Kenny 'K.K.' Highberger
Funeral for Kenny "K.K." Highberger, 79, of Garnett, was to be 10 this morning at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Garnett. His son, the Rev. Don Highberger, was to officiate. Burial was to follow in Holy Angels Cemetery, Garnett.
Mr. Highberger died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 1, 1920, at Westphalia, the son of Paul and Lydia Maud (Gifford) Nicklaus. He graduated from Allen County Community College at Iola.
A Garnett resident since 1982, he was the field superintendent for Cities Service Gas Co. While employed by the company, he worked in Colony; Garden City; Wichita; Miami, Okla.; Knob Noster, Mo.; and Lenexa for more than 10 years, retiring in July 1982.
Mr. Highberger was a longtime supporter of Maur Hill Prep School at Atchison. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, James H. Shields, Council No. 1368, 4th Degree; Holy Angels Catholic Church; and the Garnett Optimist Club, all at Garnett. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.
On Feb. 19, 1944, he married Caroline Dover at Westphalia. She survives. Other survivors are four sons, Ken Highberger, Rye, Colo., the Rev. Don Highberger, Spokane, Wash., Gary Highberger, Tulsa, Okla., and Steve Highberger, Stilwell; two brothers, Milton Highberger, Guymon, Okla., and Jude Highberger, Topeka; two sisters, Eleanor Matreci and Catherine Black, both of Wichita; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Highberger.

Josephine C. Strecker
SCOTT CITY -- Daughters of Isabella rosary for Josephine C. Strecker, 88, of Spearville, will be 4 p.m. today at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville. Vigil service will be 7 tonight at the church. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Robert A. Schremmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery
in rural Hodgeman County.
Mrs. Strecker died Friday, July 28, 2000, at Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore.
She was born March 16, 1912, at Wright, the daughter of John and Mary (Hartman) Lutz.
A Spearville resident since 1981, moving from St. Mary's in Hodgeman County, she was a homemaker. She belonged to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and the Altar Society, all at Spearville.
On Oct. 22, 1935, she married Henry Strecker at Wright. He survives. Other survivors are 10 sons, Junior Strecker, Scott City, Richard Strecker, Dodge City, Jerry Strecker, Fritch, Texas, LaVern Strecker, Independence, Bob Strecker, Colwich, Maurice Strecker, Moran, Norbert Strecker, Spearville, Joe Strecker, Minneola, John Strecker, Colby, and Mark Strecker, Kinsley; two brothers, Bill Lutz, Bristol, Colo., and Philip Lutz, Wright; two sisters, Emma Burke, Spearville, and Lucile Kitten, Dodge City; 31 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William Strecker; a brother, John Lutz; four sisters, Sister Mark, Sister Canisius, Sister Mary Jane and Catherine Knoeber; and a grandson.

