents, Scott City; and four brothers, Jerry Patton, Kansas City, Mo., Steven Patton and Robert Patton, both of Scott City, and Kenneth Patton, McPherson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Scott City, with the Rev. Michael L. McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Memorials are suggested to the Amber Patton Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.
Vickie Reneé Rich-Herring
A memorial service for Vickie Reneé Rich-Herring, 47, a former Garden City resident, will be 1 p.m. today in the flower garden at Finnup Park.
She died suddenly last weekend in Roy, Wash.
Born Nov. 7, 1952, at Garden City, she attended schools here, graduating in 1970. She was editor of the school paper, a member of Thesbians, and was involved in various other activities including being a Sunday School teacher and youth group leader of the Nazarene Church.
She is survived by her mother, Wilma Rich, Garden City; five sisters, Linda Rowley, Cindy Nicholes, Cheryl Frizzell and April Ortega, all of Garden City, and Joyce Aherns, Greensburg; and four brothers, John Rich, Garden City, Chris Rich, Nebraska, Pete Rich, Lawrence, and Mike Rich, Dodge City. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers.
Leonard Haase Jr.
Graveside service for Leonard Haase Jr., 53, of Show Low, Ariz., was Friday in National Memorial Cemetery
in Phoenix.
Mr. Haase died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, in Phoenix.
He was born Nov. 7, 1946, at Waverly, Mo., the son of Leonard Sr. and Louise Haase.
Mr. Haase was a longtime resident of Garden City, moving to Arizona in 1987. He worked in the construction business. A highly decorated Vietnam veteran, he earned the Silver Star among other medals.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; his daughters, Jennifer Perisek, Orange County, Calif., and Nicole Mutka, Glendale, Ariz.; his mother; and a sister, Mary.
