Ethel Arwilda Gettler
TRIBUNE -- Graveside service for Ethel Arwilda Gettler, 93, will be 10:30 a.m. MT Friday in Greeley County Cemetery, Tribune, with the Rev. Paul McNall officiating.
Mrs. Gettler died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.
She was born Dec. 25, 1906, in Adams County, Ohio, the daughter of Claude E. and Myria (Robinson) Martin.
A previous owner and operator of the grocery store in Tribune for 10 years, she later worked for Gooch's Grocery for more than 15 years. A resident of Tribune for most of her life, she had also lived in Garden City and Ohio. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Tribune.
On Oct. 7, 1922, she married Elmer Herman Gettler at Tribune. He died Aug. 14, 1985, at Ulysses. She was also preceded in death by a son.
She is survived by two sons, Bill Gettler, Ulysses, and Robert S. Simpson, San Gabriel, Calif.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Robert D. Fisher
Robert D. Fisher, 67, of Aurora, Colo., died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Aurora.
Born April 7, 1933, at Coolidge, he grew up in Syracuse.
Mr. Fisher served in the Korean War from 1948 to 1954. He married Doranna Pruett and they lived in Pueblo, Colo., from 1956 to 1972. He drove a truck for Rio Grande and worked at the Pueblo Police Department for four years before moving to Denver in 1972.
On Aug. 30, 1973, he and Virginia L. Ball were married at Denver. He worked at Brisson Trucking and RTD for 17 1/2 years retiring in 1992 after serving as RTD's bus driver instructor for 11 years.
Mr. Fisher was a member of the VFW at Pueblo for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling jokes.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, he is also survived by a daughter, Vicky Hunter, Garden City; a son, Rolla Fisher, Amarillo, Texas; three stepdaughters, Sherry McIntyre, Aurora, Malea Ellison, Denver, and Joyce Kincannon, Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Kay Ransonette, Garden City; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josie Tapscott.
Funeral and burial took place Tuesday at Fort Logan, Colo. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Metro Denver, in care of Moore Howard Aurora Chase Mortuary, 1095 Havana St., Aurora, CO 80010.
Thelma Elaine Appel
SCOTT CITY -- Vigil prayer service for Thelma Elaine Appel, 74, will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at Price & Sons Funeral Home, Scott City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery, Scott City.
Mrs. Appel died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
She was born July 27, 1925, at Healy, the daughter of Milo M. and Dorothy (Messick) Baxter.
A Scott City resident since 1945, moving from Littleton, Colo., she had been the bookkeeper for the News Chronicle. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella, worked with the Girl Scouts and the girls softball program, and was a published children's author.
On Jan. 5, 1944, she married Robert K. Appel at Salt Lake City. He died March 17, 1991, at Scott City. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Marian Wilken.
She is survived by three sons, Baxter Appel and Brian Appel, both of Scott City, and Nathan Appel, Dodge City; four daughters, Robyn Brady, Littleton, Melodee Ramey, May, Okla., Lark Speer and Denise Akers, both of Scott City; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Walter R. Weber
Funeral for Walter R. Weber, 81, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Community Congregational Church, Garden City, with Dr. R. Michael Lake officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.
Mr. Weber died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Nov. 12, 1918, at Lecoma, Mo., in Dent County, the son of Charles Raymond and Bessie Mae (Ragan) Weber. He grew up and attended school in Anadarko. On Dec. 6, 1941, he married Dorothy M. Webb at Anadarko, Okla.
A longtime resident, Mr. Weber was in the retail business on Main Street in downtown Garden City for 53 years. He previously worked for Davis 5 & 10 for a time.
He began his retail career in 1937 at Anadarko for the C.R. Anthony Co. Department Store. In 1944, he was transferred to the Salina store, serving as a clothing assistant, and later as a buyer and assistant manager. He was transferred to the downtown Garden City Anthony's store in 1947 as assistant manager and then served as store manager from 1950 to 1966.
On March 1, 1966, he and his wife bought the Town Shop where they remained a fixture for 34 years. During their years of business, Weber's Town Shop had several style shows featuring the latest ladies fashions of the times. He also presented many seminars and merchandise shows in the area over the years.
Mr. Weber was a longtime member of Garden City Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Merchants Association and Community Congregational Church. An avid golfer, he was also a member of Southwind Country Club. He was a founding member of the Arts Angels Patrons for the Garden City Recreation Arts Program and Community Theatre, and was a former member of the Noon Lions Club.
Mr. Weber enjoyed watching sports and especially enjoyed Oklahoma University football.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Douglas Weber and Kyle Weber, both of Garden City; and a brother, Orville Weber, Tulsa, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jim Weber.

Carol Lillian Skipton
DEERFIELD -- Funeral for Carol Lillian Skipton, 71, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Deerfield, with Darrell Rains officiating. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery.
Mrs. Skipton died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Dec. 26, 1928, at Detroit, the daughter of Ruby May Falska, and attended schools in Detroit.
A Deerfield resident since 1947, she was a certified nurse's aide and ward clerk at Kearny County Hospital for 23 years. She enjoyed her garden and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
On Nov. 7, 1945, she married Jesse O. Skipton Jr. at Belleville. He survives. Other survivors are two sons, Larry Skipton, Garden City, and Michael Skipton, Deerfield; two daughters, Sheri Francis, Scott City, and Tamara Hernandez, Menard, Texas; a sister, Marion LaGorio, Detroit; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother; a brother, Harold Falska; and a sister, Francis Poder.
Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association, in care of the funeral home.
John William Jury
LAKIN -- Funeral for John William Jury, 30, will be 4 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Lakin, with the Rev. David Bolz officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
Mr. Jury died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Lakin.
He was born Dec. 18, 1969, at Scott City, the son of Danny Ray and Joan Vonda (Brown) Jury. He grew up in Lakin, graduated from Lakin High School, and attended the Phoenix Institute of Technology for one year.
Mr. Jury formerly worked for a cable company and for Bird Construction. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lakin.
He is survived by his father, Pratt; a brother, Victor Chad Jury, Lakin; two sisters, Krissie S. Lennington and Kimmie S. Lennington, both of Lakin; his stepfather, Arnold L. Lennington, Lakin; a stepbrother, Richard R. Lennington, Goodland; a stepsister, Stephanie S. Bradshaw, Manchester, Tenn.; his grandparents, Rollo V. and Lola A. Brown, Kendall, and John W. and Alice E. Jury, Pratt; and his stepgrandparents, Lawrence and Ophelia Kitten, Goodland. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Vonda Lennington.