Carol Louise Lee
ULYSSES -- Carol Louise Lee, 63, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at her home in Ulysses.
She was born July 16, 1937, at Pueblo, Colo., the daughter of Robert Forrest and Virginia (Armstrong) Jessup.
On Oct. 12, 1952, she married Chuck Lee Sr. at Las Animas, Colo. They moved from Las Animas to Ulysses in 1967. She and her husband enjoyed camping and fishing in the Colorado mountains. A homemaker, Mrs. Lee had a fish pond and enjoyed doing yard work, making homemade rolls, crocheting and giving many of her handcrafted gifts to friends and family. She attended the United Methodist Church in Las Animas.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, David Charles Lee Jr., Ulysses; a daughter, Desirae Taylor, Cheyenne Wells, Colo.; a brother, Robert Jessup, Palm Dale, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses, with the Rev. Sam Bynum officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday and from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested for the family or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home, 218 S. Main St., Ulysses, KS 67880.
Michael R. 'Big Mike' Munoz
Vigil service for Michael R. "Big Mike" Munoz, 59, will be 8 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City, followed by rosary. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Oreste Huerta officiating. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Garden City Area Veterans Honor Guard.
Mr. Munoz died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
He was born March 12, 1941, at Garden City, the son of Romaldo C. and Carmen (Beltran) Munoz. He attended schools here, graduating from Garden City High School and attending Garden City Community College.
After serving in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1959 to 1963, he returned to Garden City.
On Sept. 27, 1986, he married Robin Bell at Garden City. They moved to Sabattus, Maine, in 1986 and lived there until returning to Garden City in 1995.
Mr. Munoz worked as a farm hand for many years and also worked in management at Farmland Industries for more than 20 years. While living in Maine, he worked at B.I.W. Shipyard.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the American Legion, enjoyed old cars, playing pool and bowling, and also enjoyed playing, coaching and umpiring softball.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael Munoz, Wichita; three daughters, Michelle Guinn, Topeka, Monica Cornejo, Wichita, and Andrea Munoz, of the home; three brothers, John Garcia, Robert Munoz and Rocky Munoz, all of Garden City; five sisters, Guadalupe Morgan, Flint, Mich., Mary Ann Ortega and Laura Guebara, both of Garden City, Rachel Munoz, New Orleans, and Rose Ann Munoz, Kansas City; his stepmother, Rita Munoz, Garden City; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorials to the Michael Munoz Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home.
Albert Berry Scroggins
ULYSSES -- Funeral for Albert Berry Scroggins, 84, will be 10 a.m. Friday at College Street Baptist Church, Ulysses, with the Rev. Sam Bynum officiating. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.
Mr. Scroggins died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Ulysses, where he had been a resident since 1938.
He was born June 7, 1916, in Benton County, Ark., the son of Grandville Harrison and Ida May (Insco) Scroggins.
Mr. Scroggins had worked at Dekalb Seed, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed farming, fishing, traveling and helping with the gathering of clothing for the Indian Missions Project in South Dakota. He attended College Street Baptist Church in Ulysses.
On Dec. 28, 1937, he married Deris Lorene Crawshaw at Independence. She died June 10, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Iona Berger; a grandson; and a brother, Odell Scroggins.
He is survived by a son, Arthur Scroggins, Chicago; three daughters, Irene Hitchcock, Ulysses, Iva Hindman, Satanta, and Ilene Pierce, Las Cruces, N.M.; 17 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

Barbara Cummings-Stewart
Barbara Ann Cummings-Stewart, 58, a former area resident, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at her home in McPherson.
She was born March 26, 1942, at Greenfield, Ohio, the daughter of John H. and Helen (Barker) Groppenbacher.
A homemaker, she was a resident of McPherson since 1990 and had lived in other Kansas cities including Ulysses, Garden City and Hillsboro. She was a member of Grace Bible Church, Women's Aglow, T.O.P.S., Cancer Support Group and the Christian Women's Club, all at McPherson.
She is survived by three sons, Larry Cummings, McPherson, David Cummings, Blanco, Texas, and Bob Cummings, Wichita; a daughter, Linda Leach, Hutchinson; her parents and a sister, Jane Chambers, all of Hillsboro, Ohio; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Bible Church, McPherson, with the Rev. Richard Duerksen officiating. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.

W.B. 'Jerry' Brady Jr.
LAKIN -- Funeral for W.B. "Jerry" Brady Jr., 58, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin, with the Rev. Jeffrey Lee officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Mr. Brady died Monday, July 24, 2000, in Lakin.
He was born July 5, 1942, at Glendale, Ariz., the son of Woodrow Buster and Lois Lorraine (Garrison) Brady Sr. He attended school in various places, graduating from high school at Glendale before attending Arizona State University.
Mr. Brady worked in construction for many years in various places. In 1996, he moved to Lakin where he had been employed at Collingwood Grain Co. He enjoyed playing golf, watching sports and being with his grandchildren.
On June 7, 1963, he married Norma Jean Tartavoulle at Bay St. Louis, Miss. She died April 23, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his father; a daughter, Kerry Brady; and a sister, Joy Chadwick.
He is survived by two daughters, Tyla Fitzsimmons and Tyra Verdoorn, both of Lakin; two sons, Destin Brady and Jerry Brady, both of Bay St. Louis; a stepson, Frank Wheat, Bay St. Louis; his mother, Canutillo, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
