Charles E. Garey
Johnson CITY -- Charles E. Garey, 86, of Johnson City, died Thursday, July 13, 2000, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson City.
He was born March 10, 1914, in Stafford County, the son of Frank W. and Minnie R. (Little) Garey.
A resident of Stanton County since 1939, he farmed until his retirement in 1970. He was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene and served on the church board. He also served on the Johnson Co-op Board, Stanton County Library Board and the ASCS Board and was a past president of the Kansas Flying Farmers.
On March 10, 1937, he married Irene Lucas. She died Feb. 25, 1975. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
On Nov. 27, 1975, he married Virginia (Julian) Barstow. She survives. He is also survived by two stepsons, Neil Barstow, Corsicana, Texas, and Greg Barstow, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Melvin Garey, Johnson City; a sister, Helen Withall, Boca Raton, Fla.; and four stepgrandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 10 miles south of Big Bow, with the Rev. Tom Boese officiating. Burial will follow in Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson City.
Visitation hours are from 1 to 8 tonight and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson City. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson City, KS 67855.
Robert 'Bob' Bush
DIGHTON -- Funeral for Robert "Bob" Bush, 73, will be 7 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Revs. Mike Grogan and Kerry Grogan officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 190.
Mr. Bush died Friday, July 14, 2000, at Lane County Hospital in Dighton.
He was born Sept. 1, 1926, at Scott City, the son of Richard Ernest and Eva Clare (Owen) Bush. He attended Pleasant Valley School in Lane County and graduated from Dighton High School.
A lifelong farmer and stockman in Lane County, Mr. Bush was a member of First Christian Church of Dighton, American Legion Post No. 190 and the Kansas Livestock Association, and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an avid baseball and softball player, and enjoyed bowling, calf roping, golf and playing cribbage.
On June 26, 1947, he married Marletta Crosson at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, Lance Bush, Scott City, and Lex Bush, Dighton; a brother, Bert Bush, Laramie, Wyo.; three sisters, Estelene Smith and Esther Church, both of Dighton, and Ethel Dodge, Waverly, Neb.; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evelyn Clark; a brother, Lee Bush; and an infant brother.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the Lane County Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
Millie R. Thibault
Vigil service for Millie R. Thibault, 80, of Osborne, will be 7:30 tonight at St. Aloysius Church at Osborne. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Roger Hough officiating. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Osborne.
Mrs. Thibault died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at her son's home in Osborne.
She was born March 14, 1920, at Brawley, Calif. A resident of the Osborne area since 1947, she was a homemaker and belonged to St. Aloysius Catholic Church, St. Aloysius Altar Society and AFS, and served on the Osborne Library Board.
Survivors include six sons, Ronald Thibault and Stanley Thibault, both of Osborne, Alan Thibault, Kansas City, Mo., Danny Thibault, Toppenish, Wash., Dean Thibault, a former Garden City resident now living in Manhattan, and Duane Thibault, Salina; a daughter, Carole Koch, Webb City, Mo.; a brother, Edward Chalupnik, Chino, Calif.; three sisters, Elsie Schoneman, Helen Chalupnik and Gladys Gonzalez, all of Chino; and 18 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses F. Thibault, who died in April 1987, and a son Dale J. Thibault, who died in 1960.
Visitation hours are until 5:30 tonight at Clark-Gashaw Mortuary, Osborne, and from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Osborne Chapter of AFS or to Hospice Inc., both in care of the funeral home.
Dylan Gene Burback
Funeral for Dylan Gene Burback, the infant son of Tim Burback and Denise Dunnette of Garden City, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with Chaplain Shannon Borchert officiating. Private family burial will take place later.
Born Friday, July 14, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, he died that day at the hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Brandon Burback and Brandon Smith, both of the home, and Ryan Burback, Clearwater, Fla.; his grandparents, Eugene and Elaine Warke, New Richland, Minn., and LeRoy and Mary Burback, Garden City; and his great-grandparents, Oscar Warke, Hartland, Minn., and Helen and Victor Schneider, Kimball, Neb.
Robert L. Looney
ENSIGN -- Robert L. Looney, of Dodge City and formerly of Ensign, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at Western Plains Regional Hospital in Dodge City.
He was born Dec. 25, 1919, at Paris, Texas, the son of George Frank and Rosie Mae (Boyles) Looney.
A Dodge City resident since 1985, moving from Ensign, he was a taxi cab driver and maintenance engineer for First National Bank of Dodge City for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Dodge City.
On Dec. 17, 1942, he married Alice Ruby Bates at Cimarron. She died May 19, 1990. He was also preceded in death by several brothers.
He is survived by two sons, David, Meade, and Bruce, Dodge City; a daughter, Alicia Unruh, Chapman; three brothers, Harvey, Dodge City, Virgil, Eugene, Ore., and Leonard, Kinsley; two sisters, Nellie Gibbs, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Marydee Aldridge, Thornton, Colo.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with the Rev. E. Kim Engleking officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Center, in care of the funeral chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, KS 67801.
Arlene H. Ford
Former Garden City resident Arlene H. Ford, 88, of Wichita, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000.
A homemaker, she is survived by a son, James Ford, Manitou Springs, Colo.; two daughters, RaVae Ford, Columbia, Mo., and Mabel Braddy, Wichita; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at East Point Church of Christ, Wichita. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Liberty Township Cemetery, Nashville, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Hillside Funeral Home, Wichita.
Maxine Marie Stimatze
SYRACUSE -- Maxine Marie Stimatze, 72, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at the Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse.
She was born Aug. 16, 1927, at WaKeeney, the daughter of Elmer and Blanch (Pulver) Barclay. She attended school in WaKeeney.
A Syracuse resident for more than 20 years, she was a cook for more than 58 years for local restaurants, and had owned and operated the 66 Cafe in Syracuse. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and was a donor to the Lions Eye Bank.
She is survived by a son, Walter Stimatze, Syracuse; a daughter, Anita Baalman, Grinnell; a brother, Victor Barclay, Providence, R.I.; three stepchildren, Mary Benson, Illinois, Eugene Stimatze, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Howard Stimatze, address unknown; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Stimatze, who died March 8, 1994; her mother, in 1996; her father, in 1971; a son, John Stimatze, in 1979; a brother, Raymond Barclay, in 1995; a sister, Glenice Davies, in the 1970s; and a great-great-grandson in 1996.
Memorial service will be 9 a.m. MST Monday at the Presbyterian Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. Bob Goebel officiating.

Richard Perez
Richard Perez died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, at Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was the grandson of Eufelia Escalada, and the nephew of Margaret Escalada, both of Garden City.
Other survivors include three daughters, Toni Ferguson, Golden, Colo., Mary Perez, Cheyenne, Wyo., and Lanora Lee, Longmont, Colo.; a son, Ricky Perez, Longmont; and a brother, Don Perez, Arroya Grande, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Louise Conteras.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. July 28 at Andrews Caldwell Gibson Funeral Home in Castle Rock, Colo.
