Duane Anthony Bieker
Funeral for Duane Anthony Bieker, 60, of Garden City, was to be 11 this morning at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel, Morehead, Ky., with the Rev. Tracy Fannin officiating. Burial was to follow in Brown Cemetery.
Mr. Bieker, an automobile mechanic, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at his home at 306 Bancroft Ave.
He was born July 29, 1939, at Garden City, the son of Anthony and Helen (Appelhans) Bieker.
Survivors include his mother, Garden City; two sons, David Eugene Bieker, Eaton, Ohio, and Joshua Befinley Bieker, Morehead; two daughters, Suzanne Russell and Teresa Rae Lambert, both of Morehead; two brothers, Stanley Bieker, Garden City, and Jerry Bieker, Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Diane Florer, York, Neb., and Janelle Michaels, Garden City; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Ronnie Bieker.
Elizabeth Rose 'Lizzie' Loewen
ULYSSES -- Funeral for Elizabeth Rose "Lizzie" Loewen, 94, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Ulysses Mennonite Brethren Church. Loyal Martin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
Mrs. Loewen died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
She was born June 14, 1906, near Hooker, Okla., the daughter of John and Maria (Wiebe) Siebert.
A Ulysses resident since 1944, she belonged to Ulysses Mennonite Brethren Church. Mrs. Loewen was a homemaker and enjoyed canning beets, embroidering and quilt making.
On Sept. 30, 1928, she married William H. Loewen at Hooker. He died in 1985. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Elmer F. Loewen, Wesley H. Loewen and Pete Loewen; four brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Alie A. Loewen, Ulysses, and Melville Loewen, Cripple Creek, Colo.; four daughters, Lovina Givan, San Antonio, Verna Lewis and Wanda Denning, both of Denver, and Agnes Kilgore, McMinnville, Ore.; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the church, the American Cancer Association or the American Heart Association, all in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Lucille Rowe
Lucille Rowe, 95, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born April 11, 1905, at Waterloo, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Prieser) Pickett.
In 1929, the family moved from Merna, Neb., to a farm northeast of Garden City and she taught school for several years in the rural Finney County area.
On Oct. 11, 1938, she married Harold Rowe at Hutchinson. They made their home in Garden City until he was transferred by Northern Natural Gas Co., to Beaver, Okla., in 1968. After his death on March 15, 2000, she returned to Garden City.
Mrs. Rowe was a member of St. Cabrini Catholic Church at Beaver, St. Cabrini's Altar Society, the Beaver Nursing Home Auxiliary and Beaver Historical Society.
She is survived by a sister, Clodaugh Strasser, and a sister-in-law, Marie Pickett, both of Garden City; seven nieces; and six nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Irene Williams; a brother, Wayne Pickett; and a nephew.
Rosary will be 4:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Cabrini Catholic Church, followed by funeral Mass at 5 p.m. with the Rev. James Ross officiating. Burial will be in the cemetery at Beaver.
Visitation hours are until 7 p.m. Friday and until 4 p.m. Saturday at Clark Funeral Home, Beaver. Memorials are suggested to the church or Beaver Memorial Hospital, both in care of the funeral home, 124 W. Second St., Beaver, OK 73932.
Ralph Clarence Smith
SUBLETTE -- Ralph Clarence Smith, 90, of Turpin, Okla., and formerly of Sublette, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born May 5, 1910, at Wichita, the son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Wiens) Smith.
On April 1, 1936, he married Reva Maude Clemmons at Liberal. They moved from Liberal to Sublette in 1974. She died Jan. 6, 1991. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lavern Schmidt and A.D. Schmidt; and two sisters, Leona Bartel and Edna Trotter.
A retired mechanic, Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and the 40 & 8 Club, both at Liberal; attended Southern Baptist Church at Sublette; and belonged to American Legion Post 80 at Liberal.
On May 29, 1994, he married Linda Plett at Sublette. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Waneen Clark, Satanta; two brothers, Harvey Schmidt and Ronald M. Schmidt, both of McPherson; a sister, Darlene English, Topanga, Calif.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Leo Plett, Turpin, and Vernon Plett, Vicksburg, Miss.; and nine stepgrandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Southern Baptist Church, Liberal, with the Rev. Keith Bryant officiating. Military graveside service will be conducted in Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Haskell County Funeral Home, Sublette. Memorials are suggested to First Southern Baptist Church of Liberal or the Gideons, both in care of the funeral home, Box 607, Sublette, KS 67877.
Mary Verdie Weber
Mary Verdie Weber, 93, of Fowler, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Minneola District Hospital.
She was born Dec. 18, 1906, at Minneola, the daughter of Arthur P. and Hazel (Sims) Rice.
A homemaker, she was a member of Fowler Christian Church and the Lakeview Homemakers Demonstration Unit, also at Fowler.
On Oct. 12, 1930, she married Louie L. Weber at Sublette. He died Nov. 18, 1973. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two sons, Charles L. Weber and Louie L. Weber Jr.
She is survived by two sons, Ken, Fowler, and John, Garden City; a daughter, Betty J. Stewart, Wamego; 14 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Fowler Cemetery. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Fowler Christian Church, with the Rev. Justin Weber officiating.
There will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Minneola District Hospital Employees Fund, in care of Fowler State Bank, P.O. Box 50, Fowler, KS 67844.

Rosaura Guevara
Rosaura Guevara, 66, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. A resident of El Salvador, she had been visiting her children here.
She was born Jan. 1, 1934, in El Salvador, the daughter of Antonio and Macaria (Ventura) Guevara. In 1955, she married Juan Guevara in El Salvador.
Mrs. Guevara's hobbies included raising pigs, cows and chickens; cooking; and coming to Garden City and Houston to visit her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five sons, Jose I. Guevara, Samuel Guevara and Lionel Guevara, all of Garden City, Feliciano Guevara and Saul Guevara, both of Houston; three daughters, Valvina Guevara and Rosa Guevara, both of Houston, and Maria Guevara, Garden City; three brothers and a sister, all from El Salvador; and 20 grandchildren.
Funeral and burial will take place later in El Salvador. Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Katherine 'Sissy' McVey
Funeral for Mary Katherine "Sissy" McVey, 62, of Dodge City, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Church of Christ, Dodge City, with Garrell Kidd officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Mrs. McVey died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla.
She was born Feb. 12, 1938, at Garden City, the daughter of Thola James and Alice Ellen (Belew) Fare. She attended schools in Garden City, graduating from Garden City High School.
On Jan. 15, 1956, she married Royce McVey at Raton, N.M. They later moved back to Garden City. She managed the Dart Inn in Cimarron for 13 years and the Dart Inn in Dodge City for two years. In 1983, she and her husband moved to Dodge City.
A homemaker, Mrs. McVey was a member of Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Denise Goertzen, Dodge City; three sons, Greg McVey, Mitchell, S.D., Jeff McVey, Dodge City, and Randy McVey, Montezuma; two sisters, Nancy Albers and Thola Rast, both of Garden City; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Emphysema Foundation, both in care of the funeral home.
